Wii U Just As Powerful As PlayStation 3 & Xbox 360, GPU 1,5 Times Stronger

According to Dutch gaming website Inside Gamer a Ubisoft employee told the publication that the Wii U central processing unit is as powerful as the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but the graphics processing unit is one and a half times more powerful. The information was disclosed by the employee during a gameplay demonstration of Assassin’s Creed 3 on Wii U.

    1. No, I’m sure they confirmed that only one tablet was supported AT THAT TIME. Things change my friend, and with the Wii U I sure hope it’s for the better, this system will certainly need a good takeoff!

    2. yh exactly, there are different dev kits. the cheaper dev kits have lower tech inside them. on the other hand, EPIC, Gearbox and Vigil have all said it’s next gen quality tech in the wii u. i saw vigil say it on video, this ubisoft thing i havent so im gonna stick to true next gen

  1. Hmm well Assassin’s Creed 3 was made on the older dev kit, same with Rayman Legends and a lot of developers did say the older dev kit looked more like or was on par with the PS3 and XBOX 360.

    1. During Ubisoft’s conference, they did say that they were demonstrating on an old dev kit. Which is why the Gamepad was still tethered. Nothing will ever be known until after the Wii U is launched. That is when someone will tear it apart and find out what’s inside.

        1. oh some sony fanboy huh? well, the gpu in the ps3 can offload calculations onto the playstation3’s amazing processor, making it alot more powerful. look at ps3 only titles that were made for ps3 hardware. you could never get those graphics out of anything else. ex Lbp1 Lbp2, infamous was pretty good, Gt5. i mean really. its all what the game is written for.

          1. You forgot their latest PS3 exclusive Beyond: Two Souls. It looks almost like Square Enix’s next gen engine tech demo.. almost anyway

          2. The PS3 still runs those games at 720p and upscales the render to 1080p, and vast majority of PS3 games run at a maximum of 30-35 frames per second.

Don’t be delusional: the PS3 was remarkable 5 years ago. Now it’s decent at best. Especially considering I’ve yet to see a PS3 exclusive that looked completely impossible on the XBOX360.

And yes, I own both consoles before you go getting fanboy butt-sore.

            1. ok ok i getchya. there are some exceptions, the ps3 doesnt run all games at 720 and upscale them.some look really good. i never said that the ps3 is the best of everything, my 6970 could roast the ps3. but for 300$ for a pretty fricken good game system blu ray player and netflix, you cant beat it, even today.

  2. Not surprised I expected it to be more powerful though. What I’m really wondering is will it run unreal engine 4? If it doesn’t they will be in the same situation with Wii to where they won’t get as much third party support and cross platform games

    1. i highly doubt any console next gen will be able to do unreal 4. it pretty much requires a gtx 680, a $520 graphics card. unless you want to be spending AT LEAST $1000 on a console, it wont be supporting it.

            1. Not another 600 dollar shit with no games for 2 years please… Sony will never make the same mistake twice (well now that i think they did made the same mistake with the vita lol)

          1. Well, yeah, they want their engine to look the best during presentation, right? But how stupid would they be if their engine wouldn’t run on lesser hardware? Seriously, if everyone can’t run it, it’s not gonna be able to sell games. Of course it’s not gonna run on CONSOLE shit from 2006, but on any DECENT CARD, say HD48xx, HD57xx, HD 66xx, HD75xx, GTX280, GTX460, GTX550, GTX 6xx.. It’ll look great on any of these cards.

It’s gotta sell. If they can’t run it in a bunch of places, looking like shit when it needs to, and then looking GORGEOUS when it can, then it’s a gimped graphics engine with no future.

            1. why do i keep getting people replying to my comments months after i already posted them? i mean seriously, that was june 8th, you must have done some SERIOUS digging on this site to be able to find my comment to reply to it.

