Nintendo “Truly Committed To Their Online Strategy” With Wii U

Two Tribes’ Toki Tori 2 will be released this year as a downloadable title from Steam and the Wii U eShop. Two Tribes co-founder Collin van Ginkel says that Toki Tori 2 is being developed for Nintendo’s new system because of three reasons: the brand-new Wii U GamePad, the console’s powerful hardware, and the supposition that Nintendo is committed to its online strategy with the Wii U.

Moving onto Wii U specifically, can you share why you chose to release this on Nintendo’s new system?

“A new controller, more powerful hardware and a Nintendo that seems truly committed to their online strategy. What more could we wish for!”

Are we correct in assuming that this is a download title? If so, what are your impressions so far, if any, of the eShop setup on Wii U?

“It will most definitely be a downloadable title. We haven’t released a boxed game since 2008 and don’t plan on doing that anytime soon. As for the shop, I commend Nintendo for moving forward with new features such as full downloads of retail titles, which bodes well for the future.”

    1. While some games I will buy will be digital however collectible hardcopies for Zelda and metroid will be a must.

    2. I’ll be getting some as digital others not. It’s determined on how long I plan to own the title. If it’s a shot in the dark, likely the disc so I can trade it if I dislike it. No brainer games will be definitely digital.

    3. Nintedward . Wiiu . 3ds . 1991 .

only shitty small games like these , real games nead real cases.
look at kingdom hearts mark of mastery edition. that game poo splatted on the idea of some data for the same price . i want the data and some factory smelling tree and plastic aswell.

      1. Either you’re sucking Sony or Microsoft’s dick, or you enjoy playing games online for $50? What you’ve failed to realize that Nintendo will have digital downloads from first and third party publishers and developers and independant developers. Toki Tori 2 is one of them as well as Trine 2: Director’s Cut.

a gimmik that works very well and can be turned off. and is a selling point.
            like it or not.
            gtfo now trole cake .

the ps vita is a gimmik. ipod touch screen , horrible AR , crap motion , a laptop mouse on the back . no stylus , horrible shovel spin off games. it just keep getting worse.
the 3ds is a settled platform with awesome softeware about to hit full flight and wipe the ds’s sales records off the chart.
little deviants is a gimmik . resident evil and monster hunter isnt.

            1. “ipod touch screen”

Lol, you are such a fucking idiot with the most shitty methods of defense I’ve ever seen employed, it’s embarrassing.

It’s no wonder Nintendo fanboys are made fun of.

          2. Sad to tell you angry blackman but nintendo stated it will be in its next gen handheld so you’re entry involved

          3. Hey shit for brains… 3D without glasses is the way of the future. Get fucking used to it will ya? It’s Nintendo’s choice to have games presented in 3D. If they want to do a game without 3D, there’s always room for Nintendo DS.

      2. If anything, Sony & Microsoft games are more likely to have “barely any gameplay”. I like to call them movie games, ’cause they’re so realistic and filled with cutscenes, that you might as well make it a movie instead of a game.

  1. Good to hear, when someone who releases their games digitally commends it, i have faith. Now i want to see Miiverse interface and online games and im all set

  2. Online’s gonna be a big part of Wii U with Miiverse. I’m more of an offline gaming kind of dude, but who knows? I may get into it. Leave luck to heaven.

    1. When it’s released in November, it’s gonna change. The Nintendo Network will be a much better online service that’s better than Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection used in Wii, DS and 3DS. With the Nintendo Network, it does everything.

  3. Still curious to see if they decided on the optional subscriptio service, like PSN plus, would joing that in a heart beat if it had exclusive content, discounts and freebies

  4. I won’t download. I want an actual copy in my hands…to hold. I want to be able to flip through manual in booklet form. There is a lot to be said about the old days.

  5. I just wish Nintendo was this commited of being more Environmentaly Friendly aswell.

Then they could also show that you can be succesfull, fun and responsible all at the same time.

    1. Yeah a source would be nice…
There was a video a while back before E3 what was basically Versus 13 renamed to FF15, and at the end it has a PS3 and WiiU logo

  6. With the new Pokemon 3DS XL, I will now most certainly wait for more colors.
    Because they ARE coming.
And my Black 3DS is sexy. It’s also more portible. (It also has lines from the lower screen… GRAWER!!!) – But I still like it.

  7. Can’t they just let us download a game from our disc into a hard drive plugged into the console. That way we can play them without inserting the disc? The I would NEVER buy a download version of a game.
