This weeks Media Create figures are in and they clearly show that the Nintendo 3DS outsold the recently released PlayStation Vita in Japan. The Nintendo 3DS managed to sell an impressive 367,691 units whilst the PlayStation Vita sold 324,859 units. Also of note is that seven of the top ten games were on Nintendo platforms. I’m sure Nintendo is busy celebrating.

Wow, someones opinion on a game. That would only change the minds of someone who bases their game choices on reviews.
Game reviews are helpful for people when they are undecided in buying a game or having a hard time comparing between two or more games. In this case, the review tells the gamers whether or not the Uncharted game on the Vita lives up to its name and if the game is worth the price tag.
If you actually look up multiple game reviews of Uncharted: Golden Abyss you will see that the scores are very close to each other, indicating that the game does live up to its name and is actually worth the money.
I, for one, look up game reviews of a particular game to know its positives and negatives and to know whether or not its better than the other game I might be planning to buy. Game shows like Good Game on ABC delivers (mostly) unbiased reviews of games on different genres and on different platforms and this helps me greatly in buying games.

Here’s a few points to consider:
– Zelda series hasn’t been mainstream in Japan since Ocarina of Time.
– Wii has been practically dead in Japan for like 2 years now, with hardware and software selling just a small fraction of what they used to.
– The game released in November.
– Core titles such as Zelda and Final Fantasy tend to have very front-loaded sales in Japan, selling most of the copies first week.
In conclusion: to expect Skyward Sword to sell over 44 thousand units in Japan alone on its fourth week of sales is beyond unreasonable.
And we will never hear, the voices of Apple-Fanboys and the nintendo-Haters tarned as Journalists, for outcrying, that the PSVita is doomed. Of cource not, it is the better System and has way more hardwar-power and the mainreason: IT’S FOR HARDCORE-GAMERZ.

You are what I like to call a TRUE GAMER, not a fanboy to any side but just enjoys games of all consoles.
In the defense of a lot of people, it’s not really the games that people are thinking of when they cheer of an opposing company’s failures. I’ve enjoyed games that are for the XBox360 or PS3 myself, and I’ve gotten my share of jollies from articles like this one that either show Nintendo’s triumphs over others or the failures of the competition.
I’d like to think that a lot of the fanboyish tendencies you may see around here stem from happiness at the thought of Sony or Microsoft failing after having talked smack about Nintendo by saying their product or software will outshine Nintendo, or something to that effect.
The main cause of the fanboyish comments nowadays is the Vita. Sony claimed that the existence of the 3DS would have no bearing on what they were going to do with the Vita. Shortly after, the Vita was downgraded for the sake of pricing the Vita COMPETITIVELY with the 3DS. And now, it is shown that the Vita’s launch was even worse than the 3DS launch, despite better launch titles and a release during the holiday season.
I don’t know about you, but I always get some gigglies when another company spends its time talking bad about Nintendo then winds up falling flat on their face, even though I have enjoyed some XBox360/PS3 games.
I don’t hate any gaming company in particular, but alike you, I think it’s good when all the fanboys/companies are proven wrong after badtalking.

Well, PSP actually outsold the DS in the West during first year of sales. Just because PSVita can’t make a dent in 3DS numbers doesn’t mean it won’t sell tens of millions of units and have a solid game library.

But the DS’s first year SMASHED the PSP’s first year in all areas of the world. I will say that the PSP did well, but in the first few months of its release, the DS was still outselling it. It wasn’t until the 3rd quarter after the PSP’s release that its sales actually grew.
You’re right in some areas. The PSP was popular in Japan because they love handhelds. Outside of Japan though, the system was popular at the beginning, but then it died. Hardware sold well, but software for the system flopped hard.
To Sony’s defense, the PSP sold a shy 160,000 or something in its first week, so the Vita did outsold that. Whether that success can keep up or not remains to be seen, specially since the PSP seems to be selling better than before week by week.
So… in which areas was I wrong?
Yes, the PSP was successful initially but things have changed now, and the Playstation brand is not even near as strong as it was during PSP launch.

Not celebrating yet. Let’s see how the sales look after a month or 2. If the Vita is still struggling, then it might be an indicator. Then again, part of what makes Nintendo great is how they price their systems (and, as the 3DS shows, when they screw that part up, they correct it).

