Metro Last Light No Longer In Development For Wii U

Sadly THQ has confirmed that Metro: Last Light isn’t in development for Wii U. The game was originally shown off during last years E3 showreel focussing on third-party Wii U titles.  THQ global brand manager Mark Madsen says that the development team really wanted to concentrate their efforts on the forthcoming Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC versions of the game.

“It’s not in development.”

“If it does happen, it won’t sim-ship with the other SKUs, but if the opportunity arises we’ll take a look at it.”

“I don’t think it was a bit too early [to show the game at E3]. As we got along in the development process, we just really wanted to focus on what we knew, focus on PS3, 360 and PC.”

“The verdict is out on what we can do to maximise the code for the Wii U, and we’ll see [what happens].”

    1. Oh no, don’t take chances on the game not being as good as the other consoles and not selling well on a new console with a limited consumer base. That would be terrible business strategy….

    1. I don’t think you understand what lazy means. Developing a game costs a lot of money. And spending a lot of time working on the game for a new console, which they probably don’t know about, would be: a waste of time/money & just result in a bad game.

    2. it has nothing to do with being lazy, THQ is in Financial trouble and making a game for a new system is too much money for them right now

  1. Ok, if it’s not in development, then why did they say the Wii U version would not arrive at the same time as the others? This was a few days ago. I’d rather companies not announce games if they will just can them later on. I was pretty excited to play this on Wii U.

  2. Completely expected. THQ is in a shithole right now for money so they can’t take a risk at releasing a game on a console that has no installed user base yet. Maybe it will come later but this was a smart move on their part.

    1. Thats the real barometer for the industry. E3 is where they can get the real feedback that will tell then: “this will make us tons of cash… or .. Oh crap lets stop working on this for now”

  3. Misleading title again. They didn’t say it wouldn’t happen, they just said that they’re focusing on existing systems until they’re sure that it would sell well on the Wii U.

    1. So the title isn’t misleading then because the game is indeed no longer in development for the Wii U as of right now. They are continuing the development for the other consoles and may come back to making it for Wii U.

      1. ^ Exactly.
Sickr has some jealous enemies who like to spam his articles with corrections, negativity and arrogance to make Sickr look incompetent. I just ignore them, but good comment.

  4. Well screw them! I was looking forward to playing this game on the awesome Wii U controller but apparently not. Well THQ’s loss because it might have done even better on a brand new system before a bunch of other FPS arrive on it.

  5. This is a symptom o THQ’s impending implosion. They’re simply running out of cash and, one way or another, the THQ of right now will be an entirely different entity by this time next year.

    1. So if you hate using controllers for FPS games then why are you buying the Wii U?… it has a controller in the same format only with a built-in mic, speakers, touchscreen, camera, sensor bar and NFC, but the layout of the buttons is just the same.

      1. “So if you hate using controllers for FPS games then why are you buying the Wii U?”
um probably to play other genres? ever think of that?

  6. WHAT THE FUCK? THEY SHOWED IT AT E3 2011 AND SAID “IN DEVELOPMENT FOR WII U”. IT OBVIOUSLY SHOWED IT WAS IN DEVELOPMENT FOR WII U BECAUSE IT WAS IN THE SOME OF THE UPCOMING WII U GAMES. LAST LIGHT WAS SHOWN AFTER GHOST RECON ONLINE ON THAT TRAILER.

1st was Aliens not coming until 2013 (Good idea though to make sure its good)

2nd was Ubisoft is showing that they are releasing 5 crapual games and only 2 hardcores.

Then 3rd was Last light is delayed.

then 4th was last light is cancled.

I bet Tekken Wii U will be delayed until 2013 now which leaves us with only Ghost Recon and Killer Freaks left.

Is it just me or is other people losing hope in the Wii U? Their just going to delay everything like with the 3DS to the looks of it now.

  7. Guys, it’s not over. I’ve seen this article on multiple sites, but this is the first site that said that development is cancelled. The other pages say that the Wii U version will just arrive later.

    1. How is this awesome? One less hardcore game… :(

And they delayed Colonial marines recently until 2013.

Really, if Tekken, Ghost Recon and Killer Freaks is not at launch because of delay. Wii U will be dead, because there won’t be any good games.

      1. At least there will be first party titles and franchise characters… including an upcoming Metroid title (could be developed by Retro Studios or Epic Games).

  8. I was looking forward to this game too on the Wii U :(
It was going to be my first choice of game for the Wii U… well I still got my money on Killer Freaks

  9. So basically it’s the Wii U-Sonic Generations situation: Sega didn’t plan for the controller, so they passed on bringing the game over so they could design a future game around it.

While I could have seen this game working with it, I guess I understand their move to hold out for future development. Too, as many have said, THQ isn’t doing so hot financially right now, so they’re not in a position to take risks.

    1. THQ confirms they’re focusing this game for current gen consoles. The problem is that the company are losing money. There are other games coming soon to the Wii U… especially DarkSiders II, Batman: Arkham City, Assassin’s Creed III, and next year’s most anticipated game Aliens: Colonial Marines.
