Super Mario Wii U Will Be Based On New Super Mario Bros Demo From E3 2011

Nintendo has revealed that the new Super Mario game for Wii U will be based on the New Super Mario Bros demo that we saw at last years E3 event. The New Super Mario Bros game for Wii U will therefore be a 2D game fashioned in a similar style to the Nintendo DS and Wii titles.

“In a recent interview, Mr. Miyamoto confirmed that a new Super Mario Bros. game for the Wii U system will be shown at this year’s E3 Expo. This is based on the Mario experience that was demonstrated at last year’s E3 Expo. We’ll have more to announce about our plans for the E3 Expo at a later date.”

    1. ”Fail!! you fucking idiot! Nintendo is doomed since his born HAHAHAHAHA” that is what a troll would say but…We all ready know that Ninty is the BOSS in the videogames.

      1. Careful man, I made a similar joke and a bunch of people jumped down my throat thinking I was serious. Trolls get away with it, but us real fans making fun of them dont :(

    1. Don’t worry, it’s on the way, too.
3D Mario games take more time. It’s coming, but it’s not as near as this one.

    2. give them time, i was worried this would be a proper adventure, because if it was then it wouldnt have had full development time on it

    3. I guess you guys are right. Besides, considering that the last gen Wiis are being bundled with NSMW, it may pull more people into the Wii U. But that’s just me.

    4. 2d mario sells more than 3d mario it makes scene why they do it, also i like the way they use 2d mario on wii u in e3 2011.

    5. You know, if they are using the “Mario Experience” that they showed last E3, who’s to say they won’t also be using the “Zelda Experience” Demo for the future Zelda Wii U?
This proves they are willing to recycle this material they said that was purely for demonstration purposes.

    1. Well maybe it means that its based off of the idea that you can play with Miis in a Mario game and not necessarily the fact that it was side-scrolling.

    2. Agreed. I’m not liking the route Nintendo is taking with Mario games. The NSMB games wee dissappointments in my mind, and Mario 3D Land was more of that. We need a proper 3D adventure like 64 and Galaxy.

      1. The first NSMB on DS was fine and I liked it. The Wii one, not so much. 3D Land was also good. Since i’m not really excited for this, i’m definitely getting Aliens as my launch game with my Wii U (if it is a launch title like i’m expecting it to be anyway).

  1. A little disappointed, but considering it’ll largely be based of the Wii version, it’s pretty much assured to be a launch title, which is good.

  2. Ehhh I think you got it wrong. The article you referenced do not say that the new mario game will be based on the mario bros wii u demo.

  3. I’m not disappointed. The side scrolling Mario games are awesome. I see this as a concerted effort on Nintendo’s part to ease new users into the Wii U. By giving them an easy pick up and play Mario game to familiarize them with the Wii U and its controls. So instead of it being Mario 64 the went all the way back to the original Super Mario Bros. If you have enough controllers the whole family can enjoy this game together.

    Leave luck to heaven.

    1. I agree. Super Mario work was the best( side scroll) infuse these two and it will be a golden launch title

    2. 100% with you there. Its a great throwback to Super Mario 3 and Mario World. I can’t help but thinking of those games when I play it. And they have great level designs.

  4. this part: “We’ll have more to announce about our plans for the E3 Expo at a later date.” is interesting. Maybe we’ll get a Nintendo Direct dedicated to Wii U before E3? or maybe (likely) they’ll announce something during IR meeting on the 26th. Worst case scenario, we have to wait 49 days (E3) to get any concrete news, which isn’t bad, considering how long we’ve gone without any tidbits.

    1. I think since this is more of a lesser surprise, they felt it’s better to do it now then to have it mix with eveything else.

  6. It’s a given that it’ll be fun, and I suppose in a way it’s nice that they’re getting an NSMB out the way early.
Means in a couple of years we’ll see some true new innovation in a 3D Mario Platformer. I doubt they’d of had time to have something of the standards of “Super Mario Galaxy” for launch, so I’m content to accept some less ground breaking yet familiar fun Mario platforming at launch, and I have hopes Nintendo will announce several high key games at E3 to make NSMBWiiU a mere stepping stone in the release calendar :)

    1. see now thats exactly as i thought,if ninty plays their cards right many doubters will be put on hush mode.
NINTENDO= the wiley old vet in this game industry

  7. Also, that NSMB engine is AMAZING. I’m not disappointed at all. I’d take a platformer where you play as a pile of dog crap that collects corn if it was made with that engine.

  8. I honestly have to say that the Wii and DS 2D platformers didn’t hook me as good as the older ones. Can’t guarantee I’ll buy this one, I’m looking forward to the 3D platformer though

  9. @All the people who are disappointed:

    You all disappoint me.
Seriously, a 3D game is on the way, so have patience. While you wait, there will be an awesome oldschool 2D game for you!!

  10. But a 2D Mario Platformer is confirmed for 3DS? Maybe it will be the same game for both consoles, with a linked online mode? If they do this then I will be so happy! If there’s no online then I really am kinda disappointed at the news.

      1. You realize how awesome an online mode for SMB would be? It could be co-op campaign, or even a racing to the finish line system! And you could do more than 4 players, plus the screen could focus just on you and wouldn’t be restricted to all 4 players at once.

          1. Or even team battles with 2 or 4 players on each console making each team. That way, each team has to stay together(Screen restrictions) and each team could try to race to the finish. Talk about some awesome competition possibilities!

  11. Hmm, I’m not sure about this.
2D platformers are old news now. I was hoping for something more… 3D tbh.

    1. Old news my ass. Hell, by that logic, 3D platformers are also old news, given how long they’ve been around too.

  12. i hope this game has online coop that would be so funny bouncing off my friends’ heads in the game over the internet lol

  13. Reggie kicks your ass

This is great news. 2D mario sells way more than 3d mario so it would be smart to launch a console with it.

  14. I’m not disappointed by this at all. I wonder if this could be Super Mario Bros. 4 or a new entry in the New Super Mario Bros. series.

  16. I don’t know, man. If it’s anything like the demo they showed at E3, it’s going to be small enough to be a downloadable game. Sounds like it should be preinstalled on the console at launch. I can’t imagine ever paying full price for something that would take such limited resources to make. And in no way could a game like that take up any significant amount of retail disc space.

Throw me in the pile of disappointed.

  17. If the 2D Mario game on 3DS ends up being Super Mario Bros. 4, it would be great if both games had level editors and you could share between them. It would be a good test drive for similar functionality in the next Smash Bros. games.

  18. Even though it would probably be based on New Super Mario Bros Wii, there’s gonna be a few new things. I get the official nintendo magazine every month and in one issue it said that you could play as your Mii,

  30. Undeniably consider that which you stated. Your favourite justification seemed to be on the net the easiest thing to understand of. I say to you, I definitely get irked at the same time as folks consider worries that they just don’t know about. You controlled to hit the nail upon the highest and defined out the entire thing without having side-effects , other folks can take a signal. Will likely be back to get more. Thank you
