Nintendo: Zelda Producer Would Absolutely Love To Make A Zelda Film

The Legend of Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma would absolutely love to make a Zelda film if he had an unlimited budget. Aonuma told Nintendo Power that it is something that he has always dreamed of doing. Do you think a Zelda movie would be a good idea given how recent video game adaptations have done?

“I always thought it would be really cool to have a real Zelda movie, something really grand and sweeping”.

“I have neither the time nor the wherewithal for all that and even if I did have the money to make such a movie, I don’t know if it would turn out well”.

“How cool it would be if something like that would happen sometime in the future.”

    1. ok your retarded. for 2 reasons. one u assume its going to be bad because of the videogame movies that were not ” WERE NOT” directed by the developers. If nintendo did thier own movie by them and not some random douche bag it would probally turn out good. 2 because u made that assumption you don;t even se the possability of a videogame movie actually being done right.

    2. I agree that a big budget Zelda movie could indeed turn for the worst, BUT I’ve seen some pretty decent fan interpretations. I have seen two so far which have been plenty decent…the names at the moment miss me though…they’re online somewhere.

      1. I have to say, There is a movie already, but I’m guessing it’s most likely a small fan movie, though there are real actors in the movie (The Hero Of Time). And If you really think about, a massive group of people in Nintendo can achieve way more than IGN did as an april fools ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBCzkz3gHb8 ).
It all just depends on the will, the actors and the budget. If people like @Tyrel would keep on believing it will turn out bad, it will then.

  1. Computer animated movie would probably turn out better than live action, but live action would probably be more badass if done right.

Then there’s the issue of Link talking, that’d be weird.

      1. loool who knows? If this ever gets done, there’s actually a chance of that line being put there as a joke.

Remember “I am the juggernaut bitch!” line?

        yeah everything is possible lol

    1. true, true, true, it depends of they can make animated to real life movie but badass hell, they could if NINTENDO can or maybe they know already, examples, like some batman movie or episode was animated good, and the realistic movies of it was awesome as well, also spiderman has animated movies that was good and realistic movie that was terrific great, and also dragon ball z but oh boy!!!! they sure made a mistake on that one a little too fast before thinking about putting it on theaters or even out at all, i for one do not like it at all when dragon ball z came out in theaters. it made me that night, have to watch the whole dragon ball z animated episodes just to get over with the horrible dragon ball z they made in real life. Also i do know that NINTENDO will make a good movie out of THE LEGEND OF ZELDA but one they need to do first is start of with a really good animated episodes or movie for the legend of zelda because literally theirs none at all, which i think it will be kinda of to make one for now unless they start with a animated series of “THE LEGEND OF ZELDA”. Will this is one animated series of THE LEGEND OF ZELDA that i seen, but that graphic and etc is way, way, way’s back in the old days animated that won’t intrigues people at all. http://www.google.com/imgres?q=the+legend+of+zelda+episodes&num=10&um=1&hl=en&biw=1366&bih=667&tbm=isch&tbnid=03p0TUjZIgnM5M:&imgrefurl=http://videoonclick.com/Cartoons/showDtls.php%3Fid%3D16&docid=xrg4e_3ffd9_wM&imgurl=http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/2/21/LOZAnimatedTitleScreen.jpg/250px-LOZAnimatedTitleScreen.jpg&w=250&h=188&ei=UwclULv6C4bjqgGK1IDQCQ&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=239&vpy=189&dur=15&hovh=150&hovw=200&tx=130&ty=70&sig=110490576765896988035&sqi=2&page=1&tbnh=150&tbnw=200&start=0&ndsp=18&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:0,i:72

Also why they stop advancing the qualities or work with this anymore and just stop making it?
i don’t like it how they made it really corning and kinda like with a ?????

