Nintendo 3DS: Nintendo Preparing Brand New Zelda Adventure For Nintendo 3DS, Majora’s Mask Remake Still Possible

Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma has told Portuguese site My Games that the company is hard at work creating a brand new Zelda title for the Nintendo 3DS.

“We are already preparing a new game, a game in the series for the Nintendo 3DS, but don’t think that it is a direct sequel to the Zelda titles released on DS. We are talking about a new game, but it takes much of what has been done on previous consoles.”

Eiji Aonuma was also quizzed about the much-requested Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask remake and stated that it’s something Nintendo has been thinking long and hard about.

“It’s something I’m asked about often and I assure you that it is something I’ve spoken to Miyamoto about. But recently we released The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D as a remake. We are considering the idea, but it didn’t seem right to launch a remake one after another, so the next Zelda game on 3DS will be original.”

      1. I think they should make 2 new zelda games for the DS & 3 new zelda games for the 3DS.
And they should make the remake for majoras mask & wind waker!@!!!!!XD
Also minish cap remake!!!!!!!!!!!!! so thats 6 games for the 3ds & 2 for the DS (new games not spirit tracks & phatom hourglass!!!!)
How agrees with atleast 1 new game for each system?

        1. The DS is a system they don’t wanna keep around so why would they make games for it. Also they wouldn’t remake wind waker because it is a gamecube game and doesn’t need to be remade. Lastly minish cap doesn’t need to be remade, they can just put it in the e-shop.

          1. 1. That’s milking the franchise, 2. It would take a while for them to come out, and 3. Good luck spending $195 on 5 DS games. W/o tax.

        2. Look, we all love Zelda here, but don’t be silly. There’s no way they’re putting the effort into any new Zelda games for the DS. The last game was that Alien title, and with the 3DS kicking off 2012 with a decent lineup they’re not going to revert to DS titles.

I can’t wait for them to remake Majora’s Mask, though. I’ve been holding off re-playing it for a while now just so I can have it feel fresh for the 3DS adventure. I hope there is a master quest option as well. But I am also all for a new title, as long as i get Majora.

        3. That’s take at least 12 years. I agree with Spirit Tracks and Phantom Hourglass because, they’re already on the DS why would you need to buy one for $40 when you can get one for $20? They’d also have to make one for the Wii. I’d just take to long.

    1. This makes sense, as, theoretically, they’ve been working on this since they finished Spirit Tracks. That’s two years ago. OoT 3D was made by a second party, so the handheld Zelda team was free to work on this. I’d say Holiday 2012, or early 2013, with MM remake probably around Fall 2013 to Holiday 2013. MM remake will probably be done by the same studio that did OoT remake.

      1. blah…. good games take sooooooo long to be released. next time i’m waiting like 2 years after release of a console to get it and then the good games will actually be out by then or near to the time to come out..

Looks like us Operation Moonfall people will be waiting for a couple of years for MM3D, still sounds promising at least :)

Oh, and a new Zelda game for 3DS?!? :D Awesome to hear indeed, although Im not too surprised. :)

      1. Dude, are you crazy? Op Rainfall has already gotten past 60% completion rate. They got localization and everything. Moonfall’s not even close to being done, Aonuma just confirmed that.

        1. Alex Delderfield (ADEdge)

The fact is that Nintendo dont want to be releasing 2 remakes one after the other, but they seem to be seriously considering MM3D, or have already decided to do it, just after this new 3DS Zelda.
So thats no indication of whether ‘Moonfall is done’. And I dont know where this 60% completion rate was pulled from for Rainfall, but what anonymous2 said is true, Moonfall has 20,000+ supporters on facebook, Rainfall has under 200. Rainfall has ~6000 petition signings, and Moonfall has 42,000. Take into account the much smaller amount of time Moonfall has been around, and thats really a showing of support. Moonfall reached 10,000 signatures in 5 days afterall, which was quite impressive.
Also Im not bashing on Rainfall, I support that as well, I just don’t see how someone can argue that Moonfall is lacking support or not doing as well in comparison, when you look at the actual facts.

          1. it would be cool to have another zelda game with the twilight princess art style though. twilight princess art style was my favorite but i still like the wind waker style too. they’re both just so cool.

  2. My “sword” litterally went Skyward when I read this… yes, litterally, and Skyward high. This never happens to me, not this fast.

  3. A Majora’s Mask remake would be amazing and is still likely to happen, we’ll know more about it this time next year probably. But it’s brilliant news about a brand new Zelda game for the 3DS, the best thing would be to make it similar gameplay to the 3D games and surely it is possible with the OOT remake as proof. Because I’m really not keen on the DS style gameplay, using the stylus to move etc, it’s what makes PH and ST not so fun to play….. I have to admit ST is a brilliant game and high up there for me, but PH is not, and even when I play ST, I don’t enjoy the gameplay as much because of the use of the stylus, so gameplay similar to the OOT remake would be great! (or just go back to the original style but with good graphics, like the minish cap!)