      1. i dont think this is true at all. no matter how awesome unreal4 might be, no console shall ever cost 1000, and i dont think the guys from unreal are that stupid in order to make it that expensive. Be real lol

      2. This is correct, all devs Ive spoken with are still planning on running Unreal 3 on Wii U, PS4 and 720. However; Wii U is up in the air atm for Unreal 4. Then again, folks keep forgetting Nintendo has an NDA out on the Wii U’s full specs. Until they drop that, legally no one can talk about it.

Gearbox is the closest folks will get to understanding what Wii U can do visual wise. Ubisoft did not take full advantage of Wii’s visuals until Red Steel 2. Even that is debatable. Still if Wii U uses Unreal 4 the consumer is going to end up paying way to much. 3DS and Vita’s price point for a Handheld proved too much in this economy. A 400 or 500 dollar game system wouldn’t be worth the upgrade.

That’s why Nintendo will play smart. This isn’t the 80s or early 2000’s money is tight and millions are out of work. With unemployment growing even higher since 2010. So for Big N or any company to put Unreal 4 in the new system, they would be digging their own graves. From a Corporate standpoint mind you.

Still at Lunch you will not see Wii U games running more then 720P HD. Along the line they will up games to 1080P and use more of what the system can do. Right now there is no reason too. But until the NDA is lifted, no dev is really going to talk about it.
        .

  3. Can people stop reporting this. It’s obviously more powerful than both of them, they’re not Nintendo’s problem. They’ll be competing with the successors of the PS3 and 360 for most of the Wii U’s life…

    1. Which are both guaranteed to have betters specs in every way, because now Microsoft and Sony know what Nintendo’s console has to offer, they would never make a console with worse specs, especially because we no they’re willing to charge a lot more than Nintendo

    2. i believe what they are trying to do is not get people to buy the Wii u with reporting crap like this

    3. Technically, if the Wii U is around the same power, they both could hold off and keep the current system around to compete directly with the Wii U. Gives them less stress to trump the Wii U

  4. Yeah It shouldn’t matter if the Wii-U is more powerful than the PS3 or XBOX 360..

IT needs to be on Par with the future PS4 and XBOX 720, consoles which are sure to blow Wii-U out of the pond. It’s a good thing Wii-U is launching so early in comparison, it’s going to need that extra bonus lap.

    1. It didn’t hurt the 360 with the 1 year head start over the PS3 and Wii. If the specs are close enough, developers will just target the weakest and port to everything else. This is what we see now with PC games, they develop for the 360, port to PS3 and PC.

After launch, we should be seeing 360 and PS3 games ported to the Wii U with underutilized graphical horsepower, assuming they even bother to make ports at all.

      1. Target the weakest for development, you say? Then how come they didn’t develop for the Wii and ported to Xbox 360 and PS3? The reason why most developers develop for Xbox 360 is simple: It’s easy, and not complicted like the cell technology the PS3 uses.

This is the reason why first party developers make such good looking games on the PS3, because they HAVE to use the cell technology to make the best out of it.

        1. I said “if the specs are close enough”, you target the weakest platform. Developers target the lowest common denominator and optimize later (if at all). The Wii is not in the same league as the 360. The Wii is in the same league as the PS2. That is why many of the 3rd party developers used the PS2 as the target platform for multi-platform Wii games.

  5. Once someone gets their hands on the retail WiiU this specs debate will be put to rest when it is cut open and the real capabilities are revealed. We sure can never count on Nintendo’s generic specs sheet to put this to rest.

    1. Wait so your saying the Durango, the next gen console that will be filled to the brim with crap and/or decent casual Kinect 2 games and the Orbis, priced cut version of the PS3 is not going to be on par with the Wii U?

From what I’m hearing they’ll all be on par with each other

      1. You’re hearing the wrong news, nearly every bit of rumor for the next two consoles talk about their power.

        :P

        1. What rumors? You mean BS rumors like the 720 having Avatar-level graphics? Please, the system hasn’t even been shown off yet nor have any dev kits been released so the 720 and the PS4 are mysteries, wait till Sony and Microsoft reveal them.

