Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Is A “Big Priority for Namco”, Tekken Team Helping Out

Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada acknowledges that Smash Bros for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS is a huge priority for Namco Bandai. Harada explained that there are a huge number of individuals working on the project, including some from the Tekken franchise.

“Obviously it’s a big priority for the company, so company-wide there are a lot of people involved with that particular project. Not just from Tekken but a lot of our franchises.”

“Although our main core staff is busy with Tekken Tag tournament 2 and trying to finish that up, I do think we’ll support the initiative in some kind of capacity.”

      1. Yeah, liking or not, he is one of the most iconic characters in video game history. Maybe even more than Mario himself.

*In Colonel’s Voice* He’s that famous.

        1. Mario is bigger, that’s been said a lot (Just Google ”most famous video game characters”, Pacman isn’t even included in some of those.), but he is a pretty big star. His moveset could be lacking a bit, though, he has been in SF, but he needs some unusual attacks for his specials. The last Smash could be his power pellet, and everybody on screen would turn blue, or they would completely turn into the ghosts, and everybody Pacman touches flies out ofthe arena.

      1. Yes Jin or jun or maybe both but the there wasn’t may enemies in SSBB so add Devil and Kazuya as the same character sort of like that Shiek/Zelda thing and add Bowser Jr.(based of a moveset from Super mario Sunshine)

  1. Namco does know that they will be the most hated gaming company to ever exist if they fuck this up, do they?

    1. Good thing they’re just ‘Helping’ Nintendo. Its still a Nintendo game, made by the same people who made the previous games, but with some extra help the development time should be quicker, might even get in some Namco characters, and Nintendos other resources can be better spent on stuff like a HD Zelda.

      1. I know that Project Sora is working on it, but it’s a VERY small team, and I’ve seen in some news articles that Namco are the big gears for the making of this game. They have the ability to completely change the mechanics, or put in more useless stuff (Like tripping in Brawl.).

      2. actually its based of a prototype that namco presented sakurai with…meaning it could play different as it isnt project sora who is coming up with the general engine for the game

  2. It’s good to know it’s being handled with such care and priority.
To hell with all the people who say Namco will ruin it! I think the next Smash will be simply fantastic!

      1. This how Capcom makes a fighting now.

        5% gameplay 90% as DLC

Then 2 weeks later they release a “super” version.

    1. I think it’s silly that people say Namco will fuck it up, I mean, Namco will really try extra hard to do their job as good as possible when a major game like this is on the line.

  3. I expect a few Tekken characters in there. Maybe Jin and King. King could be a monster with his wrestling moves. I think Namco and Nintendo will work well together and create a spectacular game. Leave luck to heaven.

  4. They’d better not fuck up my Smash bros.
I’m sure it’ll turn out well as usual, but you never really know… I just hope Nintendo keep a close eye on what 3rd party devs are doing with their franchises.

      1. I think with al the support Ubisoft have been giving the Wii U recently, and with Rayman back on form with Origins and Legends, he’s a pretty likely candidate.

        1. Rayman? Fuck off. His last game may have been good – after years of shite – but he is the most unlikeable video game character ever. There is no chance whatsoever of him being in any Smash game. Ever.

Oh and to all those saying there will be loads of Namco characters in the games, no there won’t. It’ll be one character, more than likely Pac-man as Miyamoto has worked on one of his games.

          1. Why do you think he is so unlikeable? He doesn’t even have a clear personality, how can you hate him so much? I think he is a good pick, the more the better.

            1. Easy he’s French

That makes him unlikeable from the moment he was created.

Plus the fact that his game fucking suck.

            2. Mainly because he’s so poorly designed and amateurish. He is just utterly useless. Pointless mentioning him really though as there’s more chance of me being in Smash 4 than Rayman. My Final Smash would be having anal with Scarlett Johansson, making every male character kill themselves with jealousy, females run off (killing themselves) to bitch about us and animal ones – and Kirby- being so confused they just commit suicide.

          1. Ray Man did have a small amount of Japanese releases, but he’s not popular over there which explain why the other Ray Man games weren’t localized there.

      2. I completely agree with your third party list. Thats a pretty rare thing too, because most of the time I think people are WAY OFF about what characters should be in SSB.

