Sakurai Starts Work On The New Smash Bros For Wii U And Nintendo 3DS

Masahiro Sakurai, the creative force behind both the Kirby and the Super Smash Bros. series has stated that he’s currently starting work on the next Smash Bros game for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. Now that he’s finished work on Kid Icarus: Uprising on Nintendo 3DS he’s turned his attention to researching how best to go about developing the next Super Smash Bros game. Sakurai is currently taking notes from the Smash Bros Dojo website and will gather developers to discuss the next game.

  1. I hope that means he’ll reopen the dojo later. I loved those daily updates. xD spoiled the game sure but it was something to look forward to each morning.

    1. third agreed I check everyday when Brawl was in work. This was the first game I was really Hype for then it was Skyward Sword.

    1. Everyone ignore this guy, he says something like this with every Smash Bros. article… I’ve already pointed out over 5 times that Sakurai is making a Smash Bros. for the 3DS first and Wii U second… in fact, he didn’t want to make a console game. Iwata convinced him to make a mobile version (Sakurai had too many ideas to pass up on this), and then later told him, “Why not make a console version?” Not the other way around.

      1. I hope theres a trailer for it at this years e3. There better be some kinda pikmin 3 trailer, i swear to god its been too long.

  2. AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
    YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

  3. Break a leg, Sakurai. We have no doubt you will knock it out of the park. I know you’ll have it ready for the Wii U launch, jk.

    Leave luck to heaven.

      1. Nintendo’s gonna kick so much ass at E3, they may have to call the police. They’re going to kick so much ass, Chuck Norris will be impressed.

    1. I’m almost certain that they’re going to have at least some functionality, hence they’re being developed together and; I’m pretty sure that I read something from e3 or Iwata asks or something that nintendo would LIKE functionality between the two. I suppose that’s not a guarantee but, It would make sense.

      1. I’ve seen very strong messages that it’s confirmed. They hadn;t started development yet, but I see no reason why they won’t make that a huge point to try

        1. rework Meta Knight, make Ganondorf his own character. Update some to match their current games, even Samus could use an update. Honestly, cut back on Earthbound because as I’ve seen the characters don’t really match their game.

          1. NO, WE NEED MORE EARTHBOUND! Kumatora and Jeff need to be playable. Also give Ness his PK Rockin’ and Lucas his PK Love. If anything cut back on Mario. I don’t care if he’s the mascot and all. Each franchise should have an even fair share.

      1. The should just make Meta-Knight weaker. They should replace Ganondorf with Demise (A character who can actually have a unique moveset) and simply make Ganondorf a costume for Demise. Make Ghirahim playable!

        1. Yes, replace the most iconic villain of the series with a guy that was just introduced. That would go over REAL well.

            1. Ganondorf is an incarnation of Demise, not necessarily Demise completely. The way I understand it, he’s now just a vessel for Demise’s spirit and hatred, or something. Which completely kills Ganondorf’s character for me and goes against some of the things we know about him from OoT and WW. If anything, they should make Demise a costume for Ganondorf.

  4. I just hope that they won’t do that leveling-sytsem where you need both 3DS and WiiU to be able to enjoy the game at its full extent. This was rumoured a while back… I wouldn’t even bother to buy one of them, if they would be happen to do this.

          1. Only if it’s a man. If it’s a woman, I wanna see. Depending on how old you are you would understand what I’m talking about. If you’re under 18, don’t get involved in this converstion.

              1. Who’s your favourite character, dude/dudette? Mine’s Ganondorf from melle. Haven’t played brawl. Sucks for me ):

                1. @ donzaloong

My favourite characters are probably Fox & Wolf (wish Nintendo didnt clone the same moves for them though, its just lazy!)

And to answer your other question, im a girl (if you can class over 25 as still a girl) XD

                  1. That’s good. You’re only 2 years younger than I. So I can get as pervy as I want to in our conversation. JK. (not realy, if you’re into it.)

Yeah, I also hate the clone moves. Ganondorf should have his own powerful moveset. That game is ridiculously fun though

    1. Great news! The wait is going to kill me though … you know the new Smash isn’t going to come out for at LEAST another three years….

    2. YES YES YESSSSS!!!

I have been waiting to hear about Sakurai developing SSB4 and now it’s finally here. Iam so excited now. Ihope we get a trailer at this year’s E3.

      1. “Sakurai is currently taking notes from the Smash Bros Dojo website and will gather developers to discuss the next game.”

        They’re still discussing I guess :P I don’t think we’ll have pictures by E3. Maybe next year :P

        1. At the most, I think we can look forward to some specific news about ssb4 at E3. Hell just some plain news about the game will get me excited! :D

      Ridley

      These r just my suggestions……………

If u want 2 reply & add more character suggestions, just reply!

                  1. Dante wouldn’t work because he’s in MvC. As for that list of characters, most would be nice trophies, but definitely NO WALUIGI!!

      1. Not sure about Krystal …..

The only people who like her are furries, and they all probably wanked themselves to death playing Starfox Adventures by now.

