  1. How the hell did Portal 2 win an award for story!? Yeah, it’s great game, but it’s story was almost non-existent.

      1. You stole the words right out of my mouth. I love that game but seriously? The only dialogue an if you can call it story are in the parts when you’re going from chamber to chamber

    1. Why, because it didn’t spoil you rotten with overly indulgent cutscenes? The story in Portal 2 works so well on many more levels than most other stories in video games.

  2. Nintendo never win anything at these awards. I seriously seriously think theres some kind of secret dislike towards Nintendo games. Go to any awards ceremony for video games and I bet Nintendo will win nothing or at the very least one tiny award. It’s utter crap.

On the other hands I AM SO GLAD Skyrim didn’t win a single reward! That game is overhyped trash. And COD MW3 didnt get a single award either. So pleased

    1. true maybe because the hardware is bad graphics, im not hatting wii, it may be for that that the people judge them.

    2. i dont know guys but my mind goes to pacher for that.i think pacher has to do something for that…but i dont have any proofs so i cant blame him if i dont know,…

  3. *Sigh*
Saw this coming really. Actually surprised Portal 2 won best game, since that behemoth called Skyrim seems to be everywhere. Not that I’m hating on it, it’s just a bit too ubiquitous.

    1. Skyrims great, but i think it’s not a game that deserved the awards it received because of the lag issues i encountered with it.
Skyward sword would of gotten my vote for best game, but als, it did not.

Surprisingly, i’m actually pleased with these results.
Nintendo did deserve one for Zelda however.

  4. I am very surprised that Peggle HD beat out Super Mario 3D Land.

More importantly, why are the handheld and mobile categories fused?

    1. yes really. That one actually makes alot of sense. Are you serious? Do you know how LBP works?

      Its BASED off of innovation…

      1. but so was the first one. That’s the issue here. It is a great game, but it was almost more of an upgrade, a great upgrade, but an upgrade nonetheless.

              1. Wow… just simply stupid.

Britain and America are nations NOT races.

Also for lots of people saying this, Islam is a Religion NOT a race.

People need to understand the definition of race instead of saying America (A nation) and Hinduism (A religion) are not races.

  5. I have played some of these games. The awards here are just as much bullshyt as the American Oscar Awards.

    1. The Oscars this year were disappointing. Fucking Hugo looked like a really stupid movie, and it stole the whole show. And another thing, HOW THE HELL DID RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES NOT WIN BEST SPECIAL EFFECTS?!?!?!?!?! IT WAS THE SAME PEOPLE WHO DID THE CGI FOR AVATAR FFS!!!!!!!!!!!! It was also a really good movie otherwise and i’m shocked it didn’t have more nominations.

      1. +1

This years movie oscars are going to be intresting. Lots of movies getting released/release.

To bad Star Trek 2 was delayed until next year :/

  6. everybody thinks the japanese market is doomed now. In my opinion they still get the best developers, games and concepts. Not saying nintendo should win every category, but my favourite games of this year is not on this list…

    I would have included

    Story: Uncharted 3.
Mobile & Handheld: Super Mario 3D Land
GAME Award of 2011 Zelda: Skyward Sword
    Artistic Achievement: Zelda: Skyward Sword
    Online Multiplayer: Dark Souls

  7. lol, the only good Nintendo game to come out in Britland was Skyward Sword. And besides, the majority of Britland people are wellfare motherfuckers, that wouldn’t even go out and buy a nintendo game because they just sit around and pirate it.

  8. You guys are being slightly ridiculous. Due to your outrage, I mist assume most of you are children. No game Nintendo released this year deserved any awards. Its about time you guys wake up and see that.

    1. Really? Not a game(Skyward Sword) that possibly beats what many consider the best game of all time(Ocarina of Time)?

Not saying it should have won something, but also saying that it wasn’t worthy either is silly.

        1. How so? I’ve played Ocarina of Time after beating Skyward Sword, and let me just say it hasn’t aged all too well. It’s still a great game, don’t get me wrong, but it’s way too overrated. My personal favorite would be Majora’s Mask but Skyward Sword is a close 2nd, with Ocarina of Time a close third.

    2. “No game Nintendo released this year deserved any awards” Ehh….. Skyward Sword & Super Mario 3D Land say hi.

      1. Most innovative ? What for ? For bringing the concepts of already existing games together ? For me, it was a mix of Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Bros., nothing more. I wouldn’t call that innovative. It’s bringing together old concepts.

  9. Oooh here’s your fanboy comment saying that Nintendo is doomed and that their games suck and that they keep doing the same things.

Seriously though. There’s too much bias against Nintendo within the industry itself. So fuck it. From now on I’ll just play the games I like (which mainly means Nintendo for sure) and not care about all that nonsense. I think everyone should just do the same.

