Five Out Of Seven Ubisoft Wii U Games Are Ports

Ubisoft has reiterated that five out of its seven planned titles for Wii U will be ports rather than original games. The two original games are the promising ZombiU, and the super-fun Rayman Legends. Ubisoft says that the company only has a small investment in Wii U.

How much of your R&D budget has been allocated to Wii U? And then secondly can you comment, in general, on the cost of creating games for the Wii U and how that compares to the cost for a PS3, 360 game or a Wii game?

“Out of 7 games we are planning to launch, 5 games are ports, so those are games for which there is a quite small reinvestment to do. The two games that are original, are ZombiU of course and Rayman, so those ones of course are more expensive but we are not talking about games today, like we were spending on Ghost Recon or Assassin’s Creed. So they are much smaller of cost. Because as we’ve always said when there is such an innovation the need is not to have big production value but to concentrate on the innovation, this is what we are trying on Rayman and ZombiU. For the other five games, you are talking about small budget, I’d say of less than a million euro to make some of the ports, I’d estimate. so together I don’t think we have a huge investment on the Wii U.”

Ports…Ports exist because of all the gammers that cry and get all mad when they can’t play a game on a console because it is made for another console….That is where the game developers get the idea that there could be more money to make off the game…so the developers will make a game for that system that you were crying over…

support the system that you have purchased……not the game developers …..Mass Effect wanted nothing to do with Ninetendo, Assasian creed..not sure on that…call of duty…gave Nintendo shit and said it was the same…madden basically ruined sport games for the wii….

so if you want to go play your skyrims and maddens buy a 360

        1. what are you talking about?
call of duty was on gamecube and wii. madden has a long time history on nintendo consoles, even including wii and ds. wii couldnt pull of technically mass effect. the same thing applies to assasins creed. the only game “missing” is skyrim

    1. I’m fairly certain it’s ‘ZombiU’, lacking a space. As it says on the title of the official Ubisoft Trailers.

    1. Yup. With N64, GameCube and Wii people complained about not getting multiplats. Now they complain about getting them.

      1. You are probably dealing with our Metroid and Zelda branch of our Nintendo family. They are hard to please. They can make F-zero with boosters and using all Wii remotes, plus interplayability with 3DS’ and they would still complain. This is great news in a way watch and see.

        1. Love Metroid, is my favorite series of all time, love Zelda, pretty high up on the list but, I hate F-Zero. Don’t try and make out everything Nintendo has made to be great. Some of their titles have been gold-plated piles of crap. Plus I could care less about what system a game is on so long the developers are left to do what they have always done to make their series great. Stop acting like all “fan boys” are the same. The industry and its survival is the important thing, not certain companies.

    2. I don’t know. I have no problem with them. Ask the people who constantly scold the Vita for having ports. You’ll find quite a few of them right here on this site. They seem to be the ones who are in the know.

      1. Was just about to say. Ports are -perfectly fine- on Nintendo systems, yet the Vita gets hell for it and they seem to forget that the 3DS has just as many ports as that device.

        :eyeroll:

  1. Are you honestly surprised? Ubisoft always rush out as many ports as possible onto new consoles. Just look at the 3DS and the PS Vita. The biggest crime was that Ubisoft ported Dungeon Hunter: Alliance on the Vita. You could buy the game on the iPhone App Store for $0.99. But on the Vita, it cost $39.99.

    Fuck Ubisoft.

    1. Fuck you, Ubisoft is one of the best developers this gen when they arnt making shitty games for the Wii.

  2. Ubisoft are almost as bad as EA when it comes to console ports.

Dirty French bastards can rot in hell for all i care.

    1. Ubisoft is one of the best publishers and developers in the video game industry. If it weren’t for the French-Canadian company, there would be no American Revolution with Connor, no limbless hero, and especially no Tom Clancy titles.

    1. Its possible. While the footage was 90% chance of being PC, not reason why i would come to all consoles. 369 got Witcher 2, arguably the best looking RPG to date on PC, and it still looks damn nice on the 360.

  3. Well if the gams are changed to 1080 to fit the Wii U vs. Xbox 360 and PS3 than they arent just completely straight up ports right!?

    1. Port doent mean what Aeolus says iit is. All games are made using a PC, from that theyv just scale to make it work on the console

  4. what they’re trying to say, is that it is very inexpensive to port there games over to the wiiu, this is a VERY good thing. if all they need to do is copy paste, than that mean that the console is at the very least more powerful than the other two consoles, and the developers will be more willing to port there games due to the ease of porting over games.

  5. Gearbox, Ubisoft just showed their hand. Bring the pain now! Border lands two, and hope that Ubisoft don’t bring watch dogs lol. Though you know I want you guys to force them to do that. :).

  6. ..rayman legends & zombie U ftw. and if ubisoft remade the original splintercell trilogy then released on wii-u plat, imagine a roused up customer buying on launch; such as myself :)

  7. Only small investments, but the games are looking good… I can see ubisoft raking decent profit from this

I don’t get what is the problem against ports… it’s a business strategy… making exclusives needs more money and larger risks… Wii u is a new console… they only do what a wise business men would do… playing safe… it’s still better than nothing… 7 games from Ubisoft to choose from within the launch window… that is more than good enough… as long as the port is okay, no bugs, i dont see a problem… unlike some other company that is “sceptical” to even release a port to Wii u…

  8. Some of you please stop fighting and be cooperate at each others. Be a family and have a good heart. Jeez!!!