        1. 2nd Generation Pokemon
          3rd Generation Pokemon
          A Monster Hunter
          Dillon
The character of “Art of Sword”
The new character of Fire Emblem

      2. I don’t think Ridley should be playable. He’s better off being a boss character. Sure, they can shrink him down, but it wouldn’t be the same. Also, there shouldn’t be Tonn Zelda/Sheik as separate characters. They should be costumes for the normal Zelda. No need to be filling the roster with clones. I think Ganondorf should be replaced with Demise (He’s cooler) who can actually have a unique moveset. Maybe Ganondorf could be a costume for Demise.
Here are the people who should represent Metroid:
Samus Aran (Obviously! But I think they should make her play more like she did in Other M.)
        Rundas
        Gandrayda
        Adam Malkovich
        Anthony Malkovich

Finally Little Mac gets some recognition!

        1. At first I was going to reply to your “too big” comment, but as I read on I discovered you were (even more of?) an idiot.

          1. Oh, thank you. If Ganondorf gets replaced, it’s a dealbreaker. And Ridley BETTER be playable this time. These “too big” arguments are getting idiotic.

        1. Dragonball Z is NOT OWNED BY SONY. It is owned by Atari. And DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 2 and 3 are on Wii, and are quite good. But DBZ characters would never appear in a Super Smash Bros. game anyway.

      3. Personally… I think Saturos and Alex (even though he’s never been seen in battle) from Golden Sun would be a welcome addition. Such unnoticed characters nowadays haha…

      4. Okay everybody, here’s what needs to happen. (Nintendo, I hope you’re reading this.) They need to include every character that has been in the Smash Bros. games. That means NO REMOVING CHARACTERS! Add shadow and have a ”pokéball” character that makes you a random pokémon (and of course some other characters as well). you can use a menu like the item switch menu in SSBB to select and un-select pokemon. There needs to be more skins to add onto the characters (example: mario has a Dr. mario skin, samus has a dark samus skin, etc.) There needs to be a boss mode where you can make bosses battle each other. The 3DS and Wii U versions need to be the exact same. You should be able to use your 3DS as a controller on the Wii U version, that being the only diffrent thing between the two games. When making custom stages, you should be able to use your own picture off the SD card or one you took with the camera as the background for a custom stage. Reply if you think they should add more stuff.

      5. Definitely mii! My mii would kick everyone’s butt! But what would be the final smash? Maybe a customizable final smash? Sakurai, if your reading this, this could be a good idea.

      1. Sadly, they belong to Rare, which belongs to Microsoft which is a scumbag company that wouldn’t want their competition to use one of ”their” characters.
        Sad, but true :(

    5. I want to see two or three abilities for each character that are either changeable during a match with the touchscreen or just chosen once per match.

It would be interesting to see moves that are charged up based on damage dealt and are activated on the touchscreen. They would be more powerful than standard moves but less than Final Smashes.

    6. I’m hoping the two versions are released side by side on the same day. I’m hoping for Dark Samus :) I’ve also thought up final smashes for the Melee characters that didn’t make it to Brawl if they return.

      Mewtwo – Psycho Boost
Mewtwo unleashes a strong wave of Psychic energy, trapping and damaging all opponents caught in it. A final wave is sent out at the end that can cause you to fly off screen if you took enough damage.

      Young Link – Fierce Deity
Transforms you into Fierce Deity Link and you are able to shoot damaging sword beams and you don’t flinch from damage (like Giga Bowser).

      Pichu – Volt Tackle
Easier to control than Pikachu’s, but weaker.

      Dr. Mario – Virus Purge
The stage turns into a pill bottle, trapping your opponents. You drop exploding pills from above and at the end the bottle explodes, K-0ing anyone who took enough damage from the pills.

I have no idea for Roy since I haven’t played, nor do I know anything about, the Fire Emblem series.

          1. Dark Samus is completely different. If you played Metroid Prime 2 or 3 you would get a little peak at how her move set would be completely different.

    7. I hope for redone Smash Attacks. My real issue is that some last a really long time, some only for a single attack, and some have just ridiculous effects. I enjoy them when playing around, but having to fight a tank is so much worse than dodging Ike’s swing. And having less invulnerability would make things better. Why is Giga Bowser the only one who gets hurt?

    9. I love the 3DS, but I’d rather play Smash Bros. on my TV. I’ll probably skip the 3DS version.

I hope Sakurai rallies an effective team. The wait is gonna kill me lol.

    10. If the two versions are different enough I might get them both. If not I’ll just go with WiiU.

…But seriously, now that production’s started, can we give Kid Icarus a little respect?? There’s more to it than just being the game that comes before Smash… :P

    11. Here’s an interesting idea when it comes to Adventure Mode: Have the Wii U version be like Melee’s, whereas the 3DS version will be like Brawl’s.

    12. Well, as far as new characters go. Id like to see…

Red Savarin (from Solatorobo on Nintendo DS)

Alex Kidd (Sega’s old mascot before Sonic was born)

And then there are characters like Tingle and Slippy Toad … Just so you could repeatedly smash their stupidly smug faces in!

    13. YES! YES! YES! Great news. I want more characters than in Brawl! Uhmm… and maybe the kid from Final fantasy: the christal bearers (I can’t remember his name) as playable character.
Anyways, I’ll continue to kick ass with Peach…. now in HD!

    15. please don’t give us another disappointment like brawl.

give us a smash bros game this time sakurai.

