Developer Claims Nintendo Makes Video Game Development Look Easy

Hello Games, the developer of Joe Danger – a racing game inspired by Nintendo’s Excitebike for NES, thinks that Nintendo makes video game development look effortless. For example, the developer believes Super Mario Galaxy has so much content that an entire game can be made out of just five minutes of playtime with the Wii title.

“What we always talk about is a kind of ‘Nintendo-y’ feel. The Nintendo thing for me is they make it look effortless – they just throw in things. If you’re playing Mario Galaxy, you’re like, ‘That one five minutes, most people would make that an entire game.’ That’s what I really want so badly for people to play unicycle – or any of those … we’ve got skis and it’s only like two levels – you want someone to play that and think, ‘This could’ve been a whole game and I would’ve played it. You know what I mean? But I’ve just had this one little nugget, and it’s left me wanting more. And they move on to the next thing, and the next thing, and they feel like – when they unlock a level – ‘I wonder what this one’s gonna be.’ So we’ve really stuck to that.”

super mario galaxy 1 and 2 combined have more unique ideas then the entire IOS library.
nintendo is the best developer of games. by far , noof said.

obviously not the playful preditable repetative loved story.
the mind blowing game play which blows your mind every 4 and a half minutes.
mario galaxy 1 and 2 are the best use of wii remote today.

          1. Nintedward . Wiiu . 3ds . 1991 .

            skyward sword is also perfect.
galaxy 2 just seems masterful between the pointing and shaking and all the other things the wii remote asks you to do.
galaxy 2 is slightly more perfect than skyward sword.

            1. I personally thought Skyward Sword could have been better. I really doesn’t match up to OoC, TP, or WW in my opinion.

              1. TP is my favourite, although it has the slowest start IMO. But once you get into the Forest Temple, its incredible. Wind Waker was good but too short, and Ocarina is classic. SS was good, for gameplay and story, but it lacked that Zelda freedom.

                1. I completely agree with that last part. I personally thought it was on par with Twilight Princess, but TP was a revolutionary game for its time. Wind Waker has been my favourite since its release just because it’s so vast with the ocean and by far the greatest music in the series (my opinion). Ocarina of Time pushes into my favourite four, just because it was so far ahead of its time and revolutionised the gaming industry altogether.

                  1. Yeah.
                    When

                    is

                    1. Yeah, that’s why TWW is my favourite. I just love it more than any other Zelda game and I can just sit down and play the entire game in one sitting because I love it that much.

  2. i kinda see what he meant at the end.. i was playing NSMB2 yesterday and i put it down servial times but always went back cuz i was like.. i wanna play the next level..

    1. Nintedward . Wiiu . 3ds . 1991 .

i havent put it down for 3 days !!!!
spoiler = the game keeps getting better . even after you finish.

  4. Nintendo makes it easy Cuzco they have the type of people that say. “What would be fun to add to the 3D Mario ” unlike don’t where they buy people to make games and buy the ones that look good

        1. Correction, they’ve been losing developers since they went off track. They lost it all around the time of the Dreamcast, and over the past 10 years since then, the best developers have all been leaving for other companies.

  5. Well, Nintendo always do their stuff. They make a game, get excellent reviews, and that’s how it is with most their games. I guess that’s why Nintendo is my favourite developer. It’s rare that I get disappointed with them.

  6. It’s all part of the “Nintendo magic” :>
Really looking forward to see what kind of Mario they’ve planned for Wii U!

    1. Ditto, plus, although not really important, Mario Galaxy was gorgeous, on a slightly better “gamecube”. This is on system better than the ps3. *droll*

      1. Motherfuckers took Mario TO SPACE this gen!! It’s amazing what they managed to accomplish on the hardware that they did(awful hardware, lets be honest). My head swims imagining the next entries in their core franchises!!! That Zelda tech demo was only a glimpse(running on weaker earlier hardware), Mario bros. U (IMO was rushed to launch because of its selling power), and pikmin 3 was originally a Wii game(still looks great for an early title). We haven’t seen shit! I’m HYPEED!

        1. It wast shit, it was just old. The NES is still great hardware, just old :p

And im waiting for Retro to show their game. I mean, Prime 3 looked absolutley incredible considering the Wii’s power. And if the game theyre making is Star Fox, thats goin look insane, and is a perfect game to show case the WiiU, its fast, its gona make brilliant lighting effects with the lasers, space and various planet locations, scifi in general is the best way to show case graphics, i cant wait :D

  7. And it’s because of Nintendo I have a high content expectation for games. I don’t know why, but 20 hours seems about the minimum for me…

    1. I cant stress that enough. Game was Nintendo systems are just worth my £40, unlike the majority of the game i bought on my ps3. And the best thing is, i actually want to play them again, ive played Prime 3 about 5 times over, same with TP and SS, and Mario Galaxy. There are exceptions, like Bioshock, Fallout 3, Ratchet and Clank, but still.

      1. The original levels in SM3DL are about 5 hours, but then there’s the 10 hours of special levels and then 20+ hours to get all the coins.

  8. It’s Nintendo; they’ve got their own unique style.
A GREAT style, I might add. Both financially and in gameplay terms.
They know what works, they know what sells, and they use both to their utmost.

  9. This is exactly what Derek of CGR Undertow said in his review of SMG2: There’s more inspired ideas in a few minutes of that game than some games see in their entirety. Incredibly true, and even more amazing considering how (as Hello Games pointed out) they make it look so easy.

    1. The amount of ideas in just Super Mario Galaxy amass to far more than some game developing companies have in their entire libraries.

    1. Twilight Princess is criticised for the same reason Ocarina of Time is praised. They were ahead of their times. Swap Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess’ releases, and they would have received so much more praise, just because Skyward Sword was released during an era of open-world games, while Twilight Princess was released whilst most games were linear.

  10. Nintendo usually makes their games simplistic, yet fun.

You don’t need to have a character that looks like they’ve been on steroids to be creative. Sometimes the most easy and simplistic ways work best which is why I think developers are looking at Nintendo think “Hm, they making games development look easy”.

I love Nintendo for they’re games and consoles.
