Respected UK games industry publication MCV is reporting that an extremely reliable source has told them that both Microsoft and Sony will be showing off their next generation consoles at this summers E3 event. It will mark the very first time in the show’s 17-year history that three fresh, rival console formats will be competing against each other.
“Obviously we can’t reveal our sources. But you have my personal word on this – the source is exemplary, 100 per cent concrete, ultra high level.”

Yeah, it should be the Wii U’s year. But remember, Sony and Microsoft are competition for them. Would they want sales for the Xbox 3 and the PS4 going to Nintendo? Of course not. They want sales, and if they reveal it at e3 this year, they will get the sales they need for the 2013 year.

Well for a hater at least you did a lot of research, (´･_･`) it even worries me. Do you hate Nintendo that much? I personally love Nintendo but I do enjoy games from Xbox 360 and PS3 but most of those games are the fighting ones (Tekken, MVC3, Soul Calibur) but I still prefer the Wii because its games are not only fun to play with friends but that kind of fun doesn’t need an internet connection to actually experience that feeling your craving for. Don’t worry I have a wireless internet connection and it works pretty damn fine :) so please stop hating and from what I have read you only look at games graphically not game-play wise.

The casuals are going to see no reason to upgrade to Wii U because the Wii does all the things they need from their console. “Teh hardcorez” are the sort of people that would make posts akin to the above. All the games they care about are exclusives to Microsoft consoles (Halo), exclusives to PS3 consoles (…Uncharted?) and multiplatform titles that aren’t exclusive to Wii U (Absolutely everything else the XBOX users fawn over).

All companies have rehashed games on their systems and though Nintendo has been doing it for 25 years I would say they innovate enough on each iteration to make it a very different experience.

PS3=Little Big Planet Series,Uncharted and free online, Xbox 360= Halo, better online and many Indie games (my favorite type of games), Wii/WiiU= unique games, familiar gameplay that always feels new in a way, and party games for everyone. As an added bonus to the rehashed game talk, the WiiU will most likely use both controller AND touchscreen for a new gameplay feel, so SHUT UP ABOUT IT ALREADY!

They promised 10 years of support for the PS3 just as they did with the PS2, so I think they will deliver on that, even though the games that have come out for the PS2 in the last 5 years have been pretty bad.

Microsoft maybe, but why on earth would Sony reveal a Playstation 4? It’s still the most powerful console out there and most of it’s potential is still yet to be used. There is no need whatsoever for Sony to release a new console at this point.
Microsoft, however, has an ageing console that is due to be replaced sometime soon. Still, I don’t believe soon is this year. Maybe next year, but there is no reason they’d bring console development forward solely because of the WiiU.
Sources so far have indicated that the WiiU will only be catching up to the 360 and PS3 in terms of processing and graphical power. Thus, unless Nintendo has something big they haven’t revealed yet, I doubt in any way that Sony and Microsoft feel to threatened by it.

its not as good as the exclusives the ps3 got this year but its still a pretty big list if sony’s gonna bring a new console to the market. now i dont know much about the xbox list though.
Whether I was naive for it back the or not, I kinda remember having similar thoughts about the 360’s jump back then. ‘Where else are they gonna take the graphics?’ They showed me as did the PS3 about a year later. Still I think the industry may have noticed with the wii that there’s only so far you can go with graphics & the next step is the way you interact with games rather then just how they look on screen. The advances that we see could come in a crazy new controller, the way we perceive a game or something else crazy we never thought of. First thing that came to mind with me for Sony was True 3D with 3D glasses on a system where you NEVER had to do splits-screen again. They already figured a way to do that on their own moniter, maybe they found a way to do that for every 3D TV by powering the tech through the system. I’m looking to see hightend ways of connectivity & smother multimedia integration from this new generation & a stronger commitment to 3D with these new systems.
All I know is I’m excited for all three…and that te Wii U better be able to support 4 of those controllers lol!

What about stores, hell we still ahve stores that sell PS2 games, how much frustration is there gonna be when we have a 10 consoles to deal with. Theres no need for a good 3-4 years for Sony and Microsoft to release new consoles.

Actually, I’m certain Sony is counting on the Vita for that. Sure it’s a super-expensive controller/portable, but at the same time they love selling their stuff in separate pieces.
Meanwhile, I think Microsoft is pretty dead set on proving Kinect’s potential. They could introduce a screen, but they probably want as little in the way of Kinect as possible.
Meanwhile, the Wii U will not only appeal to developers with the toolset it offers but also to those who want to develop and play super-traditional experiences (while still satsfying both audiences, mind you).

