Wii U GamePad Functions As A TV Remote

Nintendo detailed many functions of the Wii U GamePad during the pre-E3 Nintendo Direct. Nintendo revealed that you can use it as a universal TV remote – all you have to do is press the TV Control Button, which is just left of the Power Button. Nintendo also promised that the Wii U GamePad will act as a TV guide by showing information about television programs on its touchscreen.

        1. Non-Specific Action Figure

Hi i just been born my name is Non-Specific Action Figure and i aprove my message

          Together Wii U.

      1. I prefer using two TVs to watch TV and play games at the same time. I did it all last year and I like the set up. Sometimes, I do not have time to watch TV and I prefer to play games more because nothing is interesting on. However, multi-tasking with two TVs made it more entertaining and less time-consuming.

    1. Why would you need two TVs on your room… and are you watching both at the same time? So i doubt this is a useless feature.

  1. Now that device would be pretty hot. I wonder if it’s compatible to HD cable box converter like TimeWarner or Comcast. Anyway, Nintendo really put the U in universal. Thanks for sharing this topic Alba.

  2. Still keeping my remote. I have no idea if it can be used while you’re playing a game and it obviously won’t have every button.

    1. being virtual it could have every button ever made and more. and yes turning on the tv is a phisical button so yes it can be used while playing games

  3. If this is compatible with AT&T U-Verse, it will be helpful because their (U-verse) remote sucks! I find the iPad app worked better than their own remote. I just hope the Wii U GamePad’s screen will have tactile feedback like Android devices (and unlike iPad).

  4. It’s going to okay for here in the UK.
Whilst it’ll be okay for the main TV functions, and possibly built in Freeview, it’ll still be partially useless for anyone with Sky/External Freeview Box.

Plus, the fact that with all universal remote controls, you’ll likely have to go trying random codse till it matches your TV.
