Nintendo Wii: Nintendo Provides More Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword Details

Nintendo America issued a press release earlier that provides us with more information on the forthcoming Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Some of you may wish to look away as some of the information could be considered spoilers. Enjoy!

  • Introduction: The new game’s storyline begins in Skyloft, an island town suspended high in the sky, on the day before young Link is to compete in a major bird-flying competition. The winner of the contest will earn the honor of taking part in a special ceremony with Zelda.
  • Link and Zelda: Friends since childhood, Link and Zelda have always shared a special bond. Events in the new game will add even more depth to their relationship.
  • Groose: Link’s nemesis at school, Groose, plays a significant role in the early moments of the new game. This bully of a character not only threatens Link’s chances to win the bird-flying competition, but he also reveals a jealous streak toward Link and Zelda’s special bond.
  • Fi: Early on in Link’s new adventure, he encounters Fi, the spirit of the powerful Goddess Sword. Fi’s guidance proves to be crucial as Link goes forth on a challenging quest that will ultimately result in the creation of the Master Sword.
  • Zelda’s father: Gaepora, Zelda’s father, is the headmaster of Link’s school. As such, he has knowledge of the history and legends of Skyloft.

  1. Hey explain to me if this was before ocarina of time and hte earliest game in the zelda series why does he look in his late teens.

          1. Don’t forget Zelda I and Link’s Adventure. Some fans believe that Link’s Awakening is the sequel to Link to the Past also – And I think that the Oracle games are meant to follow right after another game in the series.

        1. The legend of Zelda is now confusing me so much.

Zelda is always aged different and I thought it’s the same Link because they all look the same!

      1. They never mentioned about the great great great thing, some of the theories support these are incarnation of Link.

Only one thing for sure. Zelda from TP are decedent of Zelda from HP. Maybe that same as every Hyrule princess. But still a possible parallel world serve as one issue between OOT & TP

    1. Just like in Wind Waker, it tells the story of a young hero (Link) that saved the world from destruction (OoT) many years ago. So like the 2 other responses, it is almost always a different Link.

  2. Wasn’t the owl in OoT called Gaepora? Also, STOP WITH THE DETAILS NINTENDO!!!

Seriously, I know it’s optional to read these, but they may end up spoiling the whole game before it releases. Anyone remember the Smash Dojo or something where they revealed all the characters of the game before it got released? I don’t want that. It would be ok if they told us about new gameplay mechanics and stuff but not key elements.

  3. I always knew Kaepora Gaebora wasn’t the sage of light. I just didn’t expect he was the father of one of the oldest incarnations of Zelda O.o

  4. I don’t think this can be the first installment in the series – or at least if it is then it needs to have a good explanation as to how Link gets his hat. Minish Cap is supposed to be the first Zelda game where Link wears the iconic green hat.

  5. The Only Pokemon Champion

I find it extremely wierd how in most games zelda is a princess and in this she is a commoner :/
I mean that takes away the legend from zelda

    1. Well, it’s said that Zelda will not be a princess “in the traditional sense”, so that might refer to her becoming a princess instead of being born as one (which I assume is the traditional sense).

  6. So sickr, review copy ordered yet, so you can give us your opinion/make us jealous before we get our retail copies? :-)

  7. I love more details but it should be the last as it may spoil it next.

Other news, 2 months ago I predicted the Wii U release date for all 4 main regions. The predictions are very accurate and i think it maybe true. I spent a few hours on it and it maybe the answer to when it’s being released

Anyone reply to this comment if you want to see when it’s being RELEASED and WHY!!!

      1. Yep here it is! It’s quite long but it says why it will be released then.

        Wii U release date predictions

Nintendo said it’s after April 2012

Sega said it’s ether spring or Summer 2012

Nikkei says the system will be released in mid-2012

Nintendo Said the release date and price will be announced in 2012

My highest guesses on current rumors is just after E3 2012 (June 12-14), The release date is most likely late June. As Nintendo released Zelda OC 3DS just after E3, Nintendo may give the chance for more players to have a go on the Wii U just like with Zelda OC 3DS.

Of course as of what happened with the 3DS launch, the 3DS was released in Europe two days earlier then USA. and about 27 days after the 3DS was released in Japan.

With Nintendo every console launch through years, different regions got it quicker like with the NES when it was released in Japan, North america had to wait just over 2 years until the NES was released. then compare with the gamecube America got the gamecube 2 months after Japan, then with the Wii, Europe got the Wii 6 days after Japan. but then compare with the 3DS.

As of the Dsi Australia got it a day before Europe, and the same with the Wii, and Australia got the DS lite before Europe, this was of 2006 and 2009. The Dsi XL however was released in Europe first then Australia last, and same thing happened with the 3Ds. since 2010 Europe got the consoles before Australia.

Australia got the Wii remote plus before Europe and with the Wii being released before Europe. There is a chance the Wii U could be released in Australia before Europe. Home consoles maybe different on release dates to hand held.

Europe mostly gets nintendo consoles before North america these days. Because of this Europe may get the Wii U a week after Japan launch and North america is most likely to get the Wii U after Europe. As nintendo and sony are based in Japan, the consoles are released there first, and Microsoft are based in USA, America get the Xbox first. and Australia got the 3DS last, but they got the Wii before Europe by a day.

In Europe games and consoles are almost always released on Fridays.

Japan will almost certainly get the Wii U first

Australia could get the Wii U before Europe

North America will almost certainly get the Wii U after Europe

Console may be released after E3 2012 so Gamers get another chance to use the Wii U

The best predictions for release dates

        Japan: 23rd June 2012

        Europe: 29th June 2012

        North America: 1st July 2012

        Australia: 28th June 2012

        1. Australia wont get it before Europe (maybe you meant July for Australia), Japan is likely to get it before the next earliest date by 2 weeks minimum (if the 3DS is any bases).
But yeah, June makes sense, that would be the absolute earliest it is released I would think.

          1. Europe got the Wii a week after japan however.

Consoles are being released sooner together in different regions through time to.

  8. F——————–k…. i was hoping not to buy a wii since they broke in my house and stole it and just wait for the wii u but damn this zelda game look so beautiful idk wat to do aaaaahhhhhhhhhh

    1. Are you in Europe? as in europe there releasing a cheeper Wii Slim dropping GBA support. It will be releassed in December the Wii Slim

    2. Also do you want to know when the Wii U is predicted to be released, just before your comment there is another of my comment witch has details.

  9. EPIC. I’m so glad thye didn’t port Skyward Sword to Wii U like Twilght Pricess from Gamecube to Wii. Wii U looks epic but people are slagging it off already.

  10. ok. i really dont understand why everyone thinks that minish cap is the first game in the zelda series. in almost every zelda game link gets hiw cloths in the game. so with the logic of “oh its the first because he gets his hat” than wind waker and twilight princess are also the first games in the series.

  11. Best comment ever!

    “This game is not HD.
This game doesn’t have voice overs.
This game does not rely on the convenience of a HDD.
This game won’t output TruHD sound, nor will it provide DTS sound.
    This game won’t support multiplayer.
This game doesn’t have achievements or trophies.

And this game is going KICK M-A-S-S-I-V-E @SS!

I mean, this is what I call “the Nintendo Warranty”, the “Seal of Quality”. A game like this comes out, BUY IT! No need for reviews. No need for demos. No need even for publicity!”