  2. I would love to see a movie based on ocarina of time, windwaker, or twilight princess. One of each would be perfect

    1. I think the main problem Nintendo are having is desciding how to put the Atmosphere that the game had, into the movie. Imagine if they made a movide for Ocarina of Time. They would probably have to make a video for each indivdiual temple. It would be like Lord of The Rings. That’s what I think anyways. Who knows that Nintendo are really thinking.

      1. I agree with Shaun no more less. And the Windwaker would be way too far fetched as to fit in the story of the Hero of Time. I would ask for a mix up of the story of the hero of time and a setting of Twilight Princess. And cutting out temples are just waste. But how about if they went after the manga? I think that would be just a perfect Idea of Ocarina of Time Manga!

  3. GOOD GOD!! That would be amazing! I would possibly explode if they made a Zelda movie.
Even a Metroid movie would be pretty cool, but that’s another story.

  4. Like Pokemon, it should be balanced by already-existing TV series, otherwise the Zelda movie would be forgettable. (Same applies to Mario. Still hopefully waiting for that day.)

  5. It seems long overdue. But at the same time, I think a Zelda movie released in the mid or early 2000’s would’ve looked cheesy…

  6. I think it’ll be awkward making Zelda into a movie one of the reasons being Link’s silent nature and might be a disappointment. But if there’s some way to pull it off, it would be AWWEESOMMEE

  7. If there is going to be a movie, it should be developed by Weta Workshop or the team that brought us the Harry Potter films… Americanize it and you kill it.

  8. YES YES YES!!!!! It’s awesome to know that Eiji has plans in mind to make a Zelda movie, it would be awesome!!!!! I hope this happens in a not so far away future, but of course, in the way he said it, with an unlimited or big budget….

  9. This makes me realize how little Nintendo has done to milk their franchises. I applaud them. They could’ve released tons of movies by now that fans would’ve easily payed to see, yet they didn’t

    1. Movies so complicated to turn out so bad with the technology they have now? They were making a HALO movie, but they had to stop it due to the high budget.
and it would just be a pity really to make a movie. it’s taken 3 years for Shigeru Miyamoto to make the best game in the world (ocarina of Time – according to many webpages such as http://www.gamerankings.com). I think it would have to take them yet 6 years to make a movie to role in the big money they’re looking for now.

  10. The game isn’t even out yet, but I already want them to do a Skyward Sword film with the same art style and fluid animation. Kind of like if Disney animators made a Zelda film.

As for the no talking, Link grunts and makes a few little noises. Wall-E only knew how to say his name and Eva’s name. Wall-E rocked!

  11. I don’t ever want there to be a LoZ movie, but I always thought Liv Tyler would be such a perfect Princess Zelda, especially her Twilight Princess incarnation

  12. Well, it’s too risky to make a Zelda film. And I would prefer an animated film than live-action. But of course I’d like to watch a great Zelda film, I wonder if it should be based on a game, then which one, or an all new adventure….

  13. The only way I see this becoming a live film is if they made like The Lord of the Rings or something like that. Then it would just become overshadowed by those movies. There are so many things that can go wrong with this because it’s includes Elves, magic, swords, giant beasts, etc. If it was CG, then maybe. I’d rather want an anime. Not a cartoon like the 90’s, but an actual anime with good voice actors; similar to The Legend of the Legendary Heroes or Chrome Shelled Regios. Something where Link and Zelda are childhood friends and the world they live in is in danger or something similar to Skyward Sword. They could even do multiple seasons if they give the series to a proper studio. I would love a CE of the series with a fancy box.

  14. If they make it similar to Skyward Sword in terms of art style and fluid animation, I’d be all for it! Maybe make Skyward Sword the movie (it is a prequel to the most beloved Zelda game in history by many). It would show what “started it all”.

As for the no talking part, Wall-E only knew how to say his name, Eva’s name, and how to grunt/scream. If they make the movie more about the emotions and movements of the characters than the dialog alone, there should be no problem. However, that probably takes a lot of skill to do.