  5. So the boss of tekken does not like dlc but he is working with Super Smash Bros..
Does this mean mean the next Suuper Smash bros will be dlc free? I hope. I HATE DLC.

    1. There is a difference between ”free DLC” and ”DLC free”. And how can you hate DLC? DLC like Wrath of the Lamb for The Binding of Isaac, or Dawnguard for Skyrim, is awesome. Just because Capcom makes shit DLC, doesn’t we shouldn’t have additional DLC. C’mon, it’s more content, more levels in Mario Bros., more characters in Smash maybe, more dungeons in Zelda!

        1. I know where your coming from blackbabe111. I hate DLC as well. I hate how you have to pay so much for crap. Like for Soul Calibur! All the good weapons and clothing are 5 bucks extra somtimes. I agree with you again…I guess free DLC are okay too :P

        2. some people hate it some love it, i understand because some companies love to rip u of with dlc that should have been there in the first place, and i know angry fanboys will be hunting mii down later.

    2. These days i hate DLC but 4 years back, it was awesome, like all the Fallout 3 DLC, and the Mass Effect 2 DLC, especially the Overlord one. I like DLC if its worth the price for what im getting, and if its a new perspective or branched off chapter, rather than Assassins Creed 2 missing levels -__-

  6. I don’t know why people want Pac-Man, of all things, in the next Smash.
I’d only want him in for the sheer sake of beating the snot out of him. I don’t think he’s a character with enough going for him to be a solid fighting character without something helping him along.*coughmechsuitcough*
Get someone better from Namco in there.
Like one of the characters from Soul Calibur.

    1. Pac-man could be good as an actual character. I am on your side though. A Soul Calibur character-in particular, Ivy would be AMAZING!!! :D

  7. I want Symphonia characters the most! Lloyd and Kratos/Zelos!

But honestly I think we’ll see Jin make an appearance out of anyone.

    1. No.

I want Viewtiful Joe to be in it, the guy needs some love.

I also want Travis Touchdown to be in it.

And if it is possible I want Thomas The Tank Engine to be in.

    2. Personally I do. Think he would be a much better fit than Mega Man if Capcom are given a character. But I don’t want him, or any other 3rd party character, put in just for the sake of it.

  9. The picture posted for the article could be a great New-Comer roster! Waluigi, King K Rool, Little Mac, Mewtwo(returns), Banjo Kazooie, Balloon Fighter, Andross(human-like form from Star Fox), Roy(returns), and Samurai Goroh!!! I also see Dr. Mario but I’d rather him not return as a character but as a costume for actual Mario…

      1. there’s so much wrong with what u said first off his name is Banjo NOT banjo kazooie, second they r 2 characters not just 1 bear, & also that red bird in his back pack is kazooie, and SHE is his FEMALE partner. Banjo is MALE & Kazooie is FEMALE [its on wikipedia]. personally it would b awesome cuz Banjo & kazooie are a pair partner type characters, plus with kazooie we might get a female newcomer if banjo & kazooie get in! Also what u said is really pissin me off cuz: it is banjo AND kazooie! Banjo is the bear & the MALE of the pair, AND kazooie is the RED BIRD in the pic & SHE is a GIRL!! i hope they get in! im excited 4 banjo AND kazooie!

      2. Banjo kazooie is ONLY the TITLE of the series. Banjo and Kazooie r 2 different characters! last time i checked kazooie aka the red bird is in the pic 2, & SHE is just as much of a protagonist as banjo, so at least give her sum credit! They r 2 characters, & Banjo’s name is NOT banjo kazooie! Kazooie is the bird’s name, u ignoramus

  10. I think there should be 3 Namco characters:

-Nightmare from Soul Calibur series (seems reasonable, especially since Link was in Gamecube version of Soul Calibur 2).
    -Heihachi (sp?) from Tekken series.
    -PacMan

    1. HELL NO!!! IVY VALENTINE should b in instead of nightmare! the games are enough of a fuckin SAUSAGE FEST as it is!!!! We NEED a GIRL newcomer!!!!

  11. This is freaking awesome :D
and if they add a new character, I would like to see a new female, I think Peach, Zelda, Samus and Jigglypuff need a new partner. By the way I would love to see Shantae on SSB.
