Nintendo of America executive Scott Moffitt has told ABCNews that you can transfer your Wii Virtual Console purchases to Wii U. Good news for those with a Wii console brimming with past classics.
Fans who have purchased libraries of old games will not lose their downloaded game titles when they decide to upgrade to the new system, a decision in line with how Apple’s iTunes store operates regarding digital downloads of game apps. Moffitt said that there will be a bit of restructuring of how their login IDs/accounts work with the Wii U; he told us, “You will have an individual account based system. Each member of your family might have their own account.”
This is amazing news. I know a few of my friends are very happy to hear it.
thank god:D
So exactly like psn? That is great actually. Albeit that has its drawbacks too.
Hope this also applies to the Wiiware purchases.
You’re stupid.
I suspect it will, but the fact it wasn’t mentioned makes me take an air of caution.
You have a mangina.
Oh thank god!! I just had a hell of a time finding out about getting my games to a different wii, let alone to a Wii U!
I wish this meant you could have the games on your Wii and your Wii U at the same time, but I’ll take it.
Wait what? So if we “transfer” the games from our Wii to the Wii U, that means we cant still have them on the Wii anymore? Does the post actually say that, or is it heavily implied by the word transfer? I really hope we can have it on both…
oh thank god!
Oh wow thats good! Cos a while back I heard we might not be able to but thats good cos I have tonnes of game downloads on my Wii! Well not tonnes but most Mario and all Zelda games and many of the Sonics too!
om but how they did not explained.
I am really wondering if gamecube games can be downloadable and we are able to play them with the wii u pro controller! Now that would definitely make my day!
This.
That’s good.

Ahem ahem… As M. Bison said it..
YES! YES!
1. Put SD card in Wii.
2. Transfer downloaded games to SD card.
3. Put SD card in Wii U.
Boom! Now your games are on your Wii U!
Games cant be copied
well a big duh. they wouldn’t want to piss off millions of people by not having their vc/wiiware transferable.
Unlike some companies *cough* Sony *cough* :)
I want this kind of thing for 3DS since I have a habit of handhelds breaking after a year or two
That’s very good news.
good, now what about transferrig my saved data from the Wii to Wii U?
This. Especially games like Animal Crossing City Folk really need this function. Too frustrating for words if you spent 4 years on one town ~_~.
also, is there an SD card limit?
Hell to the fucking yes!

You know what would make this even better? Not having to rebuy Virtual Console games between Wiis. Then, and only then, would this be an accomplishment on their part.
Great news! Now I will still be able to play all those old games I paid for…