…aww who am i kidding, the fact that he’s looking back on BRAWL for ideas already tells me this game is gonna be a disappointment, ice climbers will still have their ridiculous broken chaingrab, character balance will be non-existent again, he’ll try to force MORE luck on players in game(air tripping will be confirmed for the next smash, almost can guarantee it.)

sakurai’s gonna suck all the fun out of smash entirely and turn it entirely into a shallow shell of its former self, Started as a neat unique fighter/party game hybrid that just needed a little more polish with smash64, fixed everything and created a near perfect game with melee, that was able to be both a deep technical stand alone fighter and a party game to please both sides…..and then for whatever reason he wanted to shun out a huge portion of the smash community with brawl, and not only intentionally watered down the gameplay to casualfy everything, but just to rub salt in the wound, he didn’t even play test it well enough and we got a glitchy, EXTREMELY imbalanced, broken game that often doesn’t even fell fun when played casually.

I’ll be very very surprised if he actually creates a decent smash this time, but i’m not gonna even get hyped for this one.

        1. then clearly sakurai hasn’t even played hsi own games, nor payed attention to them.

you’d be a fool to think brawl is more balanced then melee.

          1. Don’t get me wrong. I think both are well balanced. Trust me, I’ve played Brawl for months, I’ve found no imbalances. I’ve also played Melee, as well as the first one (both on cartridge AND on VC) and I have never found a single imbalance.

He took people’s criticisms of Melee and addressed every one in Brawl. So, whatever criticisms Brawl has got, he’ll address in SSB4.

            1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSkCGa_J5wY

^there you go, this is just the tip of the iceburg of brawl.

look around more, go watch some vids of the pro players actually playing, they can show you first hand just how imbalanced brawl is, the reason you haven’t found anything is mostly becuase you haven’t really loooked, nor do you really know what to look for(i guarantee you’d never know about that ice climber chaingrab until you saw that video, these are the things all the competitive players have found, it’d be impossible for one person to find everything, but give a large group of dedicated players and you’d see em, and in brawl it didn’t take very long to find em all.) at the end of the day, the smash community has found so many ridiculous things in brawl that its not even funny, half the cast gets shut down almost entirely by metaknight alone(hence the reason he became the first smash character ever to be banned from competitive play), and a large majority of the cast are completely useless and so underpowered that they get shut down with ease(link ganon c.falcon, mario, zelda, pkmn trainer, jigglypuff, lucas bowser ike, sonic, samus, ness, luigi, just to name a few of the underpowered characters,)nearly half the cast of brawl gets shut down because of how underpowered they are.) and i do mean shut down, there are plenty of matchups such as ganondorf vs the ice climbers that are literally considered unwinnable, as long as the ice climber player is somewhat intelligent, and knows their chaingrab, the ganon can’t win, no matter how “skilled” he is.

              1. I beg to differ, I always used Lucas (low rank of 30 out of 38) online and I was near unbeatable, even when most were using characters like meta knight, losing perhaps once every 7 or so matches. That said PK Thunder II is extreemly helpful :P

                1. so you beat a bunch of random noobs in basic brawl with lucas? you think that’s accomplishing anything?

go against a real marth player…i can guarantee he’d love to face your lucas, so he can grab you and use marth infinite grab release chaingrab on lucas for an easy kill.

people who use the excuse “well i’ve beat with so and so” don’t stop and think that maybe….just maybe, they’re playing other people that are *so* bad at the game, that it wouldn’t matter what character they picked, of COURSE if you are playing someone who barely even knows how to hold a controller, and is just frantically mashing buttons, then yes it doesn’t matter if you picked ganondork and they picked metaknight, they’ll most likely lose.

But face someone who is even just SLIGHTLY skilled at this game, and thats when the gams balance issues start to show more, suddenly ganondorf becomes almost entirely worthless, metaknight becomes unstoppable, and the crapload of ridiculous exploits and glitches start to show themselves.

              2. dude, your talking about all these imbalances and shit but the fact of the matter is that its mainly skill, I main Sonic and he is weak but his speed and combo ability can make up for it if you know what your doing

    18. All of you are suggesting characters without any thought of reasons (especially the third-party characters). This list, on the other hand, was entirely based on examination of the past three rosters:

      – Little Mac (Thanks to Punch Out!! Wii)
      – Professor Layton (The need for more IP characters after Olimar)
      – New IP character (from Miyamoto’s upcoming game for the Wii U)
      – 3DS version’s customizable fighter (as mentioned by Sakurai’s early articles regarding this game)
      – Capcom rep (Because of the company’s involvement according once by early articles regarding this game)
      – Ghirahim (with a playable Demise as his final smash and vice versa so Ganondorf won’t be axed)
      – Bowser Jr., Toad, Daisy, Waluigi, or Geno (except maybe Geno, these following characters serve better reps than Dr. Mario, Baby Mario, and Paper Mario)
      – Krom (only to serve as an advertisement for the upcoming Fire Emblem 3DS title)
      – Zoroark (served only to advertise Gen V, as well as replacing Lucario)
      – Another new Pokemon rep (there’s a pattern of two Pokemon reps added in each title; Pikachu and Jigglypuff in 64, Mewtwo and Pichu in Melee, and Red and Lucario in Brawl)
      – WTF character (there’s always one in each title; Ness in 64, Mr. Game & Watch in Melee, and R.O.B. in Brawl)
      – Ridley (his Other M design may help him spawn an interesting play style)
      – King K. Rool (perhaps to promote his forthcoming appearance in a future DK game or Mario Sports game)

      1. Mario doesn’t need any more reps. Toad is fitting enough as Peach’s neutral B, Daisy is a alternate costume for Peace, Waluigi’s alright as an assist trophy (and is a shitty character anyway) and Bowser Jr is quite simply one of the most annoying character ever made. I do somewhat support Paper Mario, he would be completely different and makes just as much sense as Link and Toon Link.

