Microsoft Makes Its Own Vitality Sensor For Kinect Play Fit

Microsoft is preparing to reveal a peripheral not unlike the Wii Vitality Sensor for Xbox 360. The device will be used to accompany the currently announced Kinect Play Fit service and is codenamed Joule. The Joule heart-rate monitor will let Kinect owners track their heart rate wirelessly. Microsoft is gearing up to show off the device during its E3 press conference on Monday June 4th.

  1. ROFL Microsoft really? This is going to be worse than last year’s E3 and that is not good at all…. in the words of that lil bitch on stage. FIST BUMP!!!!!!!!!!

    1. Was it really? predictable would’ve been if sony did it, this is just ackward…

well, nintendo kind if killed their plans for this, so lets see if MS can capitalize on it.

      1. Nintendo didn’t trash the Vitality Sensor.

It’s simply too hard for them to figure out how to compensate for the natural differences in peoples’ heart rate ranges so they kind of just put it aside.

I figure Microsoft have and will continue to have a similar problem and if they can even ever get their vitality sensor gets off the ground, it will likely be very un-perfect.

        1. Didnt trash it? moto replied to a question about the VC with “No Comment”

I was actually happy with the idea of implementing your heart rate into games so I’m hopping MS does go through with it, but in the end, you’ll probably be right.

          1. Iwata and Mr. Miyamoto explained what I said above in a random “Iwata Asks” I believe. It might have been just a random interview, but I guarantee that’s the jist of what they said.

That being said, there’s obviously still a chance they will, in the future, trash the concept. Supposedly, the “biometrics” as I think they’re called are very, very tricky to implement in such a fashion as they would in video games.

  2. I thought MicroCOCK didn’t do gimmicks? LOL poor eggsbox fanboys EGG IN YOUR FACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    1. please take your annoying fanboyism somewhere else. i dont really care when people complain about companies, but when you have to say stupid shit like microcock and eggsbox its just down right annoying. seriously, it’s people like you that is wrong with the gaming community today.

      1. errrrrr what about fanboys who laugh at the wii name? ironic coming from you battlefield boy….

    1. Yeah, it reminds me of something called Wii Fit! geez, I though Sony was the company who copy Nintendo, not Microsoft. Or maybe both copy Nintendo!

  3. This reminds me how hard I laughed when Ubisoft brought their version of this out at E3 2010.

  5. With Nintendo just setting aside, maybe even ultimately pulling the plug on their Vitality sensor; maybe Microsoft can actually do what Nintendo couldn’t do? They can probably fix whatever problems Nintendo were having for theirs.

    1. Though this isnt something easy to fix. The only possible way affordable to us peepz is using some sort of calibration tool. Or its JUST a heart monitor, which in that case, only functions (read; has true data) for the “fitness” games.

Using it in RE6 seems impossible in that way, cause heart beat can be controlled mentally just by little training. Im looking forward to see what they are up to, cause Nintendo’s argument was one of my first questions…

  7. Let’s hope Microsoft can pull this off better than nintendo could. I mean, hey, if they gonna do it this late in Xbox’s cycle then it better be on point. I personally don’t like XBOX at all, but ever console deserves some sort of success. Yes, even Sony’s systems, which do still have a place in my heart

  8. Really Microsoft? What makes you think this is a good idea? I didn’t think it was good when Nintendo came up with it, and I’m a freaking Nintendo fanboy, what makes you think it’ll be any better on Xbox. Sorry no matter what system, I’m not buying this thing, unless it doesn’t something EXTREMELY amazing.

  9. Nintendo had the idea then dumped it. Years later microsoft copies it. Nintendo was smart enough to dump the idea because it was horrible. If microsoft copies an idea that was already bad, I can already feel the shitstorm coming.

  10. Kinect “Play” (as in Wii Play) “Fit” (as in Wii Fit)…? M$ could at least come up with names that don’t sound so rip-offish.

Nintendo is the innovative company that the other wait to copy. However, sometimes the other companies wait long enough to make the original Nintendo concept better.

  13. First it’s Sony’s EyeToy they steal… And now it’s Nintendo’s Vitality Sensor!? Please bomb Microsoft.

  14. Okay. Nintendo made something like this and it completely bombed. Now MICROSOFT wants to do this, and thinks this will be success? Microsoft, I have no faith in you, even though I want Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition, but I still dislike you for buying rights to Minecraft on consoles.

Microsoft wants a quick buck. Nuff said.

  15. WTF!!!

    Microsoft Copies:

    Nintendogs > Kinectimals
    Wii Sports > Kinect Sports
Wii Fit > Kinect Play Fit
    Nintendo Mii > Xbox Avatars
Wii U > (New xbox runoured to have touch screen in controller)

    Sony Copies

    Wii remote > PS Move
Smash Brothers Brawl > Playstation Allstars: Battle Royal
    Wii Sports > Sports Champions
    Nintendo DS > Sony S1
3DS Street Pass – Vita Near

They even copy nintendo style advertising with families all playing together in a modern looking front room all standing up in front of the TV,
