Tetsuya Nomura: ‘Time For Kingdom Hearts To Return To A Console’

Kingdom Hearts series creator Tetsuya Nomura has explained that he’s now ready to return the Kingdom Hearts franchise to its console roots. Whether this has something to do with the below expected sales of Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance on the Nintendo 3DS remains to be seen. Nomura also stated that he still has an interest in HD versions of the previous Kingdom Hearts games and he is “currently researching them”.

“We have been invited to make games on different new platforms, and every time we have created titles making sure that they are highly compatible with the platform.”

“The PS Vita is definitely a powerful device that is very interesting, but because of it’s high power, there isn’t much of a difference with a console.”

“So even if we were to make a game, we would have to be very careful about how to create it for that device. I also feel that it’s about time that Kingdom Hearts should go back to being on a console.”

“If it is possible, I would like to do something about the series being spread over so many different consoles, too. I am thinking a lot about the future.”

      1. Being one of THE best franchises in the entire industry, it’d be disappointing to see the next Kingdom Hearts game on anything less than the PlayStation 3… Though I am tempted to throw the PlayStation Vita into the mix too, given it offers “PlayStation 3-like” graphics and sound, in addition to a plethora of input options.

    1. NO! Oh god no! That thing is so crammed full of ‘novelty’ that any game made on it would almost obligatorily play on that stupid touch controller and I REALLY don’t want to see my favourite game series of all time go to sh*t because of it.

      1. I couldn’t agree more, it would be heartbreaking if the “Kingdom Hearts” mainstream series was moved to the Nintendo Wii U, further spoilt by the “novelty” functionality of the Nintendo Wii U…

Leave the mainstream Kingdom Hearts series with the PlayStation 3 or better yet, the (unconfirmed) PlayStation 4..

  1. Are you kidding me?
It (possibly) took the low sales of yet another handheld side-story to get this schmuck to realize he needs to release a console tittle? Yet I doubt it’ll actually be Kingdom Hearts III, seeing as they’ve loved milking this franchise for all its worth.
Thank god I’m over this game.

    1. A schmuck? I’m sorry, but the only one that’s a schmuck is anyone at Square-Enix but Tetsuya Nomura. Kingdom Hearts is probably what’s keeping Square alive because Nomura knows how to put out a game after what has happened to Final Fantasy with the last few installments.

        1. No you shut the fuck up just because someone wants to defend a great series from someones bullshit doesnt make the person a fan boy dumbass. Also 3D isnt a side story smart one its about freeing ven and the others from sleep and last i checked thats important and you would know that if you knew anything you piece of shit

          1. Gosh, you’re all idiots.
Look, SE doesn’t give half a shit about players anymore and Nomura’s loving it.
They’ve created countless remakes and crappy side-stories so they could get more money. The way I see it, most Gaming companies care only for how well shit fits in their pockets.
Kingdom Hearts has been dead for a while, and you, Mr. Fanboy, should untwist your panties and realize it before it’s too late.

            1. last I saw KH only had 2 remakes and the story is pretty good.
you say SE doesnt give a shit about the players by releasing a ports and remakes but they have remade ff7..
and do u play SE games they have had in the recent years pretty good games I dont know why everyone is hating on them because of ff13 it was not the best but I liked how straight forward it was.
the world ends with you is awesome
ff7 crisis core is pretty good
              The dissidia games
              and etc….
Also kingdom hearts isnt dead at all other wise the KH3D bundle would not have sold out from amazon.co.jp in the first 20 minuets
any do some research on a company before making all of these accusations it saves you from doing ass-holeish stuff.:)

    2. if you had any brains- and same with this author, you’d know KH:3D is suffering because the game has terrible glitches and one game breaking one. No one is going to buy a game thats half way broken to hell. Its why they released a demo and announced a patch this month. Its a huge problem. KH:3D was always in Japans top 10 ten, theres more to a game selling badly than silly console demands.

-thank god fans like you are dying and being eaten by trolls.