  4. This is good, a remake at the start, a new game, another remake, and another new game to send the 3ds off at the end. Zelda’s gonna be very good on the 3ds :)

  5. Yes! I can’t believe we’ve made it this far! They’ve actually talked seriously about it! The future looks bright fellow Moonfallers! I also can’t wait to see what they do with the new original 3DS Zelda.

  6. i wish the new Zelda for 3DS would be more like Ocarina of Time 3D rather than Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks :)

and, did i read the comments right? would you like Majora’s Mask remake for Wii U?

    THAT WOULD BE F*CKING AWESOME!

  7. This is the Zelda game he mention the other day that would be made around 3D, so it should be good for puzzles and stuff. I really hope they don’t forget about Majora’s Mask. It would be unfair if only OoT gets a remake.

And for all of you who say that they only do remakes and stuff, at least those remakes are meaningful and popular. MM is something the fans have been requesting for a while; they (we) are the ones who want this to happen.

  8. Pretty good logic there. I agree that releasing two simultaneous remakes wouldnt be as good as an original adventure

  9. IT’S RAINING ZELDA…HOLLALULLA!!!!!!!!

KEEP EM COMMING… I THINK 5-6 YEARS IN BETWEEN CONSOLE GAMES IS WAY TO LONGGGGGGG

        1. It was supposed to end in January and 2009 too. So yeah I don’t really believe that kinda crap like the world ending and bad luck. It just doesn’t happen… So count on new Zelda!!!!!!!!

  10. I like this kind of news. It’s good to hear that a game is being made rather than they’re thinking about making it.

  11. More Zelda!? God dammit! Is that all they think about? Zelda,Mario, Zelda, Mario. Gets kinda boring after a while. Mario is good but Zelda is so overrated IMO. Why don’t they make a new series or Pikmin 3 after so many years of waiting. I don’t like them but more F-Zero etc. There just getting repetitive.

    1. i agree that zelda is great but their other franchises are treated like shit (best example is metroid). it really sucks because everything this year was about zelda.

      1. dude. zelda isn’t just great it’s amazing. and it’s zelda’s 25th aniversary of course this whole year is about zelda. yeah metroid is cool but i doubt millions of people liked it as much as they liked zelda.

    2. 25 th amiversary any one? Duh it’s gonna be about Zelda and they haven’t come out with their Mario in forever and they did make 3d star fox. Have they even made a new metroid? Cus if not they probly won’t, sorry.

  12. I don’t care what order they come in, but I want both Majora’s Mask 3D and a new game. This sounds like we might get both!

  14. It’s amazing how no one gave a crap about Majora’s Mask 5-10 years ago and now it’s the most popular Zelda game around…

    1. A lot of people hadn’t played until the Virtual Console, and FYI it was my favorite game back then too. It has been since it was released in 2000 :P I love it that people finally gave it a chance to see how great it is.

  15. I hope it will be in th style of a open world 3rd person view like Orcarina of time complete with a ridable Epona :D

  16. so… how many new zelda titles….we have zelda on the wii, zelda on the wii u, 2 more zelda titles to arrive on 3ds; to bring its total to 3 on the 3ds….

  17. Sure Nintendo. Just keep pouring out the overrated Zelda and Mario games… but just abandon your fanbase with EarthBound.

    1. Earthbound is not even close to as big as the Mario and Zelda fanbases. They tried selling Earthbound, and it was a flop. I’m not saying Earthbound sucks, it’s a great game, but Nintendo is in the industry to make money.

  18. That’s fine. Just as long as it happens within the 3DS lifespan, we’ll be good. Plus, that delay and a new Zelda game should put a nail in the coffin (along with all the other titles in the horizon) of the idea that the 3DS is “just remakes.”

  19. this is excellent news, he says its a “new” game meaning something totally different to spirit tracks or Oot 3d. I would prefer them to leave the remakes for the moment and make something new and fresh then make a majoras mask remake a little later or even for the wii u

  20. It’s definitely a good idea to hold off on a Majora’s Mask remake. People would likely think that the 3DS’s library is a bunch of remakes if they did ANOTHER one. I do hope they end up making it in a few years, it’d be a great idea. But a new Zelda title next would be best.

  21. id like to see a majoras mask remake with a themed 3ds(not purple but a green ds with a picture of link and the stylus looking like the master sword

  22. MAJORA’S MASK!!! I’ve actually never played it. I’ve only played OoT 3D, PH and 4S (DSi version).

It would be less glitchy, easier to select items, and the bottom screen should be like the OoT 3D one. You know, I, II, X, Y.

  24. As long as it’s not another effing toon link game… tired of seeing that little twerp… he’s like dora the explorer with a sword and shield.

      1. I mean… Oh wow when I read that I busted up laughing sorry about your nightmare but that’s freaking funny!!

  25. if its not a sequel to other titles then wtf happened to the thing about remaking Byrne?

im so sad that there isn’t gonna be a sequel to spirit tracks.

  26. yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the legend of zelda is so awesome i cant wait till it come out!!!!!!!!!! and selena gomez looks soooooooooooooo hot!!!!!!!!!!