          1. Chances are you don’t go on NeoGAF, which contains industry developers (confirmed one). So I’m not entitled to hear your crap you think you “heard”, but totally misread.

Actually, I’m going to start ignoring your posts, since you never have something smart to say in response.

  6. I’m just going to say it: Boo!

I don’t want a system that is only as powerful as the systems from a generation before it. It’s just going to be the same thing once the next PS and XBox come out. Me seeing all the great PS and XBox games being released while I’m just getting Mario. A few games isn’t worth $250+.

        1. dude we all know you hate the wii u so why keep coming back and makeing look like shit oh maybe u think the wii u is better have come here to get your stress out

          1. No he didn’t. He said it’s as powerful as a PS3, and also equal to a 2007 high-end PC.

That in itself isn’t entirely accurate, as a high-end PC in 2005 would be more powerful than the PS3 in 2005, being that computers are always at least a year ahead of consoles. depending on the builder.

But I see what he was TRYING to say: Wii U’s tech = way outdated.

              1. You sound like a computer junkie that has no heart for anything. Get the fuck over your shelled-in, girly ass attitude, grow a pair, open your eyes, and enjoy what is called life. Please… “budget PC” hur dur derp. har har hur de-derpity derpington. You ego makes me choke on my own puke. Worthless piece of crap.

          1. Of coarse they are. Computers are computers. It’s like your trying to tell people the sky is blue! The thing YOU don’t get, is that a console can be sold at a relatively low price, and is an all-in-one package for anyone who so desires to pick one up at their local store, and have a tremendous amount of fun right off the bat. I guess people like you STILL don’t get the *concept* of a console.

      1. But only slightly, as Wii was with consoles before it. While I will always say graphics don’t matter, in reality they do. If Wii U can’t pump out what 720 and PS4 can do, developers will simply create games (such as CoD and eventually GTA) on the more powerful systems and may make a downgraded one on Wii U, which will soon lead to PS4 and 720 to not view Wii U as a competition and thus it will be a repeat of this Gen.

      2. what is your problem? I’ve been coming here for months and you seem to be the biggest douche, do you work for sony? do you work for microsoft? then STFU! you arent making any money on any console, and you seem to have no life. PLEASE GET OVER YOURSELF! no one here wants to here you. and if you hate nintendo soooo much why dont you stop coming here? I think you were probably molested by R.O.B. the robot or something when you was a kid or something, well that didnt happen to any of us so we dont have beef with the big “N”. GO TROLL SOMEWHERE ELSE KID!!

    1. think of it this way, nintendo consoles have a lifespan of 5-6 years, so by the time ps4 or xbox720 comes out nintendo will have like 4 years left and a new console comes out which is going to be more powerful than them. Theres a reason nintendo’s console is weaker because there is always 2 consoles plus innovation for every new xbox and playstation.

  7. The fact that people are still pondering this question is proof to the fact that Nintendo failed to deliver with the Wii U’s software unveal this E3. When PS3, 360, Wii, Gamecube, PS2, 64, so forth and so on had their E3’s it was evident that the machines were more powerful than their last Gen counterparts. With this E3, a lot of games on Wii U shown looked like they could have easily been done on a Wii. While its great that Wii U is just as strong as PS3 and 360, they are gonna leave it in the dust when PS4 and 720 come out. It will be a repeat of this Gen. :(

    1. Not really. The fact that people are still going on about this proves we know nothing of the system’s specs even after the games that were shown.

    2. what i saw with the assassins creed 3 and pikmin 3 demos, i thought it was pretty obvious that the capabilities were at least better than the ps3, because when they showed the gameplay of assassins creed 3 on the ps3 it really didnt look as good as the wiiu version, and on top of that, the level of detail that can be seen in pikmin 3 was astonishing. everything was crisp and detailed. and i dont get why people are acting like 150% more powerful isn’t a good leap in terms of power.

