Patent Shows Off Wii U Zapper

A patent has been uncovered via Engadget that shows the Wii U Zapper that was featured in the Wii U unveiling video at last years E3. We should see the final form of both the Wii U Zapper and the Wii U console at E3 which takes place in LA next month.

    1. I don’t think it looks dumb. It could be cool to use with a shooter using the screen as a scope or something of that caliber

        1. What i really think Nintendo should do with the controller is add voice dictation. Lets say your playing a team game like ghost recon and you have to give your AI teammates instructions you could just call out there name and tell them when and who to kill

      1. To me it all comes down to weight and balance, I tend to play long hours in the weekends, so if it becomes a hassle, then yea poor design, but if it feels good and functions well, I can care less wtf it looks like, I’m gaming, not a going to a fashion show, leave that to apple.

    2. Ehh looks OK. Screen could be used as a radar or something? Touchscreen to change weapons? Idk. I know I wont be getting it. Didnt get the first one, not getting this one. Shooters arent my thang

      1. Who knows, us consumers don’t know what we want. Until I see awesome experiences with that Zapper, I’m not getting it and I will always consider that to be a waste of money and resources.

        1. Agree. Hopefully we’ll be able to see actual footage at E3. And like you said, “who knows..”

          1. Well, I guess if you have super-advanced AI technology that expands what Binary Domain did and had a super-responsive voice-command function that rivals Siri and you can actually talk to them, I guess that would be pretty sweet. But that can easily be done with just another headset. Maybe if they used good motion controls that are on-par with Skyward Sword…

            1. Well the zapper is only a small accessory. Sure it’ll be nice if it had those things. But will it? Probably not if its not going to be frequently used.

            2. I think you make a point with the headset cause i think that kind of microphone built in would cost more money which might make sales for the controller less but on the other hand i would prefer not having to buy accesrories though

              1. Or they the controller should have a headphone jack so you can plug in whatever headphone you prefer.

                1. OK for one in reply to cool kid their is already a head phone jack which was on the model displayed at E3. and for 2 Primedmetroid i do not think regular headsets have the capability to do voice dictation

                  1. Ooo didnt know that. Thanks for the clarification. And I think I had turtle beaches in my mind when I wrote the comment

      1. What kind of experience does Nintendo want to put through us nowadays? This is my final verdict until more information comes out: until I see a good, MEANINGFUL way to use that Zapper to enchance gameplay, I’m not dropping a single dime for that piece of plastic.

  1. I wish they scrap all the Wii type stuff, like the zapper thing looks kinda cool. But they should try to not mention it so much

  2. Thing is, this actually makes a great deal more sense than the Wii Zapper ever did due to the screen on the controller. There are some tremendous opportunities for things like sniper sights and whatnot.

  3. As long as they make games that utilize this like Call of honor or whatever 100% optional… for people that want to use this can but people who just want to use the dual analog controller can… so everyone gets what they want

  4. If this gives you 360 degree motion controls, playing FPSs with this and having surround sound would be awesome.

  5. Well remember guys, its an accessory. Its NOT REQUIRED to play any of the games. Its something you get IF YOU WANT.

  6. sickr dont forget to bring us a new about the next splinter cell.i want splinter cell 6 to come on the wiiU

    1. I’m not to sure of if it would be better to put analogue sticks or keep the circle pads. I like the 3ds circle pads but the analogue sticks may give better feed back. can’t say until I use the ones on the Wii U

    2. What’s so bad about Circle Pads in comparison to analog sticks? Resident Evil: Revelations and Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D controlled fine with Circle Pads.

      1. I’m just saying that analog sticks are pretty solid as it is. The 3ds uses circle pads instead so it can easily close itself. I don’t see why the Wii U needs them unless it gives a better response than analog sticks which i do not know since i have not used them

          1. The nunchuk sticks are fine but i hope in the final version of the controller they add buttons to the circle/analog controls. Like the L3 and R3 on Ps3

    1. Looks like all 3 controllers to me. Interesting. Nunchuck for movement, Wii U for scope, and Wii remote for aim. Interesting

  7. I looked a the zapper controls in some Wii games, I don’t want to use a Zapper because of those mixed up motion+button controls.

  8. It LOOKS dumb. But, for an first-person shooter game for example, if you could move/point it in any direction and the gun/sniper sights (on the tablet screen) moved with you, that would be freakin’ PIMP.

Imagine sitting in a swivel chair, spinning around to snipe someone on a balcony or something. Fun. But as an optional feature, just in case it gets too confusing

  10. Charger: cool. Zapper attachment… I have visions of the touchscreen controller not being secured properly and soaring across the room.

  11. *Shakes head* No, we’re not doing this. No matter how light that tablet may be, having yet another zapper just because people might have issues with its gyroscopic aiming is overkill.

  12. We had the NES Zapper.

    Then the SNES super scope

    Then the Wii Zapper.

    And this.

Someday, there will be over 10 Nintendo Zappers.

  13. I own the zapper for the Wii….It’s still in it’s box and never been used. Sadly it’s the only Zelda game I never played either.

  14. Sorry, but that thing looks awkward as hell to use. Seriously, the Zapper worked for a Wii accessory because the original controller wasn’t so… bulky and was shaped in a way that made sense. This looks like someone’s stuck a TV screen on a machine gun.

  15. Imagine if they had actually made this Zapper for the Wii U and sold it along side a CoD game with exclusive Nintendo content, I’d have bought it!

Sad how the Wii U failed but at least the Switch was a success