        1. Mario does need another rep because it wouldn’t be fair if Zelda and Pokemon have more reps than Nintendo’s flagship franchise. Also, Paper Mario would only create a time paradox within the Mario universe because he and Mario are canonically the same character.

      2. Well, technically, Mewtwo was intended to be in both Smash 64 and Brawl, but was cut from both due to time constraints or something. At the beginning of Subspace Emissary, when the Halberd first appears, the faces of Bowser, Ridley, Ganon, Mewtwo, and Wolf are all clearly visible, indicating that both Mewtwo and Wolf were originally intended to play some role in SSE.

        1. The return of Mewtwo would mean that both Mario and Pokemon will have to increase their number of reps to 6, but with a cost of removing a few characters.

          1. Who said anyone would have to be removed? Sakurai has said that he’ll likely try to include 50-60 characters for this one, so there will be plenty of room.

            1. including 50-60 characters would go against his traditional 10 digit pattern on the number of characters on each roster (64 had 12, Melee had 25, and Brawl had 35, which means the roster for this game will include 44-49 characters).

              1. So what? Maybe he’ll break tradition. The Wii U discs I think are greater capacity than Wii discs, so more information can be stored on them. And let’s not rule out DLC. Even if, say, Mewtwo, doesn’t make it into the initial roster, he could still be put up for download at a later date. This way they could avoid the time constraints that saw him cut from both Smash 64 and Brawl.

                  1. Dude, traditions are MEANT to be broken. What was bringing Snake and Sonic into the series? Breaking tradition. What were Final Smashes? Breaking tradition. What will Smash Bros. on a handheld for the first time be? Breaking tradition. New game+ new consoles= new possibilities.

    19. Pingback: Masahiro Sakurai comienza a trabajar en el nuevo Smash Bros.

    20. @ M16 ic’s could CG in melee as well… and it was worse cause they could combo into the CG… it was so bad, that they had to ban it from tourney play.

brawl has had more char diversity in their tourney scene than melee for quite some time. please do research instead of blindly throwing out stupid stuff.

      1. At least someone agrees that Melee has its imperfections too, and Brawl addressed them. (Don’t get me wrong, if I review all three game, together or seperate, I’d give them a 10/10; for too many reasons)

      2. ic cg’s in melee weren’t anywhere near as devestating as in brawl, partly because the cpu ice climber was a hell of a lot dumber and easier to kill, adn partly because thanks to the more hitstun in melee( or as strong bad made mention at SWF, technically brawl and melee may have the same hitstun, but brawl’s can be cancelled after so many frames…which means your character is no longer “stunned” so….it has less hitstun.) the ice climbers where more easily separated and combo’d themselves, if brawl didn’t have the less hitstun, and real combos were possible, the IC’s chaingrab wouldn’t be nearly as devastating in brawl, because everyone would have some real way to combo them, but as it is right now, for a lot of characters, the “best way” to handle the ice climbers is to try and time them out.

as for your comment about brawl being more diverse, BS, metaknight says hi, as well as the tiny handful of characters that were able to go even to almost even with him(which maybe amounts to 5-6 characters.) melee was always waaay more diverse in its results then that.

    21. They should put Young Link from Majora’s Mask and give him the same abilities as Pokemon Trainer. But only to transform to Goron, Zora and Deku Link.
      Deku – light character
      Zora – medium
      Goron – heavy
      Great Diety – final smash.
They should aslo keep regular Link and Toon Link.

    22. @ normak

so you beat a bunch of random noobs in basic brawl with lucas? you think that’s accomplishing anything?

go against a real marth player…i can guarantee he’d love to face your lucas, so he can grab you and use marth infinite grab release chaingrab on lucas for an easy kill.

in fact i’ll make it easier for ya. ;) 1936-3528-2168

      there is my FC.

I don’t even main marth, and i can *GUARANTEE* you won’t beat me as lucas if i use marth, and i mean that entirely. Just a fair warning, you’re gonna be in for a rude awakening, when you get grabbed….its over, you lost a stock.

No gimmicky luck based items, no broken stages(only neutral ones like yoshi’s stage, battlefield, FD, smashville.) no excuses ;3

      1. Not everyone is a freaking tourneyfag. Not everyone cares that much about balance. This is a GAME, meant to be played by friends when they’re over at each other’s houses, or whatever. Just because you devote all your time to finding every little imperfection in the game, and becoming a “real player” of so-and-so, doesn’t mean that everyone has to.

