Rare Employees Would Have Stuck With The Company If Still With Nintendo

Famed Rare employee Chris Seavor has confessed that a number of high-profile Rare employees would have stayed with the company had they not been bought out by Microsoft in 2002. Seavor says that Rare founders, Chris and Tim Stamper, would have stayed with the company, rather than pursuing other opportunities.

If Rare were still with Nintendo today, do you think the company would have still been the same as it was all those years ago?

“Pretty much. Tim and Chris would still be around, Mark B, Simon, loads of other people who subsequently left as well… Even me maybe :) A company isn’t defined by bricks and mortar. It’s a people thing, so yeah , bar a few tweaks it would have been pretty much the same, both the good and the bad.”

          1. I’m doing this to see how stupid you are. Next time you see a troll or fag posting shit like this IGNORE THEM. Don’t give them the satisfaction of a reply.

            1. Yes yes plz don’t reply to them! trust me it really works!! i tried it a few times and got nothing, might still try though! lol

        1. Well, I have time to waste, so I’ll take the… err… “honour” of doing so.

“AND NINTENDO WAS DOING BETTER WITH RARE THAN MICROSOFT WHO JUST PUBLISHES CRAP LIKE NUTS AND BOLTS!”

You know, that didn’t even feel worth doing. :/

  1. Then how about you quit, and make you’re own damn company? Its not like you won’t find work, you’re Rare, hire the old composer bac and any old staff members then go back to making GOOD games, rather than all the shite you made for the 360.

    1. Yeah because that’s so easy to do in this day and age. /sarcasm

Do you know how fucking expensive it can get to start a company?

      1. Indie developers. Nuff said.
Besides, these guy probably work for another company anyway, but they should still band together with old Rare and start again with Nintendo. Rare is just a name, the real Rare lies within the employees.

    2. Personally i liked every game they made on the 360, except for perfect dark zero.(haven’t tried kinect sports yet)
But it’s true, compared to the olden days.

  2. If only they weren’t bought out by Microsoft they would of been fine with Nintendo. But thanks to Microsoft they’ve turned them to crap, I just hope they get back with Nintendo Officially again and try regain that honour they once had which made them a great company who makes good games.

          1. U dumb or what? Rarware is now better? WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??

U talking about “kiddy games” and still saying that Rare is today better?

            omg omg omg

Yeah, I wish Microsoft never bought out Rare, they’ve completely destroyed the company. They would’ve been better off with Nintendo.

    1. Awesome picture haha. And Nintendo could do great things with Banjo Kazooie and Perfect Dark. Maybe someday Nintendo could get those IPs but until then I can dream.

      1. LISTENT IDIOT!NINTENDO LET RARE TO BE BOUGHT BECAUSE THEY SAID THAT RARE WAS DOING BAD GAMES WHICH IS TRUTH!ALSO THAT MEENS THAT NINTENDO NEVA CARED FOR THE GAMER THEY WANT ONLY UR MONEY!

            1. Oh good! You know how to use the caps lock button! Congradulations! Also, Microsoft can’t survive if it wasn’t for Nintendo and SONY.

        1. they weren’t doing really bad, they were taking too long with development and there were risks involved because of the huge stake they had in shares. much similarly how parts of activision might get sold off. sometimes this happens, i hate when it does, but it happens. if RARE starts getting even worse with microsoft i wouldn’t be surprised if they closed them down or restructured again.

    1. So you are a Nintendo lover that speaks to Raul up ninty fans. You know well that ms is a bad company. No vision and thus should stick to windows only.

      1. I think that Microsoft is a good company, just not the Xbox division. I think the Xbox 360 is alright but could have been done better, but it’s not like the Wii was a golden god compared to the rest. The fanboys here seem to think the Wii had so many less flaws than the other companies, but I’d say it’s probably even.

    2. Perfectly? Do you know how much loved Rare was before they switched to Microsoft? Lots of developers left the company because Microsoft didn’t let them do the games they tried to create. When Rare tried to make a Killer Instinct, Microsoft made them do casual games. I’ve seen interviewed ex-Rare developers saying that they lost lots of creative ideas to attend Microsoft’s demands on making half-hearted casual games. Rare is not doing perfect with Microsoft, and I doubt they’re even well. At best, they’re more or less.

    3. SOMETIMES I WONDER IF YOU CAN READ SMALL LETTERS, SO I WILL TELL YOU THIS IN CAPITAL LETTERS. MICROSOFT HAS DROVE THAT STUDIO INTO ROCK BOTTOM. THEY ALMOSY ONLY ALLOWS THEM TO DESIGN CRAPPY KINECT GAMES. NO WONDER WHY ALL BIG GUYS LEFT THE COMPANY YEARS AGO.

and now with small letters (so zigfried can’t read it) he needs to get a life…

  3. Ahhh, so true.

That means the original team who where with Rare at the time during the time they were with Nintendo actually enjoyed it. Well, I wish everyone from the original Rare time the best of luck.

