EA Says The Introduction Of Wii U ‘Will See Lots Of New IP’s’

Electronic Arts Labels boss Frank Gibeau believes that the introduction of new consoles into the marketplace will bring about lots of new IP’s from developers as they look to enhance the experience found on the console. Gibeau says that there’s never a better time to launch new IP’s than when a consoles launches, primarily because you can explore new ideas and do different things.

“The introduction of new hardware from the big three is going to allow us to reembark on a bunch of new IPs, because it’s the better time to do it, because you can really explore new ideas and do different things.”

“In a market this massive, launching new IPs is very risky and it’s a big investment to make these games. So it’s a natural thing to see in this point in the cycle a little bit more emphasis on the knowns – the big properties and franchises – but in the new cycle you’re going to see a lot of new IP from Electronic Arts.”

I want Nintendo to have their own new 3rd party titles..megaman, Ninja Turtles, games that i played from the 80′s……and to have what xbox/ps3 is currently getting..as in GTA5, Elder Scrolls/ fallouts, mortal kombats, ninja gaidens REvil, If Nintendo can go back and bring out old games from the 80′s it will be amazing console

Nintendo made the NES..and at that time there was no competition.. every game maker had to go threw NIN…I want that same thing done with the Wii U..have games for everybody…you can own again..the recipe is easy..Make a ton of games..like the nes had

It seems like the past few console’s/ handhelds that they have been stuck on Zelda/Mario/StarFox…..there is wayyyy more gems out there…and when they do put the Zelda games out; it one every 5 years or 3 ( for handheld )…Metriod skiped the nin64 era…Starfox has been stuck on the same game…
Nintendo needs to be a monster and just unleash the beast…This could be the console that could rival the nes inventory !!!

and I AM NOT A TROLL…I OWN EVERY NINTENDO PRODUCT. from the nes > gameboy/3ds > wii…..I just want them to shut every hatter up…the nes was for everybody at the time…and it OWNED..

      2. Of course Metroid skipped the N64 era…the guy responsible for its success in the first place DIED around that time.

  1. The Wii U can open the door to a lot of news world not possible anywhere else. It’s up to developers to take advantage of the possibilities. I’m looking forward to seeing what they come up with. Leave luck to heaven.

  2. New IPs is definetly the solution for Nintendo! It recycles too much the first parties, like Mario, Zelda and Metroid. Maybe they seem too reluctant in creating new stuff (except maybe for Miyamoto, since he already stated that he’s revealing Nintendo’s next franchise real soon). Maybe we’ll get a liuttle glimpse of it on this Nintendoland videogame?

Speaking of Nintendoland, now that E3 is all gone and etc. Nintendoland is going to be a really good title for casual gamers: not they’ll only have fun minigames to play, but they’ll get to know all the famous franchises in one single game! Oh Nintendo you could have some cool achievements for this game, like the biography of all the franchises main characters, and maybe a secret Bonus Soundtrack! Since it’s a game to celebrate Nintendo itself, it would be nice if they did something REALLY BIG for it. If they do that, I bet my ass it’s gonna sell more than Wii Sports!

    1. It’s worth noting that technically Wii Sports, Wii Fit, Nintendogs and Nintendo Land are new IPs. It’s just that we tend not to consider them as such because they’re not traditional game worlds/universes as we’re used to as gamers.

But I only say that to point out that *Nintendo* does treat these as new IPs, so in their minds they’ve been all about new IPs during recent years (we got lots of these and only one Metroid and one Zelda in the last 5 years, for example). This means you’re probably trying to say that New *Traditional Gaming IPs* is the solution for Nintendo – and don’t get me wrong, I agree wholeheartdly.

    2. But they still shouldn’t have shown it off so much. And seeing as a Metroid game hasn’t been released for 2 years and a Zelda game hadn’t been released for 3 years before SS, I don’t think those series are being milked as much as the Mario series.

    3. Yea, Nintendo hasn’t made a new big franchise since… Pikmin in 2001?

And Nintendoland cant possibly sell more than Wii Sports, simply for the fact that it was a mandatory bundle to the Wii, which was sold to millions of people who didn’t actually bought it for a console but a toy

  3. In other words, EA is going to sit on the fence until MS and Sony release new consoles, making whatever lead Nintendo has moot. Then, if the Wii U is as powerful as the other systems, they may port their new IPs. If not, it will be a repeat of the Wii with nothing but last-gen shovelware.
