Nintendo Wii: Plenty Of New And Exciting Legend Of Zelda Skyward Sword Information

The Legend of Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma has disclosed a whole host of Skyward Sword related information to American gaming publication Nintendo Power. The majority of the content posted could be considered spoilers, so if you don’t want to know too much about the game then I would suggest that you try and refrain from reading it.

– the game is in the final stages
– Miyamoto working on the final touches
– localization going to be underway soon
– worked hard to increase the variety and richness of the gameplay over the last year
– story is centered on the creation of the Master Sword
– Link sort-of forges it along the way
– Link and Zelda are great childhood friends in Skyloft
– Link must hunt down Zelda to save her from the land below Skyloft, which no one has visited before
– Zelda is in no way a princess in the traditional sense
– Zelda is both sweet but has another strong side to her
– Link will use Zelda’s harp to find something important
– playing the harp involves strums and the MotionPlus, and is based on the rhythm of strumming
– quite a few fully orchestrated songs, but not all
– the design choice with Lord Ghirahim was to make a villain opposite the style of Ganon
– there most likely is not a relationship between Ghirahim and Vaati
– Skyward Sword comes before Ocarina of Time
– the Triforce sort of takes on a different meaning and plays a different role in the stor
– Ganon will not appear in the game
– the guys at the bird race are part of a knight academy that Link is a part of
– these knights oversee the school, and [the people are] also his classmates
– there’s also a vast world above the clouds as well–little islands floating in the sky all over the place
– these places feature events and scenarios that play out
– the bird is used for travel and racing

  1. …Didn’t we know this already?
The forging of the Master Sword sounds like Minish Cap. I’ll bet there are dungeons (or similar) dedicated to finding components of the sword.
Zelda not being a Princess in the regular sense sounds like Wind Waker.

      1. She wasn’t a traditional (he didn’t say full fledged) princess in the senses that:
        A) she was a pirate
        B) she was a princess of a dead kingdom. A princess needs to be the daughter of a king or queen. A king or queen, by definition needs to rule over people. She’s arguably not the princess of Hyrule because Hyrule has no inhabitants.

    1. No in wind waker she was a reincarnation of the princess. In skyward sword there’s no princess period.

      1. There’s a IGN rewind clip that shows the main bad guy of SS referring to Zelda as a princess to be or similar (major paraphrase going on). Sounds like Tetra in the sense that her royal attributes weren’t awakened till later in the game.

  2. Sounds like WInd Waker all over again, though flying through the sky feels all the more awesome unlike sailing. In WW you could only go straight forward, left or right; in the sky, you can fly up, down, left, right, straight forward, backwards…this added dimension will sure play a role when it comes to exploration.

    1. The only bird in the world that can fly backwards is a humming bird.(and I doubt this bird can fly backward unless it goes really slow or something) The real benefit is you don’t have to change the wind to change direction.

  3. Generic Internet User

I’m kinda worried about the harp and using the motionplus to use it

hopefully it will be easy to use

  4. I don’t really like Ghirahim’s character design atm. He just looks like a gay version of Vaati, who looked pretty bad-ass.

Minish Cap was the origin of Link’s hat – Skyward Sword will be the origin of the Master Sword. Love it :)

  5. I kind of figured that Ganon wouldn’t appear in this. Technically he wasn’t born yet unless this takes place just a few years before OoT which would not really make since. The only way he could have appeared is if there are multiple Ganons in the Zelda universe.

    1. I believe that you are confusing Ganon and Ganondorf. Those are two separate entities. Ganondorf is the person who was originally in OoT (and also showed up in Twilight Princess and Windwaker) while Ganon is the giant evil pig monster (or whatever) that turns out to be the evil thing in most of the old LoZ games. I find it interesting that recently they have been using villians other than Ganon/dorf. I for one thought that we would learn the origins of Ganon in this one, but I guess not.

  6. I don’t get why people are comparing this to Wind Waker. It doesn’t sound like it to me. As for Zelda, supposedly, she’s not a princess this time around. The game is called ‘The Legend of Zelda,’ but that doesn’t mean Zelda has to be a princess; it’s just how she’s been portrayed over the years. I’m drooling all over this.

  7. – Skyward Sword comes before Ocarina of Time

@_@ Argh! So confused with these games being chronologically ordered.

    1. The thing that I don’t understand is that if this game comes before OOT, why is that Link is at least a teenager in this game? OOT starts with Link as a child. This really frosts my nuts…..

      1. The Link in this game is a separate Link from OoT. In most of the games it is a different Link as the main character. There are some games that use the “same” Link as a pervious game. (Ex. Ocarina of Time and Majoras Mask, A Link to the Past and Link’s Awakening, WInd Waker and Phantom Hourglass)

        1. A different Link? That would mean a different Gannon, a different Zelda in all of these games…….althought that would explain why Zelda isn’t a princess in THIS game….just weird.

      2. It’s more like a reincarnation of the same soul (or technically OoT Link is a reincarnation of SS Link). That’s pretty much a big part of the Zelda story, how could you miss that?

  8. Haha, every time I see ‘spoiler alert’ I rush to read on. I so can’t for this, it’s going to be awesome.
Link should wield a massive blacksmith hammer at the start until he finally crafts the Master Sword. Lol.
I don’t acually know too much more then the basic concept of the Zelda games story… Could it be possible to have a future game set at the end of the timeline where Link and Zelda marry? Is that possible? ‘Prince Link’, wicked.

  9. Not all songs are orchestrated? Aww……. but I still am excited as hell for this game!!! Can’t wait :)

  10. The thing I’m most excited to find out is the forging of the master sword. How? And was it really forged by link himself? EPIC!!! That’s like saying link is the master, it only answers to him cuz he made it.

  12. So technically Skyloft, (and/or the floating islands above Skyloft) are located exactly where the great sea of The Wind Waker is located. It’d be cool to see some sort of representation of that.

  13. I’m not overly fond of Ghirahim, so I’m kinda disappointed that there’s no Ganon or Vaati. I think Zant’s charter design was pretty cool, so I’d have been okay if he had just been the main antagonist in Twilight Princess. I wish they’d saved Ganon for this one! :(
