Separate Audio For Wii U Gamepad And TV Confirmed

Toki Tori developers Two Tribes have confirmed on Twitter that they have managed to get separate audio working for the Wii U GamePad and the television. The development studio has yet to decide how to use this feature, but there’s sure to be some interesting ideas floating around.

“We’ve got the first audio code running on Wii U. You can send separate audio to game pad and TV. Not sure yet if and how we can use that.”

    1. I loved that feature on the Wii remote. It just added that nice little extra to your game. Even Sakurai used it in Smash Bros when you select a character when using just the wii remote. Man, he uses Nintendo hardward to the fullest extent. Can’t wait for SSB4

    2. I thought it was confirmed ages ago (maybe E3 2011) for Aliens: Colonial Marines? The controller acts a sonar type thing, and in the trailer it kept beeping and it sped up when Xenomorphs got closer and stuff. A simple feature, but pretty cool.

      1. But the wii remote wasn’t much of a
Speaker, it just played simple little files, but with the gamepad you will be able to hear full sound track and ect not just sound effects

        1. That’s not true. In Silent Hill: SM, it acted as a speaker of a phone. You could hear people talking and also a ringtone. It definatly played more than soundeffect.

              1. Oh no a bully! Hahaha more like ps move supporter and u can’t defend ur self do us a favor and change ur name ur a disappointment.

                    1. I’ve changed my nick name for ever.My nick name will remain wiiU’s supporter or my true name Peter…for now

    1. This kicker here is separate audio. The Headphone Jack and the speakers could have just mirrored audio from the TV.

  1. The best use of this on the Wii was in No More Heroes where the speaker in the Wii remote was used like a phone to deliver mission information.

More things like that would be very welcome.

          1. I prefer the first one more than the second one (gave you more freedom to do what you want) but they are both simply amazin games and you wont regret givin them a try. You can pick them both up for at least $20 at a gamestop store

  2. It should be like that in the first place right? What do they mean separate sound? Different musicals of tunes, ect.

  3. What a huge piece of shit ..who wants a console that has current gen graphics , huge bulky controller , no hard drive LOL , shit 3rd party support , crappy online …This gay piece of shit will fail :)

    1. That’s the same BS you and every other hater under the sun spouted about the 3DS, Wii, and the original DS.
The DS out-sold EVERYTHING you own except the PS2[and it’s close to doing that as we speak so enjoy that pressure bitch!], and the 3DS is well on its way to doing the same.
To top that off, the Wii, a system for casuals, beat the living hell out of the PS3 you masturbate to in sales despite being “better”.
You don’t know what quality is. You don’t know what fun is.
      And to make matters worse?
      You suck at trolling.
How does it feel to have people pity you and play along with your antics instead of taking you seriously, pussy boy?
On second thought, don’t answer that.
You don’t know what honesty is and only honest answers count for jack shit. You’re not smart enough to know the truth from your weak-ass sissy la-la trolling style anyways, so you’d just be wasting your time by trying.

      1. The goal for any troll is to stir enough emotion to reply back. Hardly a failure, especially given your lengthy reply.

        1. Either you didn’t read the reply all the way through, or you don’t understand the concept of a “play-along-pity reply”.

    2. Current gen graphics? Pikmin 3 already has better graphics than ALL Cartoon games of this gen and it was just a demo. Ever heard of Classic Controller? How is that a problem? You can buy a hard drive that has way more storage. He launch looks better than any system yet. The online it’s not even finished. Gee, at least come with intelligent arguments, dumbass.

      1. Pikmin 3 looks horrible ..wtf are u talking about ? LOL how can that be the best looking cartoon game ??looks like ass , and you guys say Microsoft sucks even though Nintendo copied the 360 controller ..and the launch games are old ports ..whats your point ?

        1. Tell me 4 CARTOON games that look better than Pikmin 3. Kameo and Viva Pinata ( God, what a PoS) don’t look better than Pikmin 3!

        2. Well the 360 copied Nintendo take away the the analogs, the d-pad, the four buttons on the right, and the shoulder and what do you get?