      1. Its not 150% more powerful, its 50% more powerful.

The thing here is that if the console is not at least on par with the PS4 and 720, then 3rd parties wont bother with bringing multiplats to it.

I don’t want top of the line visuals on my Wii U, for that I have my PC. I want the Wii U to have both good 1st and 3rd party games.

            1. Actually 1.5 is 150% If It’s 1.5 times more powerful then It’s 150% more powerful. 50% would be 0.5 because It’s half of 100 where as 1= 100% plus 0.5 which = 50%

    1. They won’t say anything, since they blatantly said they won’t be talking in-depth about specs.

They didn’t do it with the Wii, and they won’t do it now. Get over it, Wii U is an overclocked 360.

  8. The problem with this statement is that it’s not as easy as “1.5 times this or that”, because raw power is not measured in one number. It’s a multitude of things: shaders, PPS, ability to render dynamic light sources, calculations for physics and interactions, etc.

For that reason alone, I take all the “X times as powerful as Y” stories with a huge grain of salt. I want concrete evidence of power: show it running Unreal Engine 4 and let me see how it does and if it needs to scale way, way down from a high-end PC or if it’s at least decent comparable. Let me see the frame rate of a game like Cysis 3 as compared to XBOX360, PS3, as well as a high-end PC; let me compare the resolutions they’re all running at, the frame rate, the number of AA passes, the number of light sources and shadows and how well they’re rendered.

    You know… REAL information.

    1. Also, the trouble here (if I accept this “X times as powerful as Y” premise, and also accept this story) would be that not only is 1.5x the power of older consoles not really too impressive, but also that Wii U has a second screen to render. Albeit a 480p one, and not all games will make full game-rendering use of it (some will use it as a map or something much lighter on the GPU). So that extra 0.5 of power is more like 0.2 to 0.4 (or 20% – 40%) more powerful, depending on the developer’s use of the tablet in relation to their game.

For a console coming out 7 years after XBOX360 and PS3, that’s laughable. What that tells me is the above mentioned consoles could just come out with a tablet controller and INSTANTLY have a larger game library than the Wii U (which Microsoft already took the first steps to doing, albeit less proprietarily). Not good news for Nintendo, which is why Microsoft and Sony have both openly admitted that they’re willing to wait and perfect their next consoles; because they feel they have plenty of time to do so.

For the Wii U to really offer up something unique, aside from Mario/Zelda/etc., the console HAS to be impressive graphically. With Unreal Engine 4 and other game engines coming out boasting jaw-dropping visuals, and Nintendo’s competition on the heels of supporting that and more, Nintendo can’t afford to yet again be stuck in last place with just a novel new controller. It worked for Wii, because it was ridiculously easy and very affordable. But that wave has passed and casual audiences will be less likely to invest in something else now that the “fad” (and let’s face it, for a lot of them, that’s what it was) has ended, especially if that console is not quite as intuitive for them, and costs over $250. And it won’t add anything more for them that they don’t already get with the Wii.

They don’t care about graphics and such, they care about party games and staying fit. The original Wii does that already. And the ones that still give a damn aren’t going to pony up over $250 for the same thing with better graphics and a nifty screen. Especially if they have a tablet already; They won’t care that the tablet works WITH the Wii games, because the Wii games are enough anyway. They’re a different breed of gamer that doesn’t necessarily crave the “next big thing” in console hardware.

That’s us; the core gamer market. And to win core gamers back that have strayed to Nintendo’s competition, having just a tablet and (basically) and XBOX360 isn’t reason enough to shell out the cash. Not even Mario is. Amazing graphics, better physics, more complex games are where their heads are at. Don’t get me wrong, they (some of them) care about gameplay and story elements just as much, but those are non-system specific entities that can, and in some cases already are being filled by their current console(s) of choice.

Nintendo has an uphill battle ahead of them, and they better have their all-weather tires on because it’s not going to get any easier.