  2. Kingdom Hearts games seem to be more befitting on Nintendo devices, and I can see Nomura putting Kingdom Hearts III on the Wii U with all of those possibilities being placed in Final Fantasy Versus XIII. I mean, just think of all the things you can do in the gameplay and all the functions you can utilize on the controller. It would work really well. I know this may be a bit biased, but if Kingdom Hearts ends up on a Microsoft console, I’m gonna puke. I’m sorry, but the series would not bode well for a Microsoft device.

Also, I really don’t see how people think that Tetusya Nomura ruined Final Fantasy and Square as a whole. To me, that is nothing but fiction because Nomura is one person who knows how to make a game unlike Motomu Toriyama and Yoshinori Kitase after they made that atrocity known as Final Fantasy XIII. Plus, Kitase says that Final Fantasy XV may be more of an Action RPG like Xenoblade? While Xenoblade is an awesome game in its own right, Final Fantasy needs to be fully rebooted in the next installment with starting over from scratch like how Final Fantasy IX did.

And people think Nomura ruined the image of Final Fantasy after Hironobu Sakaguchi left and Yoshitaka Amano left as the main character designer, but that is also false. Nomura has complete respect for both of them because he worked with them ever since Final Fantasy IV. Why do you think Master Eraqus from Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep looks like Hironobu Sakaguchi? Why do you think Nomura’s character illustrations look like what Yoshitaka Amano imagined in his character designs? It all makes sense. Nomura has high respect for those two. If anyone should be blamed for Square-Enix being nothing but complete crap, its everyone else but him.

    1. Yeah Tetsuya Nomura didn’t ruin Final Fantasy. It’s Toriyama and Kitase’s who screwed it. If FFXV turns out to be an action RPG then I’m done with it. Final Fiasco XIII already pissed me off. I don’t want any FF to go the wrong direction again.

    2. I’m not trying to read a novel tets fanboy if u think u will see KH3 by 2020 your sadly mistaken.

  3. This game needs to find its’ way to the Wii U. It would be perfect there. An HD remake of the first 2 installments is also a very good idea. Leave luck to heaven.

  4. The HD would be awesome in the ps vita! And if they do make kh3, i hope that its for the ps3, 360, and wii!

  5. I heard the creator of kingdom hearts don’t like the controller of the Xbox so it will never got there…. Nintendo is good but playstation is where it should stay…. It has bluray disks so it can fit much more than the wii u…. Don’t get me wrong, it would be nice for wii u but ps3 is where it should go…. They can put much more content on a 16GB disk rather than a 4-7…… Just saying… No harm intended

      1. I’m pretty sure wii u can’t do bluray, nintendo isn’t a DVD play type of company…. Just my prediction… Just got to wait until E3…

    1. >Slot-loading optical disc drive compatible with 12 cm “proprietary high-density optical discs” (25GB per layer)

Well looks like the Wii U can fit 25GB, or 50GB if it’s dual-layered. That seems like plenty of space.

    2. Disk capacity hasn’t stopped the 360 from simply adding another disk to their big games. Being able to fit everything on one disk isn’t that big of a deal.

  6. i think i would rather see the exact same formula, but applied to the nintendo universe. Where the main character finds themeselvesin the nintendo universe.

Or..maybe some kind of dimensional rift causes two universes to collide..the disney universe and the nintendo universe. where we get characters from both companies all in one game

  7. i want kingdom hearts for all next gen consales or xbox 360 wii u and ps3 >.> my wish is to play kingdom hearts on a system again i cried in tears when they brought ff to 360 i want to shed tears when i see kingdom hearts on 360 make my wish come true please

  8. If they make a port of Kingdom Hearts I&II on Wii U in HD I will definitely buy it. Hopefully we will get Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories on eshop as well.

  10. I hope they do a “Kingdom Hearts All Stars” game or package, with all of the Kingdom Hearts games to date…

Could you imagine past Kingdom Hearts games combined with the power of the PlayStation Vita or PlayStation 3? Epic would just be an understatement…

  11. yes a new kh game would be freakin fantastic, and nintendo is great but nintendo is more for zelda not kingdom hearts.