        1. funny cuz even half the casual players like yourself i’ve talked to can’t stand how little character balance there is in brawl, no one likes to know some of their favorite nintendo characters are so underpowered that they are practically useless, casual or competitive, no one wants that, hell you casualfags should be up in arms just as much as the competitive players for character balance, idk why ay’all are complaining that the competitive smash players want something to make the games BETTER.

and to that other guy, smash64 maybe, but melee, lolno, melee was probably the sharpest of the 3 games, which is ironic bc he pumped melee out within like 2 years, where brawl took him like….6-7 and he ended up making the game so glitchy it wasn’t even funny.

          1. Dude, you’re taking this way too seriously, I’m a long time player with most big fighting franchises and have been to a couple of tournaments before, I think I’m pretty good but you missed my point; I apologize for that. I wasn’t saying the game isn’t broken, it’s just I like humiliating people with bad characters :P Sorry man, I’d love to give you a fight but I traded in Smash Bros. months ago to get Xenoblade ;)

          2. Get a life. Stop whining and bitching about how a massive corporation interested in making money didn’t make a game tailored specifically to your tastes.

            1. That’s what I’ve been struggling to tell him. Not to mention Sakurai greatly despises the tournament scene, and this same scene really tarnished Melee’s brand to him. He’ll make sure he never caters to them again. Heck, should someone remake Melee, they’ll just not cater to the competitive crowd.

I mean, sure, the competitives need fun, too. But Super Smash Bros. was meant to be both newcomer-friendly and veteran-friendly. He made the mistake of not making Melee newcomer-friendly like the other two; the pros dominated the entire game. He’ll make sure that never happens again. Not with Brawl or the next one (which by the way will address criticisms of Brawl just like Brawl addressing Melee’s criticisms and Melee addressing the original’s criticisms, too. Basically, whenever a new Smash Bros. is on its way, it will fix the criticisms of the last game before it)

              1. wtf are you talking about?

the pros didn’t “dominate” the whole game.

You nor any of the other non-competitive players never even faced a real pro player before, or even a slightly advanced player period.

You complain about something that never even effected you in the slightest, Smash melee was never difficult to get inot, it was still very much newcomer friendly, not once did you ever need to learn any of the advanced techs in the game, hell most of you didn’t even know about em, let alone even know how to perform em, the most y’all ever learned about was “wavedashing” and then thought you were “pro” because you made your character slide across the ground a couple of inches all the time, non-competitive s never even KNEW HOW TO USE Wavedashing to make it effective, most of you sliding around like idiots would simply get you slaughtered by a real tournament player(if you ever ran into one, which hardly ever happened.) who wouldn’t even need a single advanced move to win.

The competitive players never once effected the non-competitive players in melee, and melee was still very much newcomer friendly just like the other two smashes, it ONLY got difficult if you actually did intend to play competitively, whcih meant you were already planning on going to real tournaments and learning the ropes from the pros there. Otherwise playing with your buddies down the street, melee was just as easy to jump into for newcomers/non-competitives like you and them as brawl and 64.

seriously i’ll never understand this complaint, its the worst excuse i ever see from non-competitives, y’all have never once played a pro player or even someone remotely close to one, yet you try to act like the pros effected you or somehow made the game less “newcomer friendly” for you; when the honest truth is they didn’t.

      2. So your going to beat him by spamming a single move?

A “real player” doesn’t rely on cheap ass tactics to win a match.

        1. Exactly. They rely on variety, and variety is always the spice of life. It’s how I play.

I always play as characters equally, no matter what.

        2. spoken like a true noob.

idiots liek you just can’t accept the truth about the games imbalances, so you try to write off anyone who uses a valid, extremely effective strategy as “cheap” instead of realizing that you picked a lousy character that had a major disadvantage(such as lucas and ness’s extremely long grab release animation.) that the other player could take advantage of, or the cold harsh truth that you got baited and read like a book, and got punished, this isn’t chess, it isn’t supposed to be “i hit you first then wait so u can hit me” you capitalize on either your opponents mistakes, their characters disadvantages, or both, if you pick a lousy character like ganondork, and get your ass handed to you due to how underpowered he is, and how he has no way to handle a lot of valid tactics in the game, quit bitching and calling em “cheap” and just accept the fact that you are using a crappy character who can’t do anything.

          1. Lol, no. I’ve been playing Smash Bros. since 99. Noob? Hardly.
I accept that the game is imbalanced, Melee had it’s imbalances too. But where I come from, spamming a single move and not allowing the opponent the chance to even get on an equal footing is cheap. Sorry.
But what I really want to know is, if you tourneyfags hate Brawl so much, why not just go back to Melee? That way, those of us who do enjoy the game in spite of it’s flaws, don’t have to hear the bitching.
Also, hurr hurr, you called Ganondorf Ganondork. How clever.

            1. just because you’ve played since smash64 doesn’t change the fact that you’re still a noob at the games, the fact that you bitch and complain when someone uses a valid strategy against you cuz you think its “cheap” simply because you can’t beat it, qualifies you as a noob, in ANY fighting game community, Street fighter, Tekken, Virtual fighter, any and all fighting game communities would look at you as a noob for complaining that someone either picked a better character then you and/or used a valid strategy/tactic(which includes chaingrabs) on you, rather then trying to learn to beat it, you bitch and complain and throw out the “cheap” card.

unless its truly unbeatable in any way by ALL characters, and/or so gamebreaking that it completely shifts all matchups in that characters favor, its fairgame, marths chaingrab release only works on lucas and ness, Ganondork gets raped by the whole cast not because of some “cheap tactics” they have on him, but simply because he sucks in this game, so any noobs like yourself who get raped by all the better characters in the game because you picked the most lousy character in game, need to suck it up and quit complaining when someone steps up and plays with the intention of winning.

