April’s NPD software sales are in and they show that Mario Party 9 continues to be a top-selling franchise for Nintendo. Mario Party 9 was the seventh best-selling game during a dismal April, which saw software sales at retail down by a whopping 48%. Despite analysts predictions Xenoblade Chronicles failed to enter the all-format top ten.
- Prototype 2 (360, PS3)
- Kinect Star Wars (360)
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (360, PS3, Wii, PC)
- Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13 (360, PS3)
- NBA 2K12 (360, PS3, Wii, PSP, PC, PS2)
- The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings (360, PC)
- Mario Party 9 (Wii)
- Mass Effect 3 (360, PS3, PC)
- Just Dance 3 (Wii, 360, PS3)
- MLB 12: The show (PS3, PSV)
Update: Xenoblade Chronicles wasn’t included as it was limited to only one retailer.
didnt xenoblade release a limited number of copies anyway?
Doesn’t matter, some of those missing sales were from fans feeling abandoned and decided to softmod their Wii so they could play the PAL versions instead of waiting a gazillion years for it to become NTSC. Myself included, bought my copy from Ebay.
Forgot to mention that the sad part is, both the PAL and NTSC versions are the exact same thing. Same voice actors, same subtitle options and editing, same everything. Meaning it was just major douchebagery from the game companies to not want to release it here in the states.
do your research when it comes to PAL vs NSTC… kid
Nintendo of America just didn’t think there would be a market for it. It took so much effort, money etc to get it localised with the voice acting too – NOA is much smaller than Nintendo of Europe – that you can’t be too angry at them for not re-doing it again. They just made an error in thinking it wouldn’t be popular.
The reason NPD left it out is because only one retailer is carrying it.
You’re right. I’ve updated the article.
That’s what i heard too. Kinda of an odd reason. Did NPD ever do this kind of thing before?
Thats a shocker, but I have yet to play Xenoblade anyway… I hear its good.
really? codmw is number three!!! WTF!!! i want to move to japan, atleast they know what good games are :(.
calm down brah, you gotta realize that CoD releases for almost every system out there. On top of that they have mindless zombies as fans that jizz bullets. Now imagine Mario Party how its only sold on one system, managed to topple all of that. On a side note, Kinect Star Wars only shows the brainwashing prowess of television commercials. The commercial for kinect star wars is playing on Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon almost every 13 minutes. If you gotta move to Japan do it because of the mass brainwashing going on with today’s television.
i might do it for both reasons. i do realize how much more advertised shooters and M rated games are then nintendo and stuff non M rated games. and the fact that cod is on multiple platforms but it’s still annoying that it’s still in the top ten.
Didn’t VGchartz claim its sold 230k?
That’s to bad. It really is a good game.
MW3 beat Mario Part 9? So did the Witcher 2, a damn near one year old game. Yes, Nintendos please take note of the competition in this top ten chart, and and least elaborate on what might have been better. Perhaps a new IP and not the 9th iteration in a stale party game genre, hmmm?
The point of the article is that a new IP didn’t make the top 10.
So in fact, they should keep the new IPs out of the equation since noone buys them anyway.
gamestop and piracy are to blame. though I’m sure it sold very well.
Reblogged this on The Primed Metroid and commented:
Dang, that sucks. Xenoblade Chronicles, though I haven’t picked it up yet, looks like an amazing game.
Stop spamming your shitty blog faggot
Was playing Xenoblade today. It’s a must-buy. While kinda like an MMO, the story pulls you in and the action is intense and epic!
Aha! I knew it! See, this is why Companies should never listen to the fans, and it proves that Infuane was right about Japan being dead.
…Nice job reading the updated article bro.
It should pick up eventually. And as the updated article says only one retailer is carrying it. So it looks like Nintendo has a cautious approach to this game.
Same here, idk why but something is telling me to wait.
