Paper Mario Sticker Star Details Emerge From Nintendo Power

The latest edition of US gaming publication Nintendo Power has plenty of new and exciting information relating to Nintendo’s forthcoming 3DS title, Paper Mario: Sticker Star. There’s a lot of content covered, including story details, battle details and level structure. You can read the full summary here.

  • World looks like it’s composed of paper and cardboard
  • Arts-and-craft project feel is emphasized
  • Bridge is folded up like an accordion and sealed with a sticker
  • Peeling the sticker away causes the paper to realistically bounce upward before settling down
  • Paper characters can be flown around, folded, and crumpled
  • All of these can be used against you during battle
  • Enemies may roll themselves up into a cone to prevent you from jumping over them
  • Other enemies fold themselves like a card to double the enemies
  • First world boss: Goomba that combines with a troupe of his minions to form a giant Goomba with Megasparkle strength
  • Koopa Troopas fold up into their shells like origami
  • Has humor like previous Paper Marios
  • Paper nature of the characters/environments is used for gags
  • Nintendo Power says the dialogue is consistently clever

    1. I cannot wait for this game ^^ . We have paper mario , professor layton and pokemon (DS) to play on 3ds before wiiu ^_^ !!EPIC!! .

Looking forward to those 3ds pokemon apps , Dream radar and pokedex pro .
      Gunna be a riot !!

      1. Too many games. :(

For my 3DS I’m only picking up Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask in the next 2 months because I’ll have too many other things to play :/

But I’ll get Paper Mario soon thereafter. It’s sounding good!

        1. I hope to get Mario Sticker Star and Lego Lord of The Rings as well for my 3DS. But I’m looking forward for Rayman Legends and New Super Mario Brothers U for Wii U (maybe I can get ACIII too). Meanwhile, I still have to finish The Last Story, Epic Mickey (I know I’m late) and Rayman Origins (yeah, I do know I’m late). Also I have to consider my agenda of commitments, sleep and other things… Busy, but very promising end of 2012!

  1. The first world’s boss is a giant Goomba? That seriously pales in comparison to a freaking dragon as the boss of the first chapter in The Thousand Year Door… I’m going to be quite disappointed if the battle doesn’t have any sort of twists to it and turns out to be a glorified Goomba King.

    1. Maybe its just a boss in the first world and not THE first world boss. Its more likely the boss of the entire first world, but just saying.

      1. That was in TTYD’s prologue. The Goomba King was also a boss in the prologue of the original Paper Mario, which was acceptable considering it’s one of the first bosses you fight in the series. At this point in the series, I’d be annoyed if the giant goomba wasn’t just a miniboss fought partway through the first world and there isn’t a more unique boss waiting to fight you after you defeat it.

That said, I do think this game will be pretty good overall, but it isn’t trying to be unique in very many ways outside of the sticker mechanics.

  2. I never really got into the Sticker Mario games, but am curious as this one will be in 3D.

What’s the deal with Sticker Mario? That is, what is the appeal?

I’m on the fence! Knock me off! (either way)

      1. Well, at least I admitted to not playing or getting into them… :p

So. Cardboard / Paper / papyrus Mario! What’s the appeal?
(Maybe I’ll just see if there is a Demo when it is released. ;-)

        1. Well, as opposed to most other Mario games, the Paper Mario series is an RPG series. That means turn-based battles and a level system! The writing tends to be funny as hell, and it kinda uses the “paper” aspect for battles and such.

          1. Ah, thank you. I’m definately interested in the RPG aspect.

Maybe Paper Mario 3DS will be my first in the series!

    1. The Paper Mario series never fails to disappoint. They’re colorful storybook RPGs that are a blast to play. If you want the pinnacle of the series, I highly recommend Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door for Gamecube. That is, if Sticker Star doesn’t surpass it.

  3. very very excited for this game :). I was worried about the lack of partners or experience points but those feelings have subsided.

  4. Yah! Paper Mario is back and ready for action! I’m diggin’ it :) This added to Luigi’s Mansion and Animal Crossing makes the 3DS the best system ever. (I am exaggerating of course but still… AMAZING)

  5. .. pmsstar was unofficially delayed twice. i will get this one, for the dialogue alone. my 3dsxl shud keyp mii entertained at work yet besides, rerevelations has me onboard & i got re6 but, its not really my bag.