            2. *and btw most of us still play melee, or if we actually want the newcomers that were introduced in brawl, we’ll play the brawl hack known as Project M, which fixes all the problems in brawl.

we’ve played melee for over 10 years now, and sure the scene is still going strong, but it doesn’t mean we don’t want a real, NEW smash game again. Of course if sakurai keeps going down the casual noob path with smash like he did lolbrawl, if need be we’ll mod the games just like brawl and fix em.

              1. GRAB BEAT UP RELEASE GRAB BEAT UP RELEASE
GRAB BEAT UP RELEASE GRAB BEAT UP RELEASE
GRAB BEAT UP RELEASE GRAB BEAT UP RELEASE
GRAB BEAT UP RELEASE GRAB BEAT UP RELEASE
                SMASH ATTACK!
You’re right, what a valid, clever strategy.
I generally don’t care if I lose. You know why? IT’S A GAME. My life does not depend on winning. Hell, I even let my girlfriend or my younger sister beat me occasionally. I play with friends, with the intention of having fun, and generally manage to have it, regardless of my choice of character, or theirs. No one bitches about unfairness or imbalance either, because it’s a game, and has no bearing on anything. What to you get when you win using your great strategy up above? Bragging rights? Congratulations.
Sakurai made the game the way he did because he doesn’t like elitist assholes like you ruining everyone’s good time. I personally didn’t like that they cut Mewtwo. He was my third favorite character in Melee (uh oh, he’s low tier, guess that makes me a n00b!!1!1), but did I sit around bitching and complaining to anyone who’ll listen about it? Nope. I accepted it, and enjoy the game for what it is.

                1. never said it was a hard strategy, but if my opponent is stupid enough to pick a character that something like this works on, and they get caught in it, then its their fault and damn right i’m gonna use it on em. don’t get grabbed or STFU, or pick a someone who isn’t underpowered/has a flaw like this that can work on em.

I could care less if you don’t like it, if you are stupid enough to pick a weak character and end up getting punished by something like this, its your own fault.

What I don’t understand is why idiots liek you try to sweep stuff like this under the rug and say “oh well you aren’t supposed to do something like that/its not fair so don’t do it.” if anything you should be bitching at sakurai to make sure stuff like this doesn’t appear in the next game, quit complaining at the people using it to their advantage

Don’t hate the players, hate the game. Shit like this is in the game because sakurai didn’t playtest brawl enough, if we find it, we’re gonna use it. And as I said before, unless its so gamebreaking that it literally takes out the entire cast/makes the character who can perform stuff like this unbeatable by anyone(which like i said before, marths CG release on ness and lucas doesn’t, since it only works on those two.) its fair. suck it up and get better or pick a better character, regardless, don’t start bitching when someone comes alone with the intention of winning and uses a tactic against you that you can’t beat.

                2. oh and BTW, let me make it clear since it must be something you missed

fun is subjective, just cuz your idea of fun is mashing buttons like a madman in luck based item ffa matches where the winner is determined almost exclusively by luck, doesn’t mean everyone finds that fun.

                  1. First off, just to get this out of the way, it’s ‘idiots LIKE you’, not ‘idiots LIEK you’. That’s the second time you’ve done that. You should learn to type correctly, as it makes you seem uneducated.

Now then, on to the problem at hand; so you expect me to not choose a character that I like simply because there are certain cheap exploits you can use to beat them? I’ve already told you that I don’t really care if I lose, haven’t I?
It’s been a while since I played, but if I remember correctly, Ness and Zelda could both spam their d-tilts to get the opponents to ridiculous percentages in Melee, because the attacks were so fast it could be difficult to fight back. So these things were going on even in Melee.

But what’s the point of arguing this anymore anyway? You’re not going to listen, all you’ll do is reply that I’m a n00b because I like to play as characters that I like(gasp!),
and continue to make yourself sound like a damn 10 year old. Bottom line is; I don’t care if you could beat me. So what? I can beat my friends, and I can beat level 9’s, that’s all I really need to beat.

                    1. mmm…..lol u can’t beat ness and zelda dtilt spam? yeah…u keep proving more and more how crappy you are at the games, as neither of those really work unless the opponent sucks, you can get out of both of those fairly easily without taking a crap load of damage.

first off you’re the one who’s been acting like a ten year old the whole conversation, the whole time this has been going on it was from your childish attitude that started the whole thing.

I expect you not to bitch and complain when these exploits are used on you, because you picked a shitty character that has stuff like this that screws them over, and if all you do is complain when these exploits are used on your character, then either stfu and deal with it, or pick someone that doesn’t have something stupid like this that can be used against em, once again, though, if you are gonna use the character you “like” to play as, if they have something dumb like this that can be used on em, suck it up and deal with it, its not your opponents problem that you picked a crappy character, why should they hold back on you because you picked a shitty character?

as for my little spelling error sir grammar nazi, seriously, do you honestly think I care that typed fast and mixed two letters up in a word? I could care less, I don’t feel like going back and changing a spelling mistake when its two letters off simply done because I typed something up too fast. You act like this is some sort of essay for your school or something where u have to have perfect grammar, if that is the case go look up to practically every last comment above mine and start going on your perfect grammar raid on the comments from everyone else.

