Wii U will be powered by a CPU which features three IBM Power PC Cores, an AMD series 7 GPU and 1GB of memory available to games. The console’s CPU is apparently formed of three IBM Power PC cores of an undefined clock speed, though reports suggest this to be lower than the Xbox 360 and PS3. The developers also say that the machine has 1GB of RAM available to games which is approximately twice that of the Xbox 360. The GPU is a custom AMD 7 series, supporting shader type 4 and DX10 type features, with embedded eDRAM.

the slider pad is no different then then the one on the PSP in my opinion. I honestly do like the sticks on the vita, I can controll fast paced games a lot easier. The 3DS XL is no fucking different then the 3DS other then the larger size. I have 3 games on my 3DS, 1 of which I actualy play often enough (that is mario kart) I will have no more then 3 games for it until main pokemon games are made for it. No one said the the CPU is weaker, it might be clocked a smidge lower. Clockspeed only says so much, the architecture for those CPU’s are far more advanced and efficient than the ps3 and 360’s. Dont be surprised when you hear about 720 and PS4 and their clockspeed isnt 10X faster. It doesnt work that way.

PRAISE THE LORD the gpu is directx10 compatible. if it was only directx9 like the xbox and ps3, i would be somewhat confused lol. it is a shame with the cpu, but considering how most games now are more gpu intensive rather than cpu intensive, it doesnt really matter. all you really need is two cores, it just depends on how high the clock-speed is.
and also, the fact that it supports shader type 4 is GREAT. my gtx 670 supports shader type 5, so being just one notch bellow a top of the line card is pretty great.

The Wii U is officially next gen. The graphics are better although maybe in some cases just a little better. The same thing for Unreal Engine 4…it may just be a minor improvement over Unreal 3 (particle effects)…but it is a next generation engine. We can all agree that even though 7 years has passed…leaps in graphics are getting smaller and smaller…until quantum computing comes around.
Wii U is next gen for my reasons about plus that GPU is boss! Those are the two reasons why it is next gen.
Next gen should just stick to U3 engine -.- U4 isnt going to run well at all, its be the same watered down mess that U3 was this gen.

Engines these days are now prioritizing dynamic lighting, where the lighting is not pre-calculated, but changes depending on circumstances. Fox engine is doing this, so is UE4. That’s pretty awesome. If you notice with current-gen games, the lighting always remains in a fixed position

If the PS4 and 720’s specs eclipse this by a lot, I’m jumping ship. Some of the developers whose games I loved are now making games for the so-called “next-gen,” and I’m still wondering which they’re referring to: The next-gen with Wii U in it, or the next-gen with only PS4 and 720 in it? If the next-gen includes the Wii U, then I’ll just get that. If the next-gen blows past the Wii U though, I have no choice, I have to switch consoles. Nothing is impossible, and for the PS4 and 720 to be miles more powerful than the Wii U is not an impossible scenario.

overall it is powerful. lower CPU clocks doesn’t mean it’s weak. Some games utilizes clock speeds, more than available core, hence “may” suffer too some degree, who knows how much. but good optimization can solve it, or at least reduce that “suffering”.

That CPU is kind of sad. The 360’s CPU was outdated by 2008, and this is going to be a huge bottleneck if the Wii U’s isn’t much better. There are really good AMD 7 series GPUs, but that covers a wide range of performance levels, and I’m sure the Wii U is using a weaker one, considering its speculated price point. 1GB of RAM is also now.
I was expecting the console to be weak, but this is a little disappointing, if it’s real. Not that the hardware is as important as the games, but still.

Sorry for being a little slowpoke, but what’s the type of midia they’re using on the Wii U again? I heard it was something like a “super huge DVD” with 20 gb or something like that. Maybe it has something to do with the CPU capacity, right? I mean, games should adapt to their own midia: no wonder the PS3 graphics looks a tiny bit better than 360, if you put your TV on HDMI.
It’s basically a reverse-engineered Blu-ray disc. So they won’t have to pay the royalties to Sony, etc. Panasonic will probably have them written the same way as they did Wii discs.

I think this might explain the low CPU. I’m not sure if the Wii U will use Nvidia’s CUDA architecture, or if it can even be applied to consoles, but if so, than perhaps this could be the reason.

This is releatively good news, the graphics should last long enough, the cpu is OK, it could be better but it’ll get the job done. DX 10 support is good, I was hoping for dx11 like the 720 but this is great considering it should have a low price. I’m really hoping the cpu doesn’t hamper the size and scale of games and the AI. I think I am convinced now that Wii U is substantially stronger than current-gen consoles. Forget that, of course it’s stronger. My question, however, is will Wii U get most multi-platform titles from both current-gen and next-gen? Good software makes a system appealing. If you want surprise, you will need to wait until at least the middle of its first year or so of life.

I laughed when the move came out. If sony didn’t have the exclusives they have I wouldn’t even bother. But they have them cuz they throw money at everything.
