Ubisoft Releasing Five Casual And Two Core Games For Wii U

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has told attendees at todays investors meeting that the company is planning to release five casual and two core games for Wii U. It’s not apparently whether Ubisoft is releasing these titles this fiscal year. The two core games are most likely Assassin’s Creed 3 and Rayman Legends, both of which have already been confirmed for Wii U.

Part of Ubisoft’s success is expected to come from Nintendo’s Wii U, launching at the end of this year. Ubisoft is a very strong supporter and is quite bullish on Wii U. The company will have five casual titles and two core titles. Guillemot pointed to the Avengers game slated for Wii U (and Kinect) as a title that should do very well with the casual market.

    1. Dont be simple minded. The casuals make up a very large user base. Only an idiot would not want to tap into that market. I am curious to know what the other launch core game is. I do not consider Rayman Legends as a core game.

      1. I’d say Rayman Legends is, like New Super Mario Bros., a “bridge” title. Accessible to casuals and enjoyable to core gamers.

It could fit in both categories… :P

      2. The Nintendo Reviewer

Very true. There are a lot more casual gamers today than there were before the launch of the Wii in 2006. To the dismay of some core gamers, games geared toward casual gamers do make big profits. Any company that truly wants to make a lot of money in today’s gaming world won’t simply ignore the casual crowd.

    2. In this time and age there is no real difference betwee “core” and “casual”, both are targeted to the masses except that one has and M rating tand the other an E rating.

That the games are good or not is a whole other subject.

      1. I personally go for the ‘hardcore’/difficult games that don’t have unnecessary violence and foul language, or is 80% cinematic or qte to mask the weak game-play. If it’s a game with a cute pink puff-ball or is filled with daffodils and rainbows I don’t care, so long as it requires skill to play. Zelda or MadWorld are not ‘hardcore’ to me.

  1. Definitely looking forward to Assassin’s Creed III and Rayman Legends. I wonder what those five casual games are. Maybe those includes Raving Rabbids?

    1. i think they’re talking about other than the announced games. i think splinter cell will be there

  2. Department of Agriculture

I’m glad Rayman Legends is considered core since casual is considered derogatory by so many people.

  3. Killer Freaks is far from casual, so that’s the other core game with Rayman being the casual one.

  4. holaaa! <3 can somebody tell me if the wii u is better (graphically) than the ps3? pleasie pleasie! I'm sooo confused :S

    1. It is. We don’t know for sure what’s the hardware inside Wii U, but by age alone it is far more powerful than a PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360.

    2. It is, but you won’t likely see a major difference at launch simply because it’s new hardware. We won’t likely see a “true next gen” game for Wii U until next year, because those games do take time, money, and resources to make. Launch Xbox 360 games did not look better than late Xbox games for the most part until Gear of War hit the ground, which was a year later, I think, and even then, the game focused more on visuals that it was shorter. Otherwise, it would’ve required more development time. The same is going to happen with the Wii U, and you’ll a lot of gloom and doom and people cursing Nintendo and stuff when they see that.

  6. Alright….. To clear up any confusion on which 7 games are core or casual….
    Casual Title #1: Killer Freaks.
    Casual Title #2: Rayman Legends.
Casual Title #3: Unannounced Rabbids game.
    Casual Title #4: The Avengers.
Casual Title #5: Just Dance 4.
    Core Title #1: Assassins’s Creed 3.
Core Title #2: Ghost Recon Online.
    Source: Brain.
All of these titles, beside Just Dance 3 and Rayman Legends, sound pretty freaking amazing.

    1. I think Killer Freak, being that its a FPS that has multiplayer is one of their core titles……Ghost Recon Online could be considered a casual game because its a F2P game. Those types of games are considered casual, even though we know shooters really aren’t.

And what happened to that’s sports game they were supposed to be making that they mentioned last year at E3?

    1. well the word “core” is basically the right thing to call a Mature game these days. It’s like the words “yo”, “ain’t”, and “thunk”…someone just created them and we just went along with them.

  8. Well look at this casual games on wii u wow btw those titles are a disgrace to gamers. Miyamoto is losing it. Gamers you should just wait for durango. We know how to treat our customers with respect. If you buy wii u it will be wii all over again.

    1. This site is called “My Nintendo news”, because here we talk about everything Nintendo related.

If you really think that a “casual” game is bad by default then YOU are the real disgrace to gamers here. The difference between a “core” game and a “casual” game is that one has an “M for mature” rating and the other has an “E for Everyone” rating. That a game is good or bad has nothing to do with that.

Nintendo is not responsible for what third companies bring to their consoles; yes, they can ask for more “hardcore” games, but in the end its the third parties that decide.

