Nintendo 3DS: Nintendo Is Very Interested In Making A 3D Zelda Similar To A Link To The Past

Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma has told Games Radar that Shigeru Miyamoto is interested in creating a 2D Zelda similar to The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past but with added 3D effects.

“Well actually, even Mr. Miyamoto himself has been talking recently about going back to the 2D Zelda games.

“In particular the ones that were designed with multiple levels to the world like A Link to the Past, and taking those 2D graphics and recreating them in 3D so that you could get a sense for the depth of those worlds.

“That’s something that might be interesting to do, so I would say there might be a possibility of something like that in the future.”

  1. Hmm… sounds interesting, but we have to take a minute to ask ourselves; Do we really want this to happen? The charm about the old games is that it leaves alot up to imagination, something a 3D remake could never capture. It´d be awfull if we were to play a 3D version of say ALTTP, and think “Ooohhh, so THAT´s how it was SUPPOSED to look back then!”

      1. well you can still say youve played every zelda game developed by nintendo, (both oracle games & Minish were capcoms) and they were all amazing. the artwork on both oracle games is different from nintendo but minish looks alot like FourSwords. all and all, their on par with nintendo.

  2. Donkey Kong Country returns proved that a game does not need full 3D to be a masterpiece – and I, for my part, do not concern about wether there is full 3D or only 2D with 3D-Graphics or only 2D. And I do not think this is worth discussing – I mean, what the hell? If a certain graphic style does make a game better, the game itself makes the first mistake there :)

  3. I think when Miyamoto refers to the 2D zelda games he means the top down view of those, they were always meant to give a feeling of depth and the 3DS will be able to deliver this plenty…

  4. To be fair, it did say “create a game similar to ‘A Link to the Past'”. That to me says they are going to completely remake a new game… I’m just saying. Funny enough, while I play the original LOZ on my 3DS, I think to myself “it’d be pretty awesome to have some depth to this game”.

  5. Ehhh I think ill pass if they made it like that. I prefer 3D open world 3rd Person Zelda like Orcarina etc. I passed The two 2 DS games for that reason.

  6. Hell fk no! 2d zeldas are great but i like more the 3d ones, they must show the capabilities of 3ds and make an original zelda witha great overworld cool and a lot of items and improbed graphics from what we saw on ocarina of time 3d, the game should havo also a lot of replayability and really hard dungeons

  7. whats…phantom hourglass and sprit tracks….those are 3d/2d the same as link to the past……..over view…..???????????????????????????

  8. I mean, going back to the roots by developing a 2D game once or twice is cool and all but lately I’ve had enough of all those 2D games… After New Super Mario Bros. (Wii/soon also Mii), Kirby’s Epic Yarn/Adventure Wii and Donkey Kong Country Returns I’d love to see more 3D games from NIntendo again… Sure, if you’re not sure of a good concept for taking a franchise to a 3D world it might end up bad but I’m sure Nintendo would get it right after doing that with Mario and Zelda and so on… Maybe I’m angry about nothing and this game, if it would ever be developed, will turn out to be great… Don’t know, I just hope – as the 3DS has so much more power than the DS and thus much more possibilities – that it’s going to be a 3D Zelda… Maybe this whole post is futile but I hope you can see where I’m coming from… ;)

  9. YES!!!! been witing for one since Minish Cap I love 3D Zelda games but Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks are both low in my opinion of order for the zelda series

  10. Pass…. I prefer Ocarina/Majora style.
Not to say I don’t like 2D zeldas but…. I played alot of those. Love the 3D links though.
PS: I’ve Played Zelda l, Zelda ll, Link’s Awakening, Spirit Tracks, Phantom hourglass, ocarina of time (3DS only) oh and Four Swords. I want to play these: Minish Cap (Please oh nintendo let it be in the ambassador program), Majora Mask, Twighlight Princess, Windwaker (maybe, not into toon link), Skyward Sword (duh), ballad of light.