                      1. Lol no. When did I ever say that I couldn’t? I meant that it CAN be difficult for newer players. I got hung up on it a few times when I was first getting into Melee, but I was 11, so who the fuck cares? It didn’t cost me the match, it was just annoying.
But you are proving more and more why Sakurai hates you guys. You’re just an elitist douche.
Also I find it hilarious that you fags ban stages and items, and even certain characters, because they provide an “unfair advantage”. But I guess using glitches and exploits is called having “skillz”.
And, once again, the only one here who needs to suck anything up is you. I’ve said, how many times now, that I DON’T CARE IF I LOSE. If you have to resort to using damn glitches and exploits to beat someone, but will fucking whine your annoying little ass off if someone wants to play with items, or God forbid, on a stage besides Final Destination, then it just goes to show that you can only win by not playing the game the way it was meant to be played, and that’s just sad, dude. So, again, I will continue to pick characters that I enjoy playing as, like Ganondorf, and Wolf, and motherfucking Mewtwo, no matter their position on the tier list, and I will continue NOT to be a tourneyfag who whines and bitches on every post they can find about Super Smash Bros. about how Brawl is so damn unbalanced. Suck it the fuck up, and drag your basement-dwelling ass back to Smashboards, and BAWWW there, because no one else gives a fuck.

                        P.S. http://encyclopediadramatica.ch/Tourneyfag
It’s pretty sad how accurate this article is.

                  2. do us a favor casual fag and reply to the bottom somewhere.

btw just an FYI, only the brawl smash players really use glitches, bc they can’t find any other way to squeeze any depth from the PoS. Melee players have never had to resort to abusing glitches like mad to give the game any depth.

mmm ok tell you what i’ll pick temple and new pork against ya, then get one kill and run away the entire match with a faster character(which since you use gannondork, that pretty much means anyone)

guess what? just won the match effortlessly, wasn’t a thing you could do. Wanna know why? cuz these stages are piss poorly designed stages, hence the reason competitive players ban em, items are the same way, we get rid of em becasue all they do is determine matches based on LUCK, and we’re not trying to measure who got more lucky dumbass.

go on back to mashing buttons like a moron casualfag, just remember though, even 90% of the causal bitches like you who’ve ruined gaming can’nt stand how imbalanced lolbrawl is, and especially any ganondorf players, so while you don’t mind mashing buttons like a retard and having your character essentially be a punching bag, doesn’t mean everyone wants that.

you little tards are the people who all other gamers can’t stand, wanting all games today to be watered down shells of their former selves, just so your granny can waggle a remote with you at the screen.

I find your description on how you think we consider all these exploits and glitches “skillz” at most the brawl community who uses these considers em advanced techs, i.e more options to use in a match, not skills, dumbass.

the honest truth is every last competitive player around wouldn’t even bother using any advanced moves or techs on you, all they’d do is sit there and watch you roll around like an idiot the whole time, spamming smashes hoping they’d hit, and simply avoid the smashes, and predict and punish for rolling the whole time

you could know all the advanced techs/glitches/exploits whatever you wanna call em in the game, and it wouldn’t matter, a casualfag bitch like yourself would still be easy to read and predict, i haven’t found a single one of you twats that talk shit on the competitive scene and claim they “have to use glitches to win” who didn’t roll around like a retard the whole match and pretty much left themselves open to be easily punished the entire time, WITHOUT needing to use a single exploit or glitch or w/e every last competitive player would just read your predictable pattern like a fucking book and simply slaughter you with the most basic of moves.

                    1. I facepalm to you.

I fear that you’ve been helping the tourneyfags in making SSB a competitive sport or even a job. Why can’t you even get a life?

You reply by calling those with good reason “dumbasses” because they opoose YOUR opinion. (Superiority complex is you.) AND you talk about Smash like a douchebag, like “I can beat you with X and Y on Z…blah, blah, blah”. You just typed that without any effort. IT WAS A FAILED EFFORT TO SOUND LIKE A PRO. You sound just like Axman13.

You’re trying to insult the gaming community in general with your being a douchebag, now do them a favor and leave. Besides, games are meant to be PLAYED, not to become MONEY MACHINES.

PS: I main Ness because I just want to. Just in case you know.

    23. YES! It’s finally begun! The development for…..a new SSB title! well, a demo for kid icarus uprising is bound to be coming within a few weeks. either way, i loved brawl, and I’m hoping to get my hands on this upcoming game for my 3ds. GO JAPAN! (im american, and i wish hatsune miku was sold in america. :-|)

    24. @whoever that Anonymous guy was.

      wtf are you talking about?

the pros didn’t “dominate” the whole game of melee, they didn’t even effect you in the slightest, no pro player ever walked up to your door and told you “this is how you have to play” and went on to slaughter you in a match.

    25. oh and one more thing to the troll up top, why they hell are you complaining to the players using this stuff on you? complain to the developers so shit like this won’t appear in the next game.

      once again….

Don’t Hate the player, hate the game.

      1. Maybe you are this so called “troll”. You don’t understand that I just enjoy Melee just as much as I like the first game AND Brawl.

