WW2, Japan And Egypt Are “The Three Worst Settings For Assassins Creed”

Alex Hutchinson, the creative director of Assassins Creed 3, has told the official Xbox magazine that fans online are suggesting some of the worst settings for Assassins Creed possible. The settings that are suggested the most are World War 2, Japan and Egypt. Hutchinson isn’t a fan of any of these but suggests that India could be a good setting.

“People on the internet suggest the most boring settings,” Hutchinson mused when we asked him whether he’d considered certain hotly demanded alternatives. “The three most wanted are WWII, feudal Japan and Egypt. They’re kind of the three worst settings for an AC game.”
Hutchinson has time for India, at least. “[Assassin’s Creed 3 writer Corey May] really wants to do India, ” he told us, less the square brackets. “I would too. I’d really love to do the Raj.”

    1. I disagree. Fuedal Japan doesn’t seem right to me for an Assassin’s Creed game at all for some reason.

  1. Japan could work if they do it right. WW2 won’t work because too much guns kinda ruins the feel of the AC games. I think Egypt could work, just make it a storyline about a secret society of assassins, killing members of the royal family and enemies to the throne.

    Leave luck to heaven.

    1. Quote “Japan could work if they do it right.” & “just make it a storyline about a secret society of assassins, killing members of the royal family and enemies to the throne”.

What u said could work for Japan also. A secret society of Assassins? Ninjas Hattatori? Killing Damiyo’s, Regents, General, or even the shogun? It would work well during Feudal Japan.

      : ) HK

    1. so i googled “feudal Japan” to see if i’d agree with this and got weird inuyasha fanart
      what a world

  2. Finally, someone with the balls to admit that sometimes fans can be outright stupid. Good for you Hutchinson.

  3. Egypt and Japan could have worked well if they thought of an epic story line.

WW2 just will destroy the AC atmothere.

    Now you’re playing with power.

  4. I don’t think India is a good place – it is too asthetically similar to Turkey (Specificaly Constantinopal in Revelations).

Honestly I think a rainforest are such as the mediteranian areas would be better (although he could mean the more exotic sides of India).

I also have to say Japan would be great, maybe not Feudal Japan (As I can see the cliche in it to make it seem like an obvious/boring answer) but the country itself is very diverse with some pretty spectacular places, settings and time periods.

    1. The Bakumatsu Japan( the periodwho all the Ninja and Samurai tropes born) would be amazing, there is foreing Influence(the french in Hokkaido aka the possible templars) the the dutch, british and german in the Imperial Court.

But Again the make in the most unlike Scenario… the American Revolutionary war(no offense but looks like fanservice for the U.S people),

  5. Japan is boring because so many freakin assassin type games have already utilized it as a setting. That is some seriously mundane imagination those fans got right there.

WWII again has also been used a million times in a million games, even though they were not assassin games.

    India could definitely work though.

But no, the best setting for the next game should just be with Desmond’s own setting.

    1. Exactly Japan is completely over done. I also agree with the “Desmond’s own setting” thing. I’ve only played two of the four games but it seems like the story is leading up to Desmond having his own personal fight against the present age Templars.

  6. seriously think about it. what the hell would you do in egypt? run on pyramids and then in the desrt? there really inst much you can do in egypt. plus there isnt any interesting history in egypt anyway. same with japan. there isn’t anything exciting that happened within japan to warrant an assassins creed game. assassins creed games center around real tings that happened and those setting have nothing to offer in terms of excitement.

    1. Are you crazy? What about the Roman invasion of Egypt? That could be a good setting for AC. Feudal Japan is a perfect setting for assassins. You know the place where ninja and samurai come from? Learn some history, man.

      1. its not about the history as much as the location. like he said what are you gonna do, climb pyramids? ninjas are cool but personally i think they’re kinda played out just as ww2.

    2. Nothing interesting happened in Japan?

What about the 50 year long war for unification?
      Feudal disputes?
      Totoyomi’s Invasion of Korea?

A lot of Feudal Japan lords of prominence, and retairners who died of natural causes, have at least one rumor of an assassination being the actual cause. Takeda Shingen and Uesugi Kenshin for example.

I can agree that this setting is used over and over again, and there couldn’t be much new stuff to do with it, but to say that nothing interested happened there is outright hilarious.

Plus all the political struggles in Feudal Japan would be PERFECT for this type of game.

    1. it resembles the previous AC games, and the rest donot really put into affect the setting, surroundings. India is just another flavor im guessing, but i could totally see it being made.