Just because they release a new console doesn’t mean they will stop supporting the old one. The PS2 has had games released for it for ten years, last year being the last year of support.
I know that. What I’m saying is I thought they were gonna make the PS4 when the PS3 was 10 years old.
Putting a little perspective on these “graphics won’t get better” comments, sure we won’t be seeing a great graphical leap in games in the near future. However, visual developments are in the works that should be ready for the market entering the following decade, so there’s still places to go.
The important thing now, of course, is that the next generation will, instead of a leap, be the fullest utilization of what is available. Other than energy efficiency and the like, that’s about it. What generation 8 will come down to is interfaces, whether they be controlwise, system OS or the online network, whoever has the best of these should see success over the coming years. If Nintendo’s outside help on the Wii U’s online has a great outcome, combined with their wealth of experience in traditional and experimental controls, they should do just fine going forward.

There is plenty of room for improvement graphics wise. People seem to have this idea we are playing 1080p games at 60 fps and we arnt even close to that on consoles. Most games we are playing are barely above standard def and are just upscaled. The next gen could alow for true 1080p games at 60 fps aswell as DX11 improvements and various other upgrades.
Also the people saying about the PS4 costing stupid ammounts are not engaging their brains. The PS3 only cost so much because it was pushing blue ray as a new media and the blu ray drive cost a fortune at the time. Blu ray is now dirt cheap and easy to make . I would be shocked if the PS4 cost the same or more than the release PS3 ,it will more likely be going for 450 dollars or so.
^^True to your first paragraph, but not sure I fully agree with the second. While I don’t see the PS4 costing $999, a new Sony system has never come that cheap. The PS2 starting price was 699 was it not? There will be some kind of tech advancement (maybe some crazy processer that enables true 1080p) that’s gonna jack the cost up at least $200. A $699-$799 price tag wouldn’t shock me at all.

The PS4 will be $599 max, as Sony learned this generation what launching a console for a high price means, it took them quite a while to finally recover from that mistake, they won’t make it again even if it means losing money right after launch.
I think I see that they are learning thier lesson with the Vita costing $249 for the Wifi version at launch.

That a bad move cause Nintendo E3 2011 showed nothing about Wii except Zelda. This is also a bad move for Sony since they got to show PS3, PSP, PS4, and Vita all at once. Microsoft could do that. There are rumors that the new xbox is a lot easier to make and cheaper to make as well so the price may be lower than the original 360 when it launched. So if the price is good and Sony is too high, then microsoft could beat sony. I just want a wii u already
This can’t be true. Nintendo didn’t show much last E3. Microsoft and Sony need at least one more year hands-on with the Wii-U before being able to copy it. E3 2013 maybe, but 2012 sounds too soon.

Maybe not, but the PS3 has a lot more games. The Wii’s 3rd party support is a damn joke. Why is that? Because they based the entire system around motion control gimmicks. If it was just something on the side and we could use traditional controls, the Wii would have many more games. Sales numbers are nice, but it hardly defines a winner if developers don’t want to touch it with a 10-foot pole. Most of the big name Wii games are 1st party games, with very few offerings from others that can’t be played on other systems. Only good non-Nintendo Wii exclusive that comes to mind is MadWorld. Which is a nice title and no one pays it much attention. Nintendo lost this round.

Just as Blu ray was a gimmick. For you PS3 was the best and that’s fine but for me I still played the games I like. I get what people are saying about third party support and I believe people weren’t looking hard enough. The same as when people say no “mature” titles on the Wii. I also find it funny when I’m playing Scarface and the Godfather on my Wii instead of the XBox or PS3 people are surprised that it is on that console. Research show “Mature” games that are third party support. It is all about what you like. I don’t play FPS so none of those games appeal to me but that is not all that the XBox and PS3 is about. It is call research for a reason.
But at least the bluray “gimick” is useful :P A nice add on that you dont pay extra for. Back when those blu ray players were coming out PS3 was one of the cheapest.
Honestly Skyward Sword will probaly be the last game I buy for my Wii. I only have like 5 games for the damn thing. I have more xbox games then it and I just bought it last week. And well for PS3 I have a bit of a collection of games for it.

Actually, Nintendo lost out on the 3rd party support this time around because of no HD. If a company wanted to make a PS3, 360 and Wii game, they had to design the Wii one differently, which means it cost more to make the game. Most companies didn’t want to do that. It was easy for companies to make PS3 and 360 games because they were on or near the same level graphically.
If Nintendo wants this to not happen again, they need to have the Wii U on par or near with what the other next gen consoles will be like.

Everything you listed can be done on my wonderful Android :) and PS3 if you have a web camera for it.

What you failed to realize is that the other two already offer all those things you just stated, maybe in a slightly different way, but they do offer it (btw, streaming movies/shows on Netflix is even possible on the Wii).

