Nintendo Hints At Christmas Release For Wii U

One thing that was apparent at the investors meeting was Nintendo president Satoru Iwata’s talk about the “year-end sales season” when mentioning Wii U. Nintendo already clarified that it has no plans to reveal the Wii U release date or pricing until after E3 in June. When Wii launched in North America in 2006, Nintendo confirmed the launch details in September. There’s a distinct possibility that the company may do the same with Wii U.

“I believe that you are most interested in the details of the Wii U. Since the Wii U will be launched in Japan, the U.S., Europe and Australia in the year-end sales season… as we did for previous platforms that were launched in the year-end sales season, we will announce the launch date and price in each market sometime after E3.”

  1. SO EXCITED!! But still, having to wait until the end of the year will crush my soul and grind it down to soul dust D:
And about the release date, wasn’t that a typo? I’m pretty sure I saw a lot of gaming sites re-report that the release date WILL be announce at E3 :D

  2. smart move I guess. christmas will definitely boost sales, but what about us impatient gamers who want this beast RIGHT NOW!

  3. I don’t buy into this rumor. Im betting it’ll release in October. That gives them time to gauge supply and demand issues for Christmas.

  4. You guys better start saving your money right now. You’re gonna be broke as fuck this Christmas. And you’ll love every minute of it.

    Leave luck to heaven.

  5. Smart idea. It’s an attempt to make a successful launch, by launching when their consoles sell the best. Good move!

    1. Didn’t work for the vita, and I fear without the wiiU being in common knowledge for months beforehand, it won’t work for the wiiU.

I predict wiiU won’t see it’s first realy chrismas sales till 2013.

      1. Vita was released in February in America. And the holiday season isn’t necessarily the best time of year for Sony, at least not by a large margin like Nintendo.

  6. Nintendo Gamecube release date: November 18, 2001
Nintendo Wii release date: November 19, 2006
The Nintendo Wii U will probably release on the third Sunday of November. That seems to be the trend.

    1. Which is Nov 18th, which I believe that rumor to have the correct date. Any further and they could lose more sales if it sells like the Wii.

  7. The idea of releasing it during christmas will be a nightmare for parents, adults and teens since we all know during christmas we tend to over spend on gift for family members and we know how crazy people get during the christmas season in stores remember the Tickle me Elmo incidents? :(. I don’t want to hear in the news ” A fight breaks out over the last WiiU at Toys r US today and police had to use force to stop the fight”

      1. Well I don’t know where you live Nintendopie but I been to several Launches of Nintendo and Xbox’s and never seen a fight here in nyc. I do agree with you

        1. I’m talking about Holidays and such. Launches aren’t that crazy, Black Friday and the Week before Christmas are.

  8. I can guarantee they’re not going to launch the Wii U in December. It’s going to be between September through very early November.

Look at what happened at the launch of the Wii. It was so wildly popular, retailers were almost constantly sold out for a couple of months. If retailers don’t have enough units for the Christmas season because of the huge demand, people will have no choice but to buy some other gifts and Nintendo will lose out on the prime sales opportunity.

If they launch it a few months early, not only will they get a good idea of how the Xmas sales will be, they will have enough units for the people who are going to buy the season at launch, regardless of the holiday season AND have enough time to manufacture enough units for the main holiday season.

In general, it’s better to spread out sales over a longer period of time than to sell a whole bunch in a short period of time and then not sell so much the rest of the time.

  9. Nintendo: “delivering another X-mas with more schizophrenic kids “a la” … NINTENDO SIXTY FAAAAAWWWWWRRR!!!!!!! YES! YES! THANK YOUUUUUU OMGGGGGGGG!!! … since 1985″

  10. Hope it is a christmas release, that’s what will get them the most sales, it’s definitely worth waiting for as the thing is, when a console is released there’s a hype around it that only lasts so long before it dies down. Then at christmas you have people buying gifts and stuff they wouldn’t buy normally. If the hype coincides with the christmas people, you get lots of people buying this brand new hyped Wii U as a gift, and they probably wouldn’t have done so otherwise. If it’s released too early, the hype dies down before christmas and it doesn’t have as much of an effect

  11. Dev’s don’t have the Wireless controllers yet… So yeah, Nintendo’s hardware isn’t even finished.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the project get’s pushed back to 2013.

Nintendo better get their fucking asses in gear. Get the hardware out. Get it out working Correctly. Get software out with it. And stop making promises for shit that is so far down the road you can’t see the headlights yet.

Announcing Wii U LAST E3 was a huge fucking mistake. It’s like the 3DS’ first firmware update, it took FOREVER because the 3DS was launched half-assed.

Nintendo. Sort out your shit. The other consoles will pass you up before you leave the starting line. (You’ll lose your head start anyway.)

  12. What REALLY pisses me off, is Nintendo can make superior hardware. Some greedy bastard wanted to squeeze one more year of life out of the Wii.

Wii U should have been launched late last year, or this summer.

Whatever, as long as Nintendo makes enough to stay alive, and keeps producing creative shit, I guess it’s fine, but they are not living up to their full potential.