        1. 720p* you mean?

And no, it isn’t. The output to the TV (for launch games) is 720p. Console can SUPPORT 1080p output, but that doesn’t mean it can handle running games at full 1080p and still manage a worthy framerate (above 30fps). After all, XBOX360 and PS3 have the technological capability of outputting in 1080p. Only a handful of games actually do it, though, because the hardware would choke for most graphically intensive games (i.e. almost anything released after 2006, and some released even at launch).

The Wii U controller outputs at 480p (best estimate from show floor reports). There would be no reason to output anything higher; the number of pixels tall on that controller can’t be too much above 480p, so outputting a higher resolution would be asinine. That’s like having a 1080p display on your iPhone: pointless, because you wouldn’t make use of over 100 of at those pixels, and they’d end up getting squished together and blurring the image.

The key is balance between screen size and resolution, and the smaller the screen, the better it is to have a smaller (than HD) resolution. Not saying the controller COULDN’T look good with 720p or even 1080p, it would just be completely unnecessary for it’s function and a waste of hardware GPU. I’m sure Nintendo (and the developers) know that.

      1. “That’s us; the core gamer market.”
Please don’t lump me with graphic-whores as yourself

        1. ummmm, i’m hoping you weren’t lumping me into the graphics whore thing. the last thing i am is a graphic whore. Graphics are the lowest common denominator when i give my opinion on games.

        2. If you’d read and comprehended my post instead of picking a part you didn’t agree with and immediately stopping to post a pseudo-witty retort, you’d see that I also said:

“Amazing graphics, better physics, more complex games are where their heads are at. Don’t get me wrong, they (some of them) care about gameplay and story elements just as much, but those are non-system specific entities that can, and in some cases already are being filled by their current console(s) of choice.”

Reading Comprehension, 101: you need it.

          1. Blah blah.., you quoted the wrong part of your comment:
“For the Wii U to really offer up something unique, aside from Mario/Zelda/etc., the console HAS to be impressive graphically. With Unreal Engine 4 and other game engines coming out boasting jaw-dropping visuals, and Nintendo’s competition on the heels of supporting that and more, Nintendo can’t afford to yet again be stuck in last place with just a novel new controller”
–Here it is. You’re also a hypocrite… you don’t give a damn about “more complex stories”. What engines can it run and “jaw dropping-visuals” are the only things you notice about a console… therefore you’re graphic-whore. Not hard to understand, right?

            1. Moron, you can’t pick out one part of my comment and then completely ignore the part where I also add in that I (it was implied that I was part of the aforementioned group) care about the stories and gameplay as well.

If you were half competent, and cared as much as you seem to project you do about what I say, you’d realize that for months now, I’ve been saying I want games like Metroid and Zelda to go back to 2d, like Mario did, for at least one game each. I also defend the current generation of consoles for having graphics that are “more than enough.” Do some searching if you don’t believe me. But you won’t, because you are the type of person to, again, pick out one part of a post and act like the rest doesn’t exist. You’ll find something about this one to pick out and ignore the rest, make up some cockamamy claim, and “blah blah blah” some more (which is more evidence that you don’t read OR comprehend anything except the parts you choose).

Also, I have TIME AND TIME AGAIN listed Super Metroid, Mario Bros. 3, A Link To The Past, Mega Man 2, and the US Final Fantasy III as my all-time favourite games. All Nintendo consoles, by the way, none of them any kind current. And I all I care about is “jaw-dropping visuals”? Pretty sure I was speaking generally there. And being that “core” gamers are playing PS3 and XBOX360, and not Wii (even Nintendo has admitted to losing them), I’m pretty sure they DO care about graphics.

See, the difference is: they realize that you can have both graphics AND gameplay, and they’re not willing to shell out money for a console that phones in one in favour of the other (a la Wii). Especially when there are plenty of games on other consoles that encompass both, even if you don’t personally like them.

