If a majority spells a word one way, that’s how the word is spelled. No one gives a darn about the “original spelling.” Language exists to get someone to understand what you want them to understand. If I spell it aluminium and the majority of people don’t understand what it means then it’s an incorrect spelling, even if that’s its “original spelling”.
Since there are more Americans than British, I’d say the American spelling is therefore correct.

Wow that was strange. I just wrote an very long comment but after I clicked submit my comment didn’t show up. Grrrr… well I’m not writing all that over again.
