Mario Party 9 continues to be the best-selling piece of software in Japan selling a respectable 37,353 units. This week there were seven Nintendo related games in the top ten, which included Fire Emblem: Awakening, and the immensely popular Mario Kart 7. The Nintendo 3DS remains the best-selling piece of hardware, comfortably fending of Sony’s PlayStation 3. Here’s the top ten software and hardware in Japan:

Everyone is down, but the 3DS still has impressive sales. It makes me wonder if it’ll do bigger numbers than what it did during the holidays with only 3 major games back now. Imagine now with those same games still holding on, plus Kid Icarus holding up well, and then the new games.

Right…okay…so Sony don’t actually have any confidence in the Vita:
– Sony drop price
– Sony sell a few more Units – “OH NOES, they make more of a loss!”
– Sony still can’t change the Vita to be a success – “OH NOES we’ve made it worse!”
– Software doesn’t move to Vita – “Oh buggering hell…”
– Some hardware sales, but little competition among software developers cuts Sony’s margins – “OH NOES…”
Basically this ‘magic’ price drop will not necessary save the system from a financial perspective. Its a bad product.
Sony don’t know what to do. So there…doing nothing – simple as that.
Lesson kids? Plan. Plan. Plan. Nintendo made mistakes in their planning. But Sony made the mistake of not making a plan.