Now, reply back and tell me I’m a graphic whore again, because I don’t look the other way “just because it’s Nintendo.” Tell me that Wii has better games, and more quantity of games than the other consoles. LIE to me, I dare you.

And if you don’t care about graphics at all (which you seem to be implying, since anyone who even remotely cares about graphics is a “graphic whore” by your logic), then why are you getting a Wii U? Why buy another console after the NES, even? The SNES didn’t do anything that the NES couldn’t do, other than better graphics. Why keep buying consoles that do the same things only with better graphics? The Wii was the only console that changed the way we play. You mean to tell me you’ve never bought another console because you were impressed by the graphics even remotely?

              LIE TO ME. DO IT.

      2. heres the thing dude, you speak a lot of truth BUT anyone familiar with how business works and manufacturing cost should know that unless sony/microsoft and willing to wait a few years before unveiling their next console NO ONE should expect a huge increase in graphics…even the rumors floating around now about graphics processors sony/microsoft might use (amd radeon hd 7950) are price 4-500 hundred bucks alone….THATS NOT HAPPENING…i doubt any next gen console will cost $600+….the reality of it all is that wiiU is most likely going to be affordable and it comes at a time when sony/microsoft cant up the graphic a whole bunch like they did before to show they’re are superior….the gaming industry is in a weird spot right now….companies arent taking risk because it cost way too much to develop games now and the cost only stands to increase the more nintendo/sony/microsoft increase the hardware horsepower….for those reasons (which i honestly think nintendo saw coming long before everyone else) i think they will copy the tablet idea and almost focus of cloud services with a minor increase in horsepower with there next gen systems….it will be exactly how it was with ps2/GC/xbox basically on a even playing field with only there 1st arty games to distinguish themselves from one another
think about it…if 720/ps4 come out and blow wiiU away the console will be $600+ and it will take them 2years and a price drop bundle to move units giving wiiU possibly 2-4 years on the market with a nice new AFFORDABLE console with tablet and great graphics….not sure thats a battle sony/microsoft can win, sort of like how they didnt win this gen

        1. Not necessarily true. We don’t know what card Wii U contains, therefore we don’t know what price point they’re at. If the console costs $300, you have to figure that the controller makes a good chuck of that factor. That being said, a conservative estimate without control might be $250, which is what the Wii cost when it debuted with already-outdated graphics. Kind of like the Wii U may be doing now, we don’t know just yet, but to be outdated the graphics just need to be on par with the current generation, which for at least so far… they are.

That’s not to say they won’t improve; drastically even, maybe. The fact that first-gen games look like last-gen XBOX360 games is at least somewhat encouraging. That being said, if Microsoft or Sony went a non-tablet controller route and, unlike Nintendo is ever willing to do, sell the console at a bit of a loss and recoup through softwares (where the real money is anyway), We could see a two new consoles next year for $300 that easily out-class the Wii U.

Then core gamers will have to once again make a choice: inferior graphics/physics (and thus, gameplay, in some cases) but with a unique way to play (tablet controller), or much more advance physics, graphics, gameplay mechanics, etc. but with a traditional controller.

Typically speaking, “core” gamers prefer traditional controllers. That’s why Nintendo included the traditional buttons on the tablet controller, and why they included the GamePad Pro. But if you prefer those controls, and if you can get the same controls on other console with better graphics, why wouldn’t you? The ONLY leverage Nintendo will have is that tablet, and historically, “core” gamers are quite content with traditional controllers for their various game types. There may be a few cases where the tablet might be more intuitive (Dialo III types of games, for example), but that’s a big stretch to wager several hundred dollars on just to have that functionality. Especially considering Miscrosoft has an option prepared for those few cases; one that many gamers may already be setup for (i.e. they may have tablets already; many people do).

          1. Or they can get all the consoles, like I do. But my premise in the above post is predicated on the average consumer not being able to afford every console that comes out, when it comes out, thereby dividing sales for the top 3 manufacturers.