Let me tell you something about the Xbox 360 and the “Xbox 720” a.k.a. “Durango”.
Microsoft has obviously stated, with their implementation of Kinect in the 360, what their future plans are; and those are button-less motion-controlled consoles that attract the “casual” market, and require a subscription to play online. I have never bought a 360 because of the fact that I have to pay to play online, which is free even on the Wii.
And as far as rumors go, Durango is not looking very good nor impressive in any aspects.

  9. As much of a nintendo fan that I am ill have to pass because all am seeing is lackluster titles. Ill buy a durango i heard their going to have kinect 2 powered r
    browser and tv.

  10. That lineup should be for wii smh am done am going to microsoft. Nintendo keeps relesing shovelware. Ill just wait for microsoft andriod tablet, dvr, kinect 2 and suppior graphics. Atleast it will have steam and crytec 3 engines.

  11. ^this, yeah bro i agree nintendo is just gimmicks, kids and corpoorate greed. They stop caring about gamers along time ago. Nintendo does what they want well sorry but microsoft is taking my money and treating me right.

    1. Kinect 2? Seriously? Thats got more casual games than Play Station.

Kinect also sucks to me because look how stupid Starwars Kinect was. Also who wants to jump around playing games while I want to sit down after a long day of work?

  12. ^ That was all a joke. Im actualy a big nintendo and sony fn. i was just showing you how stupid the microsoft fanboys are

  13. So this means so far…

    Casuals:

    Imagine babyz

    Imagine dogs

    Imagine weeding

    Ray man

    Imagine cats

    Core:

    Rayman

    Assassins Creed 3

    Ghost Recon: Online

    Killer Freaks From Outer Space

    ————————————-

Ubisoft, you just killed my hope with you. I thought you were making more core games for Wii U not shit casuals you make like Imagine.

  15. I think he means for launch and I wouldn’t be surprised if Killer Freaks got pushed to 2013 and I don’t think he is including Ghost Recon because it will be a download only, Free to Play title.

    Core #1 – Assassins Creed 3 (confirmed)
Core #2 – Splinter Cell Retribution or Killer Freaks or Ghost Recon

Casual #1 – Rayman Legends (I wouldn’t call this a casual game but I see why Ubi might, I also don’t think this will be ready for this year but I hope it is)
Casual #2 – Raving Rabbids 3 (Blockbuster leak)
Casual #3 – The Avengers: Battle for Earth (confirmed, although I didn’t think it was for 2012)
Casual #4 – Just Dance 4 (Blockbuster leak)
Casual #5 – Raving Rabbids Party Land (Blockbuster leak)

  16. The amount of Anonymous posts obviously made by the same Xdrone makes me laugh…

But anyway, I think Ubisoft is doing a good job with games for the Wii U. Even though they are all games which are most likely coming to other consoles, I think the better graphics and tablet functionality will draw some people in, especially the Skylander-esque feature in Rayman Legends.

  17. Core is just a term for “an exclusive version of a game that will utilize the (insert gaming console/portable system here)’s features, and will support (insert online multiplayer, DLC, exclusive controls, or 3D here).”

HARDCORE is a term for “a game that will be rated Teen or above” in US, and “a game that will be rated PEGI 12 or above” in UK.

Casual is a term for “a game with simple, relaxing controls, and tons of fun for the whole family.”

I would say that Mario, Sonic, Rayman, Kirby, and Zelda are in between all three, meaning, it is a core game, but is neither casual or hardcore, and is just an experience that spans through certain storylines.

OMFG I hate fucking trolls, especially fanboys. Also, I haven’t even heard some of these games be announced for Wii U. Sounds interesting.
Leave luck to heaven and all that other Nintendo-y stuff :)

  22. Bill Gates ain't got nothing on me, bitch!

    I play on 3DS.
    I play on Steam.
    I even play on Wii.
    That is all I need.

You try to let me down, will turn around
You start to hear a sound, and you start to frown
People are sick of ya, get outta town
Because we’re tired of hearing ya scream and shout
“Call of Duty is the best, yo, suck my dick!”
We start to notice you’re a fag and say “Shut it, ya bitch!
We had enough of that talk, now go away
Or you’re gonna be sorry when you come again!”

Next day, you come back into town
We see ya, so we get our gun and melee weapons out
You start to say, “I ain’t ‘fraid of you.”
We come out and say back, “We ain’t ‘fraid, too!”

We shoot our guns, and you start to fall
You hit the ground and start to bleed, now you’re gone
We celebrate with our good friend, Mario
Then GLaDOS gives us some cake and says, “Here you go.”
Did I mention that your brother was bored of you?
He took your girlfriend, and your games, and said, “Tootaloo!”