    Microsoft…. just die already.

    1. Microsoft..just buy shitendo already,..
hmmmm wait a sec…rare has not all old rares developers where are the others!?

    2. Maybe instead of going back to RARE the original members can work at Retro I mean Retro has a decent development record to me, they made the Prime series and brought Donkey Kong back to home consoles in glorious 2d platforming.

  4. Rare is the best with Microsoft. Donkey Kong country and all the rest of those baby games are FUCKING SHIT ON NINTENDO PLATFORMS AND DO TERRIBLE IN SALES BECAUSE ONLY NARROW MINDED FUCKWIT FANBOYS WANT IT

RARE OF TODAY DESTROYS THE REST IN SALES. YOU FUCKING FANBOYS ALWAYS GO ON ABOUT SALES SO THERE YOU HAVE IT

RARE ARE THE BEST NOW GO FUCK YOURSELVES YOU FUCKING FANBOYISH CUNTS!

FUCKING PEACE YOU PIECES OF DOG SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!

    1. oh, grow up, you immature. The one that looks like a baby is you with that kind of comment. Maybe you didn’t exist on the Nintendo 64 generation.

  5. They should team up with Nintendo again, since the last few games for the 360 have been best sellers, but the reviews have not been so good, excluding Kinect Sports (which I enjoy playing). They need to get back since I would like to see Banjo-Kazooie back on a Nintendo console/handheld other than an Xbox.

  6. microsoft hasn’t had rare do anything useful. Instead of having them make good games like banjo kazooie and stuff they’re having them make kinect sports and crap. It’s just a total waste of creativity

  7. I would wonder what will happen to RARE without Nintendo, Will Microsoft still bought it? Will RARE gonna make games?
Remember, Nintendo is always the Root on Video Gaming today.
Nintendo gave birth to a rivalry with Sony and created and gave birth the PlayStation which one of the best series of console this decade.
Nintendo started motion control gaming with the Wii and years later, all platforms have motion control gaming.
Nintendo restarted the Video Game Aura on North America which also follows the all consoles generation RE-Birth.
I guess without Nintendo, Sony nor Microsoft nor RARE are making games and consoles today.

  8. It is sad to see what has become of Rare. Microsoft only bought them to hurt Nintendo. Microsoft even tried to buy Nintendo when they entered the game industry. Laughable. Leave luck to heaven.

    1. They did not buy rare to hurt Nintendo. Nintendo owned 49 percent of Rare and the company with 51 percent sold to Microsoft. Nintendo did not want to own less than half a company with the direct competition so they sold to Microsoft.

      1. Why would Microsoft buy half of a development company 49% owned by one of their direct competitors in the console gaming industry? Rare was Nintendo’s best 2nd party dev at the time. Even if Nintendo did hold on to it’s shares, that would’ve meant Rare’s games would no be exclusive to Nintendo, which will, in turn hurt Nintendo.

  9. I can’t blame them for leaving the day they found out MS bought them I mean look at RARE’s current logo compared to their original like MS sucked the fun out of them and turned them into cyborgs running on Windows lol. And aside from that Perfect Dark Zero was crap,Grab by the ghoulies may have been Rare’s worst game ever and how do you change a classic adventure platformer like Banjo Kazooie into a boring lego kart game nuts and bolts had none of the development charm Banjo-Kazooie and tooie had and Kinect and instead of having Rare work on the decent ips you have left you force them to work on unwanted Kinect games.

  10. I think the best option for them would be to have them all leave Rare and join Retro! Most of the best former Rare employees have already done so, and it would bring them all back together and then some, WITH Nintendo. Considering how great some of the games by Retro are already, you can imagine the possibilities! :D And Nintendo wouldn’t have to give up hundreds of millions of dollars to buy the company back. :)

    1. Davin (aka Platinum Lucario)

Btw, it’s impossible to buy a company that already has ownership from another company, unless the company puts the company publicly listed. Microsoft is a private business. When it’s privately listed, it means it can’t be acquired. No matter how rich you are.

      1. That’s why I’m saying that Rare employees should just quit, rather than waiting for Nintendo to buy them back (which doesn’t look likely unless Microsoft changes). Even as a private business, they can’t force people not to quit their job.

  11. Don’t a lot of former Rare employees now work at Retro? Can you imagine if the game they announce is a rebirth of Banjo-Kazooie? Never played the games myself but a lot of people seem to have high praise for them.

  12. bought out by Microsoft. Oh now I hate them mow -_-. Rare bought out such wicked games specially on N64 from golden eye to Diddy kong racing.

  13. Before Microsoft even came to the picture, I know that employees had already started leaving shortly after the release of Goldeneye. Free Radical was created out of this. While I do think that they were better off with Nintendo, I don’t think they could have achieved the same success as they did back in the day.

  14. Rare hasnt been the same seen they made those masterpieces for the n64. Nintendo should try to get them back, loved perfect dark. Needs to be on a nintendo system