  9. I think That THE Wii u Will Be 2 times stronger in CPU and gpu and THE Wii u is not realy finisht yet and thats THE resion why nintendo did not reveal THE specs yet

      1. Ah, but they confirmed that games like Rayman Legends, Assassin’s Creed III and ZombiU are using the old dev kit and not the latest one.

I don’t expect them to wow me because they are just going to be first gen games but later gen they will be making more use of the new dev kit

        1. Dev kits aren’t something you program into your game. They’re a tool you use to run your game. You switch to a newer dev kit provided they didn’t change the architecture (and they don’t), as easily as upgrading a software app on your computer, for the most part.

To put it bluntly: they’re not “stuck” with whatever dev kit they started with. Those games are now running the final dev kits. At least, internally (at their offices) they are.

    1. out of curiosity, why do you type like that?
that aside, i agree. We don’t actually know what the specs are. For one thing, how do we know that this site didn’t just make a false claim? Isn’t that a fairly easy thing to do? For another, the wii u is capable of running 1080p at 60fps(I’ve personally not looked at 360 and ps3’s capabilities in this area, but from what i remember hearing they are not capable of that smooth of a frame rate at that resolution.) and beyond that, making a port for the wii u will be vastly easier than making a port to the wii. Given the pro controller there won’t be nearly as much of a difference in controls to give developers pause. So people please, stop squabbling.

  10. this is why it’s awesome to have a gaming pc. when it comes to consoles, it really doesnt matter how good the graphics are, because you’re already used to it not being as good as on the pc anyway. so even if it is only 150% more powerful than the current gen console, i couldn’t care less.

      1. come again? im saying that i couldn’t care less about “how powerful the next consoles are” because i already have something that is more powerful, so i will be buying a wiiu….and i own a 3ds…..

  11. O SHIT I THOUGHT THIS WAS MY NINTENDO NEWS NOT MY RANDOM PEOPLE NO ONE HAS EVER HEARD OR GAVE A SHIT ABOUT GIVING THEIR OPINION ON NINTENDO NEWS

    1. So will the future paper weight Microsoft is developing.. Oh no wait that’s the Xbox 720, Ha! Silly me

      1. You mean PS4?

The PS3 sold the worse and is only now catching up to XBOX360, and has no chance of catching the Wii. It also is behind the XBOX360 in overall software sales.

In other words: PS3 is the most useless console of the past generation. PSP Go was a TITANIC failure. That’s 2 huge, expensive paperweights so far. Meanwhile XBOX360 is as powerful as, and continues to outshine PS3.

Troll all you want, it doesn’t change facts, no matter how stupidly you curse and “LOL!!!” all over the place ;)

        1. Just because the Wii sold way more than the PS3 doesn’t mean it’s better. The PS3 is a country mile more powerful than the Wii. Us as gamers shouldn’t care about which system sold more/made more money leave that to the companies…

            1. Actually we should…
In this case if the Wii U is on par with current gen systems many people won’t see the point of purchasing one. Honestly I would be more of a Sony supporter over Nintendo if it weren’t for Mario. Mario is the only reason I own many Nintendo systems.

          1. More powerful doesn’t mean better. My point was that hardware wise: Wii wins. Software wise: XBOX360 wins. As far as power goes: XBOX360 and PS3 are equal in almost every noticeable way; that has been proven time and time again.

The PS3 is not in the lead of anything aside from “who is catching up the best this year.” That’s not much to brag about.

            That was my point.

    2. You sure have a funny way of spelling “Vita”. The only letter you got right was i and you put too many of those

  13. I really doubt it. Ubisoft themselves said at their conference that they were working with weaker earlier dev kits. Until somone takes one apart we wont know for sure. Leave luck to heaven.

    1. You know, I just want to say I really like reading your comments on this site. You seem to be about the only sane person left on this site that doesn’t blindly attack or defend other companies and consoles. I respect that.

