Nintendo of America’s Charlie Scibetta has told the NY Daily News that the company is more interested in providing gamers with an experience that’s going to leave them with a smile on their face, rather than participate in a tech race against the next Xbox and the PlayStation 4.
“If you enjoy playing the game then what the specs are under the hood, from our perspective, doesn’t matter a whole lot. We’ve never hung our hat on being the most powerful system. We do like to make the claim that our games put smiles on people’s faces, and they’re really fun and innovative.”
This is why I love Nintendo. Maybe Sony and Microsoft can learn from the wise ol’ Nintendo.

I’m kinda sick of companies who wish to just reiterate rather than innovate. I loved Skyward Sword, Galaxy 2 was a great game. But why couldn’t I play those with modern graphics? Will the Wii U be capable of the upcoming 4K televisions? Will the Wii U launch be as laughable as the 3DS or Vita’s? And will Apple join in the race officially or still silently take the lead without even trying?
Nintendo can make great software. Sega made great software too, but look what happened over a decade ago.. Will this be the Nintendo version of the Dreamcast as we know it?

The answer to that is no because of the same reason they didn’t go HD with Wii (they figured that not very many people owned an HDTV back in 2006), Even if PS4 and 720 support it, doesn’t mean all games will be in 4K Resolution. Nope i really don’t believe that Wii U is the next Dreamcast, because Sage has a lot more problems that happened to them than Nintendo.
4k resolutions, kid, you ain’t got anything to worry about on that front. I’m fairly certain that nobody’s going to go through the troubles to make a VERY expensive machine. We haven’t even stepped into the realm of 4k resolutions with our both feet, and even if we would in 2 or 3 years, it would still be insanely expensive.

By the time we can all buy a 42″ 4K television, Nintendo shall be releasing the Nintendo ULTRA. That is in about 6 to seven years. I Just played Phantom Hourglass, and it really gave smile on my face. My top 10 games- list is almost full of Nintendo games. Only R&C3 and Kingdom Hearts makes its way there.

And there was a time when the N64 was teh strongest machine ever because the lastest PC cards were coming in Winter, where the N64 launched in August. See? Nintendo 64 f-ing rocked people with the specs.
But it ultimately lost to the PS1 in sales.
Strongest meant nothing when the format for games sucked and ultimately screwed the console over. Same mistake with the Gamecube (even moreso for not jumping on the DVD bandwagon).
Fact: Excluding the SNES, virtually every “powerful” Nintendo console had a fatal flaw that would come to ruin support for it in its lifetime. N64 cartridges, for instance.
cartridges did have the advantage of no loading times, where as the ps1’s disc’s took ages to load
also the cartriges are a lot more reliable and don’t have to be replaced as often, discs could get scratched
also cartridges load faster for gameplay and graphic use
This is starting to get me worried. All this ”we aren’t competing with them” talk makes it seem like they are giving a excuse for poor hardware.
Unique experiences are fine as long as we get them more than 1-2 times a year. I think we showed it with the Wii, by letting it catch dust until the next Nintendo game came out, and I’m worried that this may happen with the Wii U too, and completely corrupt the image of Nintendo among the so called ”hardcore” gamers.
You need good hardware for good experiences too, imagine a even bigger Hyrule, a even faster F-Zero, a more immersing StarFox. Those all would only be possible with competent hardware. The Wii U may come in 1st place again because of the price (History has shown that the cheapest system almost always is the one winning the generation.), but the experiences may be scarce because of the hardware.
Whatever this talk is, I hope it’s just Nintendo sincerely saying that they are not competing, with no thought behind that.

If systems were more powerful than the WiiU it would take forever to develop the games and not worth it. a system that’s too overpowered is more likely to get hardware damage just look at the 360 and Wii. Why has their never been a full cgi film with realistic graphics like the one u see in tech demos? Cause it would take waay to long to animate. Games with high polygons may look better in still images but when they start moving it looks robotic and unnatural.

The 3ds support is very strong. Far stronger than the PSvita support. The Wii U will be 1080p 60fps because you care so much about numbers. But Nintendoland is actually better than people who haven’t played it says (source, info from people who’ve ACTUALLY played it)

Nintendo was actually failing with arcades before Miyamoto turned up, yes. But that proves nothing else but that Nintendo has Miyamoto to thank for their success and no one has ever denied that. And because Miyamoto is a part of Nintendo.

Nintendo isn’t exaclty the first ones to be sued by Lego. And Nintendo is actually the ones that is the least responcible for ripping of. Or what do you say to defend yourself PS move? And what about you X-box controller? And well, you to PS1? And pretty much every controller with a Joystick, shoulderbutton, the 4 button combo.

Okay, i’m gonna be honest here: Does it even fucking matter if Nintendo is the most powerful? Does it matter if they don’t compete the same way? Not really. Either way we’re going to get some neat experiences from all three leading consoles.
It’s not like we have commonly available 4000p TVs to upgrade our graphics to. Given how expensive it already is to develop a game, and how cheaply developed polygons are to save processing power, I doubt the ‘next generation’ is going to be here soon to begin with. All we can do at this point is make the processing better so that the polygons won’t lag the shit out of games.
I love my Wii out of the 3 consoles I have, so I dont really care rather Nintendo’s WiiU is a beast or not, I’m mainly looking forward to what sort of innovated gameplay they’ll come up with the WiiU..

I don’t browse this too often, but sometimes I notice in the comments sections people who like writing big names and commenting constantly as if they are basement-dwellers with nothing better to do. People buy games and consoles for ‘fun’. Now, fun is generally considered to be related to SMILING. Would people buy a console if they didn’t get fun (and therefore SMILES) out of it? No.

I rather enjoy a system for games rather than specs. Specs are nice, but the gameplay is what counts the most. I am with Nintendo on this one.
I am seeing way too many people bashing Nintendo on here. Seriously, you dogs need to appreciate them. Okay, I like the PS3, but honestly, that system is nothing compared to whatever Nintendo makes. These guys innovate and take risks to improve on what they create to make it better. Blood, war, and violence? Nintendo doesn’t need that!

I have to admit that is funny. I definitely have more games for my PS3 and, imho, it’s the best system this gen as it does have multi-platform game AND exclusives, although I still enjoyed the Wii.

This is more of Nintendo’s pre-excuses for when we find out the specs and realize they’re not even close to what a console that is 7 years newer than the XBOX360 should be. Trying to convince us graphics don’t matter.
Well they do. They’re not the only thing that matters, but they do matter. The lack of third party games on the original Wii as compared to the other consoles proves that.
Considering Nintendo isn’t a failing company as some claim (really, it’s not) this is A-OK.
I owned every handheld from nintendo, played on almost every nintendo console, have ps1 and ps2, and i must say i did not buy ps3 but instead i bought wii and bunch of games an controllers, because i simply love the games from nintendo. you say you are a hardcore gamer? well it sure is easy to play HC AAA titles with auto-aim… i play my nintendo handhelds and consoles when i simply want to waste some time playing and have fun, when it comes to AAA titles, i play on computer..