Playstation Vita is yet another failure of Sony.
When the Nintendo 3DS launched, the dying race of Sony fanboys ripped on it saying that it didn’t sell well. I specifically countered by saying that by the time the PS Vita launched, the price of the Nintendo 3DS would have significantly decreased and the 3DS would be following in the successful footsteps of every previous Nintendo handheld. Sure enough, that is exactly what happened!
And by the way, I am glad we now have confirmation that the sales figures for the PS Vita lauch are less impressive than the Nintendo 3DS.
We need to wake up to reality:
* The PS1 sold well because it was well designed AND because BOTH Nintendo and Sega made some BIG mistakes. Nintendo make the mistake of using the format of cartridges with the Nintendo 64. Sega made the mistake of designing the Saturn to be a console that focused on 2D games. Sega was forced to redesign the Saturn at the last minute to include 3D polygon hardware, which is why the Saturn ended up weaker than the PS1 and launched significantly overpriced.
* The PS2 sold well because of Sony’s lies and also because of mistakes from competitors. Sony claimed the PS2 would be able to play games with graphics similar to Disney’s Toy Story, using the Emotion Engine CPU. Obviously we know that never happened. Nintendo once again made the mistake of using the wrong format (no DVD). Sega launched too early with the Dreamcast but still had better hardware than the PS2 in many areas.For example, the Dreamcast was easier to develop software, and the Dreamcast had superior texture quality (8MB textures compared to 4MB textures for PS2).
By the time PS3 launched, people were aware of Sony’s reputation for telling lies with the Playstation brand. Sony was selling the same lies with the “Cell CPU” that they were selling with the “Emotion Engine CPU” but this time consumers weren’t buying the lies.
Now it is Sony that chooses the wrong formats. Blu-ray made the PS3 way too expensive. And Sony obviously used the wrong format with the PSP.
Now it is Sony that has a reputation for developing hardware that is difficult for developers to program. Both PS2 and PS3 were difficult and time consuming to program.
The Wii U is going to put an official end to the life of the PS Vita.
I confidently say this because the PS Vita will have launched between the debut of the Nintendo 3DS (with all of its cool 3D features now selling at a lower price) and the debut of the Wii U (selling at a comparable price, but offering much more power).

Wow so FF XIII-2 did manage to sell over 500,000. I’m impressed. I’m also impressed with Wii numbers. Over 60,000 in one week in Japan is not bad at all. I’m also happy to see those 3DS games selling so well. It means more games will be released for it, and it’s also an example of GOOD third party games selling on the system.
As for the Vita, I expected it to sell more with the holidays rush. The comment of people not having money to buy it now is irrelevant. Anyone who was waiting for the Vita would’ve gotten one regardless of what the others offered. My PS3 broke, and I have the money to buy a new one. However, I will wait for the Wii U. It’s as simple as that. It did better than the PSP launch though.

You must have really not even thought about researching before going about saying things like this. Sony is LOSING money for ever Vita they sell, while Nintendo is still making a very small profit, but it is still a profit unlike sony.

Besides a 3D screen, I can’t think of any. The 3DS was really not worth $250 when It first came out (in my opinion). With Vita, it seems fair to me.
But I still love my 3DS, Can’t wait for Vita to be released in my country!

There’s one thing and one thing only that defines a video game console. GAMES.
The Vita can be as powerful as it wants no one cares if there are no games on it. Power doesn’t matter. Until games have been developed for it, vita will fail. Just like the 3ds did.

Is a smartphone a dedicated gaming device? This comparison is between the Vita and the 3DS, both of which are dedicated gaming devices. Smartphones are not, so it is pointless to compare one with the 3DS or the Vita.
Of course games are what makes or breaks a console, that is common sense. I was just saying to Daniel J how the Vita does blow the 3DS out of the water where features are concerned.
Judging by the games that is already out and games that are currently in development, both the Vita and the 3DS are far from failing, so I’m not really concerned about that.

Look, Sony fags that cannot accept deafeat, they have been releasing commercials two to three weeks before the release date that mean people already knew it was coming out and wait to buy it.
The fact that the Vitan did not sell well is either because it sucked for people or just did not waant to buy it.

The fact that 3DS sold 42,832 more than Vita is really not that far off in terms of a business of their size (Sony & Nintendo). End of holiday time. I for one would honestly say if the vita came out dec 17th in the US I would not get it. I’m spent from Christmas shopping, as are many Americans.

I would wait for the first week both systems have a full week to sell, and see how they compare.

You mean “weak sales” and not “week.” At any rate, the comparisons here are that the 3DS sold more than the Vita in the week it launched in Japan, which only had 2 days for that with a much weaker software line up.
As for Americans, the 360, Wii, and PS3 keep on rising sales every week. December is when they sell the most systems, so your point is irrelevant here.
What’s your point? When the 3DS launched, it didn’t have any competition, either from other handhelds or from other major gaming titles, so your comparison is utterly useless. The Vita sold, against established competition with a 40% lower price point, 86% what the 3DS sold in a vacuum. Those are damn strong sales I’d say.
That may be true, but didn’t the 3DS launch with a “weak” line up? There were only six games in Japan and it was just the Virtual Boy 2, right? It also launched on a non-holiday time, with many PSP games being released by that time. Whether a system is old gen or new gen, competition was there, and the DS was still strong at that point. The Vita launched with many high quality games, and what happened to people saying it would sell 1 million units day 1 because of the glorified hardware and games?
Hey, I’ve got nothing against the Vita since I also want one, but Sony fanboys trash talked all they wanted prior to launch, so maybe this will keep them at bay. My one anticipated game is Gravity Rush.

This is awesome news for Nintendo. I’m just glad to see my beloved Kirby’s Return to Dreamland on the chart. I am worried about Japan as a game developing country now. The PSP was a huge help in getting Japanese games published for all audiences and now I’m worried the Japanese industry will slowly die out. But then again I could be wrong and the 3DS could save the Japanese gaming industry and get eastern games over to the west.
I love the 3ds and even the vita,the only prob is that i dont have money to buy them…but getting outsold by another competing system on the week of launch is a really bad thing…but its good to see that the 3ds is doing well and the vita might get a price drop soon