    3. I find it ironic when you said it will fail I know you were a fail. When I first saw you on SSB64 I said “who the hell is this”. I never knew you were a nintendo character. I see why you hate them now.
Back on topic, the wii u has better graphics, the controller is sleek, smooth, and comforitable. The Wii U is NOT a computer, the third party support was originally of the Ps Vita, and finally you haven’t seen the online service but its been said that the Wii U’s messanging system is better than th Xbox WHICH has the best onilne service. Do you need anything more to say?

      1. The controller looks like ass and is bulky and huge ..Wtf ? How can anyone be excited about this disaster !! This is going to fail like the titanic

          1. NINTEDO releases new controllers.
SONY & microsoft:ALWAYS THE SAME CONTROLLER
            Science gets improve ya know

      2. HEY! Don’t you talk about one of my favorite Nintendo characters like that. This troll should be ashamed for even namin himself after such an underappreciated icon.

    1. If the wii u can stream live tv on the gamepad it will be curtains for sony and microsoft. Oh no wait, thats right, they would copy it.

      1. The Wii U game pad(the black one) looks like its a huge finger print magnet. I’m still getting it. The Wii U looks better and better the more I see it.

          1. True, but I still would have preferred it if they’d make the gamepad just like the gamecube controller (as for materials I mean), I like black better as a console color and this way there’s no fingerprint issue at all. We wouldn’t have anything to solve, which – in my opinion – would be much better.

  4. This is how to use it.
If (you play a porn game or if) you are watching porn the real audio will come out the TV.
But if your mom comes in you shut off the TV and she hears you playing Zelda or hearing music and thinks you are doing anything except porn or even though you are still watching porn.
    I know I am a genius.

          1. By the way you should talk less about Greece because without them and their ancient ancestors, computers, buildings, science wouldn’t exist for GOOD

          2. That comment was extremely racist, homophobic and incorrect in so many ways, and all in eleven words. I am disgusted, yet impressed, at your idiocy.

  5. Sickr, I wish you hadnt taken away the psVita blog. I enjoyed hearin news about the Vita and it kept a lot of biased people in certain blogs. Is there any chance you’ll bring it back up?

      1. Yeah a while back when he first got this site up and runnin he had a vita blog also. It was nice that we could live in Unity, but then he said he no longer had interest in the Vita, so now it’s only Nintendo News

        1. Maybe it’s because the Vita isn’t picking up speed yet, if it ever does?
Not much to report about it other than negativity lately, from what I’ve heard recently, so it’s not surprising that he discontinued it.
Maybe if Sony does something right with it and people regain interest in owning one, the blog will start up again.

    1. I don’t have any plans to bring it back I’m afraid. I just didn’t have the time for it and wanted to concentrate my efforts on building this site up.

      1. Aww that’s disappointin, but very understandable. I do appreciate your efforts, though. Must be hard keepin sites like these runnin

        1. Yeah, it is. I enjoy it though and I’m glad you guys appreciate it. Weekend gives me plenty of time to catch up on gaming which is always nice :-)

          1. Haha yeah gotta appreciate them weekends. Well good day to you, sir and keep up the good work. Same goes to Alba, also (is alba a guy or girl?)

  6. That’s a very cool feature. i can’t wait to see how future games will make use of it. Maybe friends can leave audio messages for you to help you survive in Zombi U. Leave luck to heaven.

    1. Awesome idea. Or detecting a weak spot in a wall by knocking on it. If the sound comes from the tv means it shows no weakness but if it comes from the wii u pad means u can blow up that section to get by. Just an example.

  7. What I wonder is what happens when you plug headphones into the gamepad. Will you hear all the sounds from the game, or just the sounds that are designed to only come out of the gamepad…

  8. I suppose that makes sense, e.g if we wanted to play a Wii U game when someone else is using the tv, but we wanted a bit of sound from the game. Or similarly if we were playing a Wii game just on the game pad (see earlier article) we would want sound. So that’s good! :)

  9. This was already a feature on Wii through the Wii Remote speakers, but it was only for low quality sounds such as launching a star bit in Mario Galaxy, selecting a character in Brawl and the constant beeping of Fi trying to talk to you. The Wii U should definitely be able to produce higher quality sounds and utilise the feature better thanks to the seperate screen.

  10. I just can’t wait until I can finally use my 205$ studio headphones with the pro :3 im gonna be a happy camper
