Nintendo Wii U: Team Ninja Are Pushing The Wii U Hardware To Its Absolute Limits

Tecmo Koei localization head Peter Garza has told VG247 that Team Ninja are trying their absolute hardest to push the Wii U hardware to its limits with the forthcoming Ninja Gaiden 3. The game itself is still in the very early stages of development, but the team are already tinkering around with the Wii U controller to find out how to make it shine.

“We’re still finding out what the hardware can do and how to work with the hardware itself. Right now, we’re at a very early stage, so we can’t say that we’re pushing it to its limits right now.

“But I can tell you that the team being what it is is definitely interested in pushing the hardware as hard as it can. With 3DS, when we brought out Dead or Alive: Dimensions, that was one of the best looking 3DS games out there.”

“And we really wanted to use whatever hardware we were on, we want to use to its full potential and really push that. Not just in spec, but the features that make that hardware unique. So for right now with Wii U, we’re just starting to know what Wii U is and how we can make it fun.”

  1. objection! they sure as hell didn’t push the Wii to its limit with metroid: other m, so i highly doubt ninja gaiden 3 will push the Wii U’s limits.

    1. He said they pushed 3DS to its graphical limit. They couldn’t do it with Wii because it wasn’t on par with the other consoles. Now they will have the chance. Learn to read.

      1. Yes, it was a great looking game for a company that didn’t really have much experience working with the Wii hardware.

      2. it was good and all, but i think the main hype for its’ “failure” was the persona Samus was given as a soft hearted bounted hunter, when ppl were expecting a cold blooded, unforgiving, ruthless, badass samus. I beleive in one thing…its a game, get over it. story was good, gameplay was good. lemme see you make sumthing better.

          1. no
there might be sayign that it will run smother
e.g sonic unleash for 360/ps3 was not powerful enough to run abate stage with out the framerate droping to 10-15 aframes per secondnd a and all game have 55-60 frames per second

      3. Yeh! Some of the best Wii graphics.

Other M did not look like a wii game at all. I’m still wondering how a 749MHZ Box is doing all that.

    2. Overruled.

Metroid Other M was Nintendo’s clusterfluff, and Team Ninja was operating with a very heavy yolk on their shoulders.

      1. Exactly. I mean it was Metroid. It wasn’t Ninja Gaiden or anything like that. They were dealing with one of the Great 3 game series that Nintendo brought up from it’s very roots. Of course, adding character to Samus was a VERY bad idea, but they also made some amazing additions to keep her that badass bounty hunter, like the melee battle techniques. I thought those were very cool. If only that game was 12-30 hours longer with no voices or hardly any cutscenes, It would probably have been the greatest game of that decade. (Ocarina of time doesnt count because i said decade :P)

        1. Team ninja are too much into turning their games into movies.

Over half of the DOA series game story modes, were cutscenes! Hardly any game play.

I geuss team ninja watched more Movies then games.

      1. Your a X box fanboy, are you?

Really, Other M was pushed to the limits. The graphics were equivilent to lower graphics PS3 games at least. Just below average Graphics of PS3

  2. You can’t push a console even near to it’s limits before it’s even released (and there’s been rumours about underclocked dev units). Take a look at xbox360 launch titles and compare them to current ones. If Wii U games look great on launch, they’ll look wonderful in 3-4 years.

  4. I doubt it. I’m not saying that they’re bad, it’s just that they’re developing a multiplat game. They already have their game assets such as textures, character models and character animations. Using the hardware to its fullest would mean redesigning the the textures and stuff. That would be too expensive. They did great with Dead or Alive Dimensions, but they didn’t have much time and it was their first game on that system. Otherwise, they could have done even better such as 60fps in 3D like Tekken 3D. As for the controller, I doubt they will do much since they need to work on all versions of the game.

Now, considering Team Ninja is working hard on the Wii U, it’s safe to assume we’ll get Dead or Alive 5 on it. I really want that game.

  5. the graphics for the gameplay of other m were a letdown but the cutscenes were beautifully made. Still it was nothing compared to prime 3 corruption. i loved ninja gaiden 2 though, i look forward to a wii u version, it is good that nintendo have some decent 3rd party support when they never really had that on the wii

  6. I think that the company thatt is pushing hardware to the limit is CAPCOM. Just check out the work they did with RE: Reveltions, RE: The Mercenaries and Monster Hunter 3G. That´s bringing th system graphical potential to it’s limitis, like Phantasy Star Zero did for the original DS, or The lastt story and Xenoblade for the Wii. Anyone agreed?

    1. Not to mention Monster Hunter Tri on Wii. I was so impressed with the visuals they were able to pump out on that console.

  8. They’re saying all this stuff, but all I hear is, “It’s gonna be a straight port with tacked on ways to use the screen. Oh no, wait, that would be too difficult, so let’s just put the HUD on the touchscreen and that’ll be it. It’s only a launch title so it’s allowed to suck. We’ll just promise to make better games later on, just to make them feel better. All right, back to our mobile platform game for the iPhone — the way to go, of course. Man it’s starting to look good. Hey, put some tacked on touchscreen controls for this too, man it’s gonna be off the heezy.”

In case you’re wondering, yeah, I really do think developers are out of touch with gamers. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know, I know, come 2012, I’ll probably be singing a completely different tune. But as far as right now, all they’re spouting is words. Since the concrete stuff for this game will no doubt appear in 2012, I’ll wait till then. For now, I seriously hope they really are taking the Wii u seriously. It would be a shame if everything I wrote here is exactly their attitude towards making this game for the Wii u.

  9. psssssh you know developers say this every year and then 2 years later they make another game saying “We didn’t actually hit the limit with our first product but this time we are pushing such and such console to it’s limit.”.

Still excited they are taking it seriously look forward to the results.

    1. I will agree, about 90% of the headlines on this site are sensationalized a little. But the article also says… “But I can tell you that the team being what it is definitely interested in pushing the hardware as hard as it can.” and “And we really wanted to use whatever hardware we were on, we want to use to its full potential and really push that.” One more thing, using the term “bro” after anything makes you lose all credibility; just thought you should know.

    1. Noo!!!!

The limit is almost full power gaming PC.

The processer is rumored to have 3.8 GHZ which is more powerful then PS3 and more powerful then average gaming PC’s which are usuly only 3.2

      1. its not just about processor buddy its about other components too (gpu, ram, etc). 3.8ghz is good, but ppl can overclock an i7 to 4.5ghz or even higher. and dont compare this gen console to a next gen lol.

        1. If the specs of a PC can be continuously changed, then you can’t really make a valid comparison with the Wii u and PC, can you?

          1. I mean as in current mid range PC

            example:
-processor clocked at 3.5 to 3.8ghz
-a similar card to r6850-r6870 ( or an old 4xxx series card if rumors are true)
-4gb of ram (or 1-2gb because its a console)

            1. PC game requirements are averaged on 3.2GHZ these days.

              It’s really due to PS3/360.

People can clock their PC to 5GHZ if they want the best graphics.

  11. Well, all I will say is that the WiiU had better be a step forward, not a step sideways. i.e., the system had better step into the future rather than try and keep up with it.

  12. Well this is great news if it is true. I can’t wait to play Ninja Gaiden 3 on Wii U. Now bring over Dead or Alive 5 as well.

  13. Considering the great amount of resources and investment that these games need, just hope they make this title stand out over any other version for other consoles, the first titles for the wii u will be key to make the console successful, besides the price of course.