Also, other characters can still talk amongst themselves (also like Wall-E).

  15. I remember the 1 April Zelda movie mock-up from several years ago.

I dont think a Zelda movie will be created anytime soon, its probably going to cost a lot more then it will benefit Nintendo in profits.

    1. that’s exactly what came to mind when I read this post. it was by ign as an April fools joke, but that trailer looked awesome and would be great if it was a full movie in that style :)

      1. If it took IGN that short time of a year to make a 2 minutes long april fools joke, I think nintendo would be able to make a splendid movie. yet too risky.

  16. HELL NO! Please, no Zelda movie, or any Nintendo character movie for that matter.
All the video game and comic book movies are junk and painful to watch. Once hollywood gets their paws into it then it’s over, the appeal of the franchise is then tarnished.
The only way that it would work is if made like Spirited Away or something like that. Definately no well known actors or voices.

    1. So true, Hollywood would probably use Beiber and Gomez as Link and Zelda, for Nagi they’ll use Seth Rogan. lol
      Spirited Away FTW.

      1. It depends if the directors have full rights. If they don’t then that’s good cuz then Nintendo can tell them Wats up

  17. A: Don’t make it like wind waker/ phantom hourglass/ spirit tracks
B: Don’t make it live action or it might turn up like that god awful super mario bros movie

  18. If they do make one, I think they would base it on the Link to the Past storyline. The other game’s plots would be too hard to condense into 2 hours. They would barely get away with it in LttP anyway.

  19. The only negatives I see about this are links voice and rights to the movie. I say DO NOT give full rights over to the movie producer. They will massacre the Zelda franchise. Other then that, I say go for it and we should probably demo it and get a say if its good or not.

  20. no, see they don’t do it based of a game, they do a new storyline that won’t be tied into any of the games.

  21. It would be nice to see a movie with those Wii U level CG graphics if they were to make one. But since voices have always been a delicate issue it shoots the idea dead unless they were to attempt a subtitled film but that opens up worlds more complications… an official product would need to match the already built up delicate stucture and so I would think it’d be too much of a risk for Nintendo…. though any official film would be certainly interesting :)

  22. I would really LOVE it, if only if they hire a strong director like Steven Spieldberg or James Cameron.

    1. I say Peter Jackson just because we know he has an overly acute attention to details (watch TLOTR EE extras).

  25. Well, I personaly would love a live action Zelda movie. But that only depends on the director. I’ve been looking up info on a possible Zelda movie. And somewhere i’ve read that Guillermo del Toro is very very interested in possiblity of directing a Zelda movie. You would know him for directing movies like “Pan’s Labryth” or “Hellboy 1&2”. He also creates all of the scenery, landscapes and character/creature designs for the movies he directs. And if you like any of those movies (especialy Pan’s Labryth, Hellboy is kinda meh. But the crature designs are amazing) then you will understand how amazing of a movie he would make Zelda. I probably wouldn’t have him do the combat scenes though. But he could be the main director over all, and it will be beast. Who. Agrees???

  26. I would hate to see a serious live action Zelda film or an animated film. I would love to see a live action Zelda film that is playful with the topic and kinda perodies Zelda. Something kinda like the Scott Pilgrim, Edgar Wright style. Kinda like the “Legend of Neil” flavor.

  27. It would probably be corny beyond beleif, but id still be first in line to see it! No live action though, that’d be weird. It would look nice if it was like the Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children movie. The people look real, but arent.

  28. I think if a movie were done. It should be done in cg and not live action. Keeping it cg with its original colors would keep the spirit of the game. Not only would it attract children, but parents of the children who have played the games would be even more excited. I guarrantee this route would make tons of money. Use the ocarina of time story.

  29. CG or live action would be good. Don’t use preexisting bosses though, besides Ganon/dork(f). If you use others, people will think: That boss wasn’t that hard/easy. Create maybe a diiferent storyline, maybe one where Link has a voice and we learn why he lost his voice. Main antagonist should be Fierce Deity and Sheik isn’t Zelda.

