Darksiders 2 Wii U Features Are Under A “Strict Gag Order”

Darksiders 2 creative manager Jeremy Greine has explained that Nintendo has put a full gag on everything Wii U related until E3. Yesterday we heard that the Wii U is about as powerful as Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, but it sounds as though Vigil Games are under strict orders not to reveal anything related to the Wii U’s visual capabilities. Greine went on to say that Wii U is a next generation console and that we should keep our eyes open.

“If I didn’t have a strict gag order on me, I’d love to talk about all the great features that we have. but what I can tell you is that it’s a next generation platform, and you should keep your eyes open.”

“We’ll obviously be using the unique controller that it has to its utmost potential.”

“But speaking to specific features or tech effects – well, that’s in Nintendo’s playground right now. And I know that they have plans for E3.”

        1. *Facepalm*
A cartoony Capcom fighter which Capcom refuses to make another game for… Bastards refuse to believe that Street Fighter isn’t the only franshice they’ve got…

  1. Nintendo’s making sure to keep info on the Wii U capabilites a secret. It’s a smart move because you just know their competitors are waiting to see what Nintendo does so they can copy and improve on it.

        1. Hey Arnie! What if Nintendo has made this machine so badass and powerful that it’s flawless…now what are Sony and Micro gonna improve..hahaha! They’ll just straight up copy. I think I’d rather buy the real game machine made by real game makers who only focus on making games and making a machine to play them in is what they do best.

          1. LOL! That would be awesome, but nothing is perfect. It’s almost guaranteed that one of the competitors will have a controller with a screen in it like the Wii U.

            1. Wii U’s power is as far as developers are willing to go, I can almost guarantee that! When the Xbox 720 and PS4 are released, developers won’t take them to their full potential for a LONG time. By then, Nintendo will have another system to compete. So to all the SMART gamers out there, they might as well buy a Wii U and skip the other systems.

              1. You could be right, but I think Sony/MS will not want to leave Nintendo as the only console manufacturer with a next gen console on the market for too long. So I expect to see the next XBox/PS4 launching at the end of next year or early 2014.

  2. WOW… I think is the most serious Nintendo has ever been with their Gag order on so many AAA developers who in the past never considered Nintendo platform to develop for. Last generation this time so much info was leaked about the Wii leading up to E3.

  3. “Yesterday we heard that the Wii U is about as powerful as Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3…”

Well, technically, just to be more accurate and less-assuming here, all we really got from that report was that the Wii U version of the game is at least on par with the 360/PS3 versions, but that doesn’t at all say that the Wii U is “about as powerful” as Xbox 360 and PS3–it just necessarily says they’ll be no difference in visual quality with the game among all three platforms.

This is just a port, after all, and even on the 360/PS3 consoles, the graphics for this particular game are not really that particularly impressive, compared to many other titles on each console. This game doesn’t even push the current-gen consoles’ fuller potential. (To me, this game looks on par with an early Xbox 360 game). Of course, games designed to be ported across multiple platforms rarely ever do push the consoles.

Though, I wouldn’t take this particular game or the developers’ words here as any true indicator of the Wii U’s technical strength. If anything, from other sources developing more relevant hardware-pushing software (like Gearbox’s game Aliens: Colonial Marines, in which they said the Wii U version looks the best, and possibly Crytek’s rumored running of Crysis 3 with rather impressive results), we have more indication that Wii U is more powerful than 360 and PS3.

    1. Precisely. It means the game was probably ported graphically then maybe uprezzed a bit or something. It doesn’t mean at all that the console in just as powerful as the others, it’s probably much moreso.

    2. exactly, people need to realize too that it is almost impossible to not be able to make an affordable console that destroys the 360 and ps3 in terms of graphics. you can seriously buy a card that is 4 years old and that alone will overpower the 360 and ps3 easily.

  4. This is GOOD news, why u ask? I’ll explain!! THQ with this statement reveal what I’ve be think the whole time….NINTENDO Has these developer on strict HUSH HUSH lol, and with Epic endorsing Nintendo, speaking very highly of the system….then a leaked spec sheet shows up on the Internet claiming Unreal 4 support with Epic braging about it and what it can do, but they can’t show nothing until a unknown system is reveal!!! Gearbox states that it is a Next Gen system, then says that they don’t won’t to make Aliens CM Wii U a different game form PS3 or Xbox360, meaning it that much more “POWERFUL” they could radically change how it looks! CAPCOM said that is RADICALLY different from what we show last yr at E3 and we will be shocked!!! Nintendo is coming with the guns blazing this E3 and they making sure nothing is revealed before it…. We literally no nothing about ut as if it wasn’t reveal last yr…….CRAZY!! NINTENDO IS JOKING THIS TIME AROUND AND IT’S SHOWING!!

      1. STOP FUCKING TYPING IN CAPITAL LETTERS YOU FUCKING BUFFOOON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

btw I was whispering that but the caps made me look AGGRESIIIIVE

      2. Staff-D… I have to agree with you. Nintendo is really strict about keeping things a secret to third party publishers and developers. Just 12 days away from unlocking the secret.

    1. While I believe this is going to be one powerful system that can hold its own against the coming consoles, I have to point out that the developer from Ubisoft Milan who released the info about 2 GB of RAM and that it runs UE4 turned out to be a 15-year-old boy who was playing a joke.

  5. I believe that the Wii-U will have LOTS of exclusives From games compared to X-box and PS3. Thanks to the uniqueness of the Wii-u controller and specs.

    1. of course it will, nintendo consoles always have a vast amount of exclusive titles in comparison to the other two. mainly because the big n only develops for their consoles (unless you meant to make the 360 and ps3 one console, then they would probably beat out the wii considering the large amount of games that were only released for those two and not the wii.)

  6. Even if the wii u is only as powerful as the current gen 360 and ps3, it won’t really matter much (obviously it’s going to be at least a bit more powerful, but this is an if statement). Developers are still going to do multi-platform releases because MS/Sony’s new consoles couldn’t be too far ahead of the wii u that deving for just them wouldn’t make that huge of a difference. and if they were, the price tag on the consoles would be so huge that no one would buy them (think ps3 launch prices). But that’s just my opinion, and if anyone has posted anything like this already, i apologize. I kind of got excited and didn’t read any comments lol.

  7. Correction: yesterday we did NOT hear that the Wii U was “about as powerful” as XBOX360 and PS3, we heard that the version of Darksiders 2 was at least as good looking as as XBOX360 and PS3 versions. Big difference in what those two statements say. One says the console is only as powerful as current gen consoles (maybe slightly more or less), the other implies that the Wii U version of the game isn’t drastically more impressive visually, but does not explain why (most likely because it’s quicker and easier to have the exact same port on every console, and then just add in the Wii U functionality after the fact).
