Nintendo: Nintendo Is Busy Creating Games That ‘Will Appeal to Women’

Reggie Fils-Aime has told Games Blog that Nintendo is hard at work creating a series of titles that will appeal to female gamers and to consumers over fifty. Nintendo will announce more information regarding these exclusive titles prior to next years E3 event in June.

“In terms of other genres, absolutely we will continue to push the envelope with new, unique, differentiated experiences that you can only get on the Nintendo 3DS and that widen the consumer demographic. So, will there be content to appeal to consumers 50 plus the way Brain Age did? Absolutely. Will there be content that’s going to appeal to women the way we are able to do with the DS? Absolutely. I can’t go into the details of what exactly those titles will be, but stay tuned. There is information that we’ll be sharing prior to E3, plus a lot of information at E3 as well.”

      1. I seen some of that footage.

I don’t think it appeals to anyone… it appeals to kids with bad old school graphic taste.

    1. Obviously Nintendo is making “core” titles along side the “casual” titles. Besides, it’s the first party title’s job to get more consumers, thus third parties will develop for the console.

          1. Shut DOWN.
not sure if her comments were supposed to be offensive or not, it’s kind of hard to tell. the first one sounded like it…. but then she saved herself on the second one….. hypocritical?

  1. Hopefully by that, they mean exceedingly good games. I don’t want ones that are all girly girl. I want action, rpg, fighting! If they could bring out all of the Tales of series on any of their Nintendo systems, that would be a huge bonus too =]

  2. Nintendo seriously needs to forget about people’s ages and genders. THERE IS NO LINE BETWEEN NINTENDO. You are making it unnecessarily hard for a simple adult chap to buy games when you keep calling them kids, girl’s or gramp’s games.

  3. I don’t see how making games for women is wrong? You guys should stop thinking about yourselves so much, it’s not like they’re gonna stop making Mario and Zelda games just because they want to expand their audience.

    1. That’s not the point at all, the thing is that with that statement they are implying that games like Zelda, Maro, Metroid etc aren’t really made with Women in mind, when they can enjoy those series just as much as guys do.

    2. It’s the stereotype they’re going to be marketing to that bothers me. Things like this say to me, “I’m a woman so obviously I only like pink things and games about cute pets, babies, and cooking.”

And the implications of what they’re saying here are just as bad.

  4. wow……. 15 years of loyalty… Goodbye nintendo and thx for giving me a good childhood but ill move on to the next console

  5. What makes this comment page even more hilarious is that if you hop over to the paid DLC page the same fucking people are all “Nintendo is king forever” and “Nintendo gets it right.” I seriously cannot believe all of you think this is a bad thing. I want one of you chimps to explain to me how this is bad.

  6. Nintendo just wants to expand their audience. They’ll probably make these games more quickly so the 3ds will sell better not just to boys or teens and what not. And they’re going to make other games that more people want as thet’re making these games

  7. Ok, so Nintendo do alot of games that you don’t like. So what? There’s in fact a big fanbase for thoose games, the casual gamers. I think it’s great that Nintendo doesn’t only think about the hard-core gamers (never said they don’t care about them at all, so don’t quote me wrong). Nintendo is the only game company that cares about ALL gamers and not a specific group, and they do a darn good job because they do top games in most genres. Nintendo is just adapting to the future when everyone will play video games, not just the über gamers.

The thing that all of you forgot is that it takes time to develop titles like Zelda but games like Brain training takes no time to do. So naturally there’ll be more “casual” titles. They’ve not forgotten the core base. You guys are just jelly because you get fewer games than the casual gamers, but you demand more quality and longer games than the casual gamers so the games you want takes more time to do.

The problem Nintendo had is that they had less third party support than Sony and Microsoft and that had NOTHING to do with bad quality hardware. It had to do with old grudges. But this is not the place do discuss video game history. But with Wii U this will change and they’ll be given more third party support which means more good games. So don’t blame Nintendo because they do their job and do games for everyone.

    1. I think is great too. In fact, in order to the 3DS continues to grow they need to expand the game’s genres at disposal with great games in each genre. We will be happy with games like Luigi’s Mansion 2, Kid Icarus, the new Resident Evil, and Metal Gear Solid 3D and some others. Nintendo is working in games for everyone :) and that way the world be a better place.

  8. I don’t understand the hate or criticism. It’s not like Nintendo is saying all of their games have been made for us “doods”, they’re a huge game company in a very well researched industry. I’m sure Nintendo knows that their core titles are played by both males and females otherwise they wouldn’t make make great games.

As for those saying that Nintendo will create games all about pink, cutesy stuff like babies and cooking, NO WHERE did they suggest this! 1st of all, companies that do make those kind of terrible off hand games are third party developers, NOT NINTENDO. 2nd, I think Nintendo is taking a hint from those terrible titles and not being sexist by actually create fun games targeted towards women. Who knows, we could see a new female protagonist in a new series by them.

  9. I think pointing out that they make games more for guys than old people and women would not necessarily help them because people will start noticing it and start trolling it

  10. Don’t know if sexist…
    …or just being Nintendo.

In all seriousness, I think that they should stop the whole “We’d like to appeal to this specific demographic with these specific types of games” thing. It isn’t really helping them much, since it just alienates everyone else.

  11. I’m a woman and the last time I played these kinds of games was when I first got my DS. >_> Which was……..*silence* Damn, that was a long time ago.