  10. I think the winners did all deserve to win.
Just because Nintendo didn’t win anything it doesn’t mean BAFTA is unfair or something. It’s “video game” awards after all, not Nintendo-has-to-win-everything-doesn’t-matter-if-there’s-anything-better-which-is-not-the-case-because-Nintendo-is-always-the-best-awards.
That’s how the people voted and yea… Just accept it.

  11. Well, I AM glad that Rayman Origins got the award for Artistic Achievement. While I would definitely defend the Impressionist style of Skyward Sword (not to discredit what Twilight Princess did well, btw), what was done with the UbiArt Framework in Rayman Origins really opens the door to what can be done in games visually. Instead of the artist being at the mercy of the interface, an interface like this serves the artist.

I do call BS on LBP2 getting the innovation award, though. Also, while the soundtrack definitely fits L.A. Noire, not a single song in that game can even touch the Xenoblade Chronicles soundtrack.

Which reminds me, Xenoblade Chronicles was released in Europe within the nomination year! Why did that game not get a single award?! I understand Skyward Sword isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but that covers the other end of the spectrum. The only thing it doesn’t do is output in HD (w/o Dolphin assistance, anyway), and I don’t think that warrants an exclusion. And don’t say it’s because it came out in Japan the year before, because that’s would be an incredibly stupid reason.

  12. I don’t think Super Mario 3D Land deserves any awards, but I do think Skyward Sword deserved at least best story. I loved Portal 2, but it’s story was almost non existant compared to Skyward Sword. Skyward Sword’s story was amazing.

    1. Just because Skyward Sword actually parades its story to the forefront unlike other Zelda games, doesn’t mean its story automatically beats other stories like Portal 2’s. Portal 2 does what most games refuse to do: integrate the story into the gameplay, as opposed to breaking it up into sections (ie gameplay then cutscene, gameplay then cutscene, gameplay then cutscene…)

    1. i stop taking any awards serious a long time ago, although its still annoying when games that should obviously win, don’t. but if i like a game i’ll play it, if everyone doesn’t like the game then its their loss.

  13. >Design: Portal 2
    >GAME Award of 2011 (Public voted one): Battlefield 3
    >Family: Little Big Planet 2
    >Sports/Fitness: Kinect Sports Season 2.

    Bullshit.

    1. Portal 2 wining Design was correct completely. but the rest of what you said shouldn’t have won those.

HOW has Battlefield 3 WON best game of year?

Seriously it makes me think all people play is war FPS and nothing else. It thought Skyrim or Portal 2 would win best game.

      1. Most people do play FPS buzz, that’s why were getting overflooded with them. ive played BF3, and its not a bad game but its no GOatay either.

but hey, in the end all that matters are our personal preferences in games and what we play.

  14. This is disappointing (for Nintendo, I mean, not so much for the other companies here), but I’m not surprised at all. Nintendo pretty much got what it deserved when it decided to not go the extra mile in 2011 and even in recent months. For those who actually think that most of the listed games do not deserve to be the winners of their respective categories, I’m guessing you either have never played those games, played them with a clear prejudice against them for not being Nintendo-made, or you just simply refuse to accept good quality games because your idea of good quality constantly has to take higher priority and thus shoves all other good things out of the way. The bright side is that we can expect much better (and more quantity for once) games when the Wii U emerges.

  15. I just played Portal 2 again last night. I love that game so much.

If you look at the categories, Nintendo arguably didn’t really deserve to win any of the awards. I’d say the Game Innovation award could have gone to Zelda, if anything, but other than that there just weren’t too many Nintendo games that pushed the envelope last year.

      1. why? cos the “gye” has a different opinion to you? most people who have a wii have either a 360 or ps3 to enjoy games you can’t get on wii. stop being such a fanboy and maybe then people would stop taking the piss out of you. also this “gye” has spent money on nintendo, so has the right to an opinion.

  16. This is absolute bullshit !! Some nintendo’s greatest game came out last year with brilliant ratings

  17. Honestly i think its completely unfair to put the 3DS and iPad in the same category, two completely different experiences, one being a more casual big fun toy, while the other being a gaming machine with actual gaming controls. it is not right to put them together, also Super Mario 3D Land is a platformer while Peggle HD is a puzzle Game, again totally unfair.

  18. Xenoblade Chronicles dumps over most these games listed, but didn’t win anything, what a bunch of morons these BAFTA idiots are.

  19. I have a distinct feeling that with GAME’s lack of fortune recently and impending buyout/takeover, there won’t be a ‘GAME Award of 2012’.

But Peggle for best handheld/mobile game, really? Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 are way superior for obvious reasons. And of all the mobile games I’ve played, I would not particularly recommend that one to win any awards.