If I was to make a fighting game that plays similar to Super Smash Bros, I’ll make sure it never goes through this kind of tournament play. I’ll deem it illegal. Casual tournaments are fine.

But the competitive tournaments; I hear they go way too far. I’ve never been to one, but Melee was supposed to cater to newcomers AND veterans. When Super Smash Bros. crossovers my game, competitive tournaments will also be illegal. Only casual tournaments are allowed. Oh, and no tiers, please. I want everyone to treat all characters equally.

I love the games. No way could I even hate them. I make a mistake? Only my fault. Not the game’s.

      1. Lol U Mad, bro?

Man, with every reply you just get more pathetic.
I love how you seem to think that I only use Ganondorf. Even though I just mentioned Wolf and Mewtwo in the last post. I’m also quite good with Shiek, Marth, Fox, and Falco. And the whole running away thing doesn’t take any skill or finesse, nor does it prove a point; it just makes you a pussy. Even in Melee, it wasn’t particularly hard to avoid Bowser or Ganondorf, on any stage, so what point do you think this proves?
“Advanced techs”, huh? That’s hilarious. You faggots think items break the game, but you’re just fine with using damn glit-er, sorry, “advanced techs” to win a match. Hilarious.
And CASUAL gamers are the ones killing gaming? LOL.
Sakurai just got tired of hearing you assgoblins brag about pwning n00bs.
What makes you think I’m a casual gamer? I may be a casual smasher, sure, but that doesn’t mean I’m a casual gamer in general.
You talk about playing with the intention to win. Why else would anyone play? The point is, that if you die because you got hit with a bomb or whatever, you don’t piss, moan, bitch, get butthurt, and throw a temper tantrum like a 3 year old, you suck it up, grow a pair, and move on to the next match. Items and stages make things interesting. They make it so that anyone can have a lucky break and win. Don’t like it, wanna turn items off, and ban certain stages, that’s fine, but don’t preach at those of us who play video games to have fun, and don’t take the damn game way too seriously. Get a fucking life.

        1. well then here’s a hint;

don’t preach to us about playing the game competitively and having fun doing so.

whole reason this whole argument started? you were too narrow minded to just accept that some folks like to play games competitively, without LUCK(as you even admitted in your last post) being a factor.

btw, I already told you, all the “glitches” and phyics exploits are pretty much in brawl, he whole reason being that the game didn’t have any depth without em.

melee players have never had to rely on glitches and only a handful of physics exploits, the rest of the reason it was considered such an amazing competitive game is purely from the fact that its gameplay and physics were just overal better then lolbrawls. and so was its character balance. And lo and behold, that brings me back to the original reason why i stated we competitive players don’t want another glitchy shallow game like brawl; we don’t want another disappointment.

          1. No, the whole reason this argument got started was that you got involved, plain and simple. I was replying to M16’s posts, this had nothing to do with you. M16 doesn’t believe that Brawl is a “real Smash game” or some such shit, and I disagreed with him, and you apparently got butthurt because I said that spamming the same move over and over is cheap or something, and had to make your voice heard. I never said that you shouldn’t play the game however the fuck you want to play it, I merely said that not everyone cares that it’s not as well balanced as Melee. I don’t have to worry about the Ice Climbers chain grab, because no one I play with even likes the Ice Climbers. I was under the impression that only tourneygoers who know about the chaingrabs and such would bother to play them. Nor do I have to worry about Marth’s chain grab, because I never use Ness or Lucas. Even when I play Marth against Ness or Lucas, I still wouldn’t use it, as I still consider it cheap. That’s just me. I don’t edgehog either, though. The bottom line is, even though Brawl has many faults, it also has strengths. And if you can’t see them, then that’s your problem.

    26. I really hope the 3DS Smash Bros. and the Wii U version both have a few of their own unique characters. Obviously characters like Mario or Kirby would probably be in both, but maybe have it so only the 3DS one gets Pit while the Wii U one gets Ice Climbers. I could see this being really good for the brand new characters.

And some people (understandably) would not like having not having some awesome character on the 3DS version when they have the Wii U one. I think it would be cool if you could import a version-specific character from 1 game to the other to make up for it, but maybe have it be a temporary importation. It would give it a Pokemon style feel (GOTTA TRADE ‘EM ALL) that would keep the game-specific base rosters lower (I felt Brawl’s roster was humongulous) but still include many varied characters total.

    27. (In a whiny tone) “No gimmicky luck based items, no broken stages (only FD), and no excuses! Oh, and of course, only Fox!”
Also, it’s funny that you’re an elitist tourneyfag, your mom and I prefer to play casual. ; )

    28. Whos Hype? Im Hype!!! Yes Buddyyyyy!!! Sakurai is flee guy from now on…… :D Hope it comes out this year :D Super Smash Bros is the best series in the entire world.

    29. I want sora and riku for smb4. Sora’s final smash could be his final form. I don’t know for riku, also I just thought of this…. In team battles, couldn’t there be a team final smash? (Ex: Mario and Luigi standing together to blast out a giant stream of fire.)

    30. I really hope that he get’s the team who is working on the Project M mod for Brawl to do this Next game.

Maybe we could give him some great ideas to go off of to make sure that the next Smash doesn’t turn out to be a turn-off to either the for-fun or for-victory crowds.