Once again, I love Nintendo. I’m always happy to see them having big successes, but it is the truth that they did wrong back then with the Wii and that they are behind the other companies now because of that. Of course it did sell very well, but yeah, that doesn’t change the fact that they are behind the other companies power-wise right now.
Oh, and I never said that the PS3 has a built-in camera on the controller. I said that other consoles already have the features you’ve stated before, even if in a Slighty Different way. Other consoles had a camera add-on, which is better in my opinion, because an add-on makes the feature optional. The built-in camera will make the controller of the WiiU even more expensive than it probably would have been anyway, it’s basically a tablet after all.
I also didn’t say that the PS3 has a CPU processor from IBM. But I did say that the WiiU is slightly better on some points, which is the least to be expected since it’s been almost 6 years since the release of PS3 and Xbox 360 (it’s been more than 6 years since the release of Xbox360, actually).
And yes, it does matter if it has something which is avalaible on other devices already. They have to do it better than the devices of today, not as good as them.

ps3 and 360 had 1 main HUGE advantage over wii: graphics. That’s obviously why they’ve been getting all the great exclusives.

I wonder which technology the PS4 and XBOX360 will use… I mean “graphically”.
There’s nothing better than HDTV yet, I’ve read something about UHDTV and others technology for next TVs but they are experimental only and not yet on market. So, starting at the point the NeXtbox and PS4 will use HD, even if they work with the latest graphic cards on market, It will not be SO far from WiiU (Legend of Zelda HD exp. I NEVER seen something so smooth and bright on my PS3 or 360).
Maybe they will use streaming, (as Onlive does) have the game running on a server make the graphics running better than anything, but it would require an expensive broadband conection.
I don’t imagine anything above 1080p. It would be possible to go higher, but no one would be able to use it because of how expensive the TVs would be. I Imagine a PSX > PS2 jump rather than a PS2 > PS3 jump. You’re right, the PS4 NeXtbox may mean graphically superior, but it won’t be by much.

Wii U graphics are much stronger than that of the Wii. If you saw the bird demo or the Zelda demo shown at last E3, you would see that these graphics are utterly superb.

So excited for E3 I love Nintendo the most but I use all my systems almost everyday. And for all who want so say there isn’t going to be much improvement in graphics coming is pretty true. I mean look how amazing BF3 looked on pc. Yes there is a little ways to go that’s true but not far. I believe that soon its all going to be processing power to get that 1080 and 60 FPS.
I wonder about that. Showing off a system is one thing, proving that it’s more than one box is another. If they show it off this year and release it late 2012 or early 2013, then it won’t be as powerful as the fanboys claimed it to be. Then again, if Nintendo releases the Wii U before the competition at a good price, then the other two might get screwed over. Remember, Nintendo only showed a concept of Wii U at E3, so they didn’t set anything on fire.
The GTA 5 trailer should tell us that the next gen is ready to kick off, and I have a feeling Nintendo will steal the thunder from the other two with games and functionality.
I love Nintendo , i am defiantly am getting a Wii U at Launch and considering getting the next Xbox. I am not a Graphic whore like these PC, Microsoft , and Sony Fan boys. I personally like a balance between Graphics and Game play. I say Nintendo won’t get its Thunder stolen. Sony won’t reveal there next gen. console because they said it won’t release until 2014, it would be stupid of Sony to unveil it now. Microsoft on the other hand have rumors that say they will show there next gen console next E3. I support Nintendo mainly, but i also support Microsoft.
One thing none of us can deny though…Nintendo leads the market in any direction it wants to. If it wasn’t for Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony would never have bothered with the whole motion control thing, and they would never prematurely announce their own next-gen consoles in spite of their current consoles supposedly going for ten years. Nintendo might not have the greatest graphical power or the greatest third-party offerings right now (neither of which really mean much anyway), but they sure got the competition by the balls.

Look! I look forward to Sony and MS new systems, just not until 2014. With all the support that both these systems have gotten within the past 2 years, it would not only seem like a money grab, but desparate as well. The only one that needs a new system now is Nintendo. With the Wii-U offering HD and more power, they will now be able to take full advantage of multiplatform games. This, in addition to their own triple AAA titles, plus all the other features (ex. backwards compatiblity), are a BIG win for Nintendo. Regardless of income, or how big your house is, I think people will get tired of having so many different gadgets. With the Wii-U around the corner, I hope this to be the only console that I need/want to own (@ least till 2014).

Well this is not a surprise. I’m interested to see what they come up with. However I don’t see the PS4 and the new Xbox being more graphically powerful than the Wii U but obviously more powerful than their predecessors. I don’t think it will be like this generation was with the Wii vs. PS3 and 360. Even if the PS4 and new Xbox are more powerful than the Wii U it won’t be by much and most likely hardly noticeable, like comparing the Gamecube to PS2. It’s going to be pretty much an even match up with all 3 when it comes to their graphical output. I’m not really someone who cares about graphics but this is my take on it. I’m a huge fan of Nintendo and from those Wii U tech demos I think I’ll be happy with the visuals. Aside from all that I’m excited for the thing that matters most and that is the games and when it comes down to the Wii U I have high hopes.
