Earlier today I reported that Amazon has temporarily discontinued sales of the Cosmo Black Nintendo 3DS. The product was highlighted by a ‘item under review’ message. Thankfully a member of Neogaf contacted an Amazon representative to find out why they have temporarily discontinued the product. Here’s the answer he was given:
The reason why this is under a review
The flip-screen is loose when its opened, please inform them that Nintendo has confirmed as long as the upper screen locks into place, the unit is within Nintendo’s design specification. Customers can call 1-800-255-3700
the top screen of my 3DS wobbles. solution….buy the legend of zelda crystal armor from gamestop.
My review unit also has wobbly top screen. It’s not too bad but it’s a little annoying nonetheless.
Mine also has it, and I bought mine months after launch. I think it’s just the way the 3DS is built.
Yeah, it’s not a huge concern. It’s interesting that other people are experiencing the same problems with their 3DS consoles though.
I love the 3DS, but it does have quite a few design flaws. My upper screen sometimes switches to inverted colors, to fix it I have to press really hard on the side of the screen. It’s weird.
The inverted color problem you have is not normal. You should get it fixed…
My 3DS’ screen colours sometimes go weird when I’m using the camera. It’s only with one of the cameras though (either the left or the right one, not both because I can only see it with one eye) and it goes all green. I have to turn off the 3DS and turn it on again for it to be fixed.

my screens wobbly too can i turn it in for a new one?
I’m not entirely sure at this point, though it seems you might be able to
get the Zelda Crystal case, gives it a lot more support
I have the aqua blue 3DS and the top screen wobbles a little, but it doesn’t interfere with gameplay, so it’s not a big deal to me..
shoulder buttons are very bad and have a lot of problems in every handheld console i have from nintendo
GBA SP, DS, DS Lite, 3DS
Told ya. Then again, is this all there is to it? I mean, sure the top screen feels a little loose, but I never thought much of it since it locks when it’s open and it didn’t fall off. Currently I don’t have that problem anymore since I bought that The Legend of Zelda armor case and now it stays there and it doesn’t move at all. Plus, the case looks pretty nice.
and yes my top screen wobbles too
nintendo.. y?
My DS Lite’s screen’s hinge broke and it’s useless now. Hope this doesn’t happen with my 3DS.
Same here. I have to hold the top screen up with my fingers while I play.
Buying one of these solved all my 3DS wobble problems. (Not that they were bad)

just like to point out that the color is COSMOS black, not cosmo black.
Thanks. I originally wrote Cosmos and changed to to Cosmo for some bizarre reason.
I was right in the first place. It’s Cosmo Black.
Check the top of the box you posted as a picture for this blog post :P
AFAIK, it’s Cosmos Black in Europe and Cosmo Black in the US. To verify part of that, I checked my (European) 3DS box :)
Well that explains it. Very confusing! :-)

Its suppose to be wobbly to reduce stress fractures.
Mine wobbles, but it doesn’t make normal gameplay any different unless Ubisoft decides to makes a Imagine Babies game where you can shake the baby to death…
Anyway, I can’t be bothered to get a new one, unless I get a gift certificate due to the price being reduced. But that is highly unlikely.
The screens supposed to wobble to reduce the stress when you move the handheld. If it was stiff then it may break.
That’s exactly right. I was trying to post (Via Twitter but wouldn’t go through) that everyone seems to think it’s an error in the make. But it’s like you said.. Nintendo learned from all the other products not to let the screen be so tight.
Duhhh people..
It’s the bottom screen rests against the top screen and leaves those lines on the top screen which annoys me a little. I’m fine with the wobble.
My wobbles in a “meant to” way not in a defect way.
The wobble is normal. I think Nintendo started designing them this way to extend the life of the hinges. My DSi XL wobbles too. I think that’s the model they started this particular design with.
my top screen wobbles a bit too and my 3DS isn’t a month old yet.
it doesn’t affect the gameplay so it really isn’t that big of a deal
Ok, know I really don’t want one its to high 3D don’t evan impress me on it(I tested at gamestop) I only see on game I want and E shop don’t have nothing.
Ok, know I really don’t won’t a 3Ds its to expensive, the 3D did not impress me(I teseted at gamestop), there only on game I want for it which I can get multiple ways cheaper, and know the wobbling. Thing seems like they rush the design just to try and sell it.

I just have a problem with the shoulder buttons. Easily forties and gets stuck. Also the bottom screen scratching the top. Super design flaw
Mine was so bad it made playing with the 3d on nearly impossible. I took it back and got a different one 4 times, and they were all tge same, so I ended up getting an XL instead. No wobble at all. The “stress fracture” idea is BS. between the hinge and the bottom screen border scratching the top screen, it smacks of a rushed release. Shame because I love Nintendo.
Happens to me once in a while but it dosent do it all the time