  30. Yes I do think it would be a great idea, but only if it were animated. Putting real people into it would ruin it. It would have to look cartoonish. Almost like the a balance between the windwaker and skyward sword.

  31. No Disney. Seriously wake up people. Disney ruined Prince of Persia yet it was perfectly fine as a video game. Zelda is a story fit for a videogame not a movie. Seriously.

Nintendo wont be selling the rights, Nintendo actually doesn’t want Hollywood to touch their “children”. A movie can easily rip the franchise to shreds and new comers will never wang to give a Zelda game a chance becauae thr movie Sucked. Anouma said he and Nintendo would make it (and Im sure they would in their animation dept that they opened up in Tokyo a few years ago). They wouldnt sell the rights to it.

You guys are getting way too excited without even reading the article:

“I have neither the time nor the wherewithal for all that and even if I did have the money to make such a movie, I don’t know if it would turn out well”.

Even if he did have the time or money to do it, he doesn’t know if it would even be good. So they won’t risk it.

People complain about the games as it is, more will complain that the movie sucked. There goes all of that time and money. It’s better to stick with the games. Zelda was a game and it should stay as one. Why must you ask everything to be made into a movie? I get more enjoyment playing the games for hours upon hours.

They dont want voice acting for the games, so that already prevents a movie from happening.

And for the love of god, keep live action away from it. The IGN trailer was nice but Link looked old and not like Link. CG is the only way. But the best way is to not make a movie at all and just keep The Legend of Zelda series a videogame.

  32. They should make a movie on OoT but if you read the manga book it should be like that then you don’t have to do every temple, the temples were meant for the game to be longer and more exciting, in the book it is shorter and only has a few scenes in the temples. There is only one problem; Link may have to talk!

    1. Yes. I agree it would be a challenge to find the right voice for Link, but If you’ve played Path of radiance, In the scene where Ike is sparring his father, he sounds kind of like link should sound like. Overall, I hope nintendo makes a Zelda movie with just the right actors/voices.

  33. YESSSSS!!!!! I would love that!! i completely agree with a live action Legend of Zelda movie. i would watch it over and over agian!

  34. Any one who says this is not a good idea for a movie is obviously a demon or is to stupid to even know how to take a breath because ever since i first saw a zelda game which was when i was two i have always hoped that they would reales a movie of it.

  35. If Eiji Aonuma ever made a Zelda movie, it would have to be something crazy. Something like he and Miyamoto do on EVERY game; something the player would never expect.

If there ever was a Zelda movie I would expect it to be something dark, devious, with malevolent forces beyond ones imagination. I mean me, myself I have had dreams of a Zelda movie for years, I mean legit dreams, not day dreaming. I played the movie in my head.

    It would be amazing

would be nice if they let Disney make a movie about starfox! Miyamoto said he loves disney. and many of their games were inspired by movies of disney, the mushroom that makes Mario grow from alice in wonderland. the Kokiri who were inspired by Peter Pan. if they made a movie about Fox McCloud, I think it would be cool to see him drawn in the same way that they drew robin hood! how about a movie about zelda …… two words …. peter jackson … and of course everything must be supervised by nintendo, while Miyamoto was the creative consultant, then tell me what you think.

  37. If they make a zelda movie first of all it shouldn’t have so many video game elements (for ex: pot smashing/cutting grass for rupees.) it would then not be taken as seriously. Second, have a story with multiple climaxes to to make it more interesting, also they probably shouldn’t make one based off a game. Instead they should make a whole new story from scratch or make one based off of the original link and the goddess Hylia (before skyward sword). And I don’t really see why making link talk would be a problem, the reason why he doesn’t talk in games is because YOU ARE LINK. It wouldn’t give the player the hero feel if link would talk. But then again this is just my opinion…