  14. hardware isn’t what makes people buy consoles. software is. as has probably been said before, the Wii was a good bit weaker than the other two, yet was a rousing success, because it had a library of software appealing to different types of people. hardware isn’t as important to a system’s success as people make it out to be.

example: the vita. it’s a technologically solid device (minus the lack of internal memory, forcing people to buy fancy overpriced SD cards, but that’s another story), but it is lacking in games that people want so it’s selling terribly, much like the 3DS when it was lacking desirable software (even though the vita is doing considerably worse).

moral of the story: software is more important than hardware. the Wii U is starting off with a brand new pikmin game and new super mario bros, as well as having a new zelda and super smash bros in the works. not to mention the other first-party franchises that will be brought to the Wii U in due time. i feel the Wii U is going to be just fine, so people should stop worrying about every little detail

  15. Again, people are getting worked up about this, Ubisoft has actually said they are using the earlier dev kit, not the newer one. The game that they did announce that used it was Rayman Legends so don’t cry, the newer dev kits are actually being praised by the likes of Epic Games, GearBox Software and the like and they said that the Wii U is way more powerful than current gen

  16. I’m from Holland aswell and Inside Gamer is truly unbelievable and always anti Nintendo. They don’t do their research and still think the Wii U GamePad is an add-on for Wii…

  17. Its much more powerful its not just 1.5 times better . And the cpu is also much more powerful its obvious. I dont trust this sense it was on the show floor theres always mistakes there

  18. While this MAY be true, you should take a moment and think about this:
This http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmoWe5pyfQI&feature=youtube_gdata_player was a FINISHED launch game for the PS3 and now we are here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-rqUopCY91o&feature=youtube_gdata_player

This http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=81GJDhkAWv4&feature=youtube_gdata_player is an UNFINISHED game for the Wii U and now think about it, how games could look like later on!

  19. Anonymousssssssssssssssssssss

To be just as powerful as an XBox 360 that’s roughly 4 times its size is impressive for such a small little box.

  20. everybody needs to calm down. in due time the real specs will be revealed. anyway, regardless of the true specs I’m still going to get and enjoy this beast machine.

  21. Why people even bother discussing this is beyond me.
Nintendo has said countless of times that they do not compete with amyone other than themselves.
It’s the american media mostly, Microsoft and Sony that are the bullies trying to attack Nintendo every single time.

If people believes that games are better because of graphics and more complex because of it shows ignorance.
Making the same bs FPS crap all the time is not a complex thing to do.

And then trying to impress people with new games like Beyond.
If I wanted a movie-like experience I go to the movies than buying a cheap hollywood rip-off.

I play Nintendo games not because of graphics and not because of power, but because of the games and their original ideas and imagination.
Which does not contain shit boring guns all the fucking time.

    1. Everyone just needs to stop pretending like graphics don’t matter at all.

Yes. They do. Otherwise people wouldn’t have been all “omg it does HD! I want HD Zelda!” when it came out. And everyone did, so denying it is pretty silly.

So to act like that when the good news of HD was the big topic, then to turn right around a few months later when these news stories started and say, “oh, I uh, don’t care about graphics” is pretty stupid.

      Very stupid, let’s be honest.

  22. All Wii need is Unreal Engine 4 and The Wiiu will win the next gen. If not then FAIL from nintendos part cuz Tim from EPIC said if Nintendo releases a system with enough power then UE4 will be supported. So really its all on Nintendo to make this decision & I hope they dont fuck up like they did for the Wii. For me & Gamers Sales are not gonna matter. But wat will is The overall Appeal/Respect for this System. because If the Wiiu has no UE4 we’ll see gamers around the world bashing Wiiu making fun of it nd spitting at it so blindly like they did for Wii nd frankly Nintendo needs to step their game up & also bring us a Good online as well as the highly rumored Appstore. nd besides graphics UE4 shortens development time from 2-3 years to just 12 months. So Wii really need that!
