Nintendo Drops Price Of Wii To $129.99, Includes Both Wii Sports And Wii Sports Resort

Nintendo is dropping the Wii console to a suggested retail price of $129.99 U.S. in advance of the busy holiday shopping season. The new configuration is beginning to arrive in stores now, and will be broadly available in the U.S. by Oct. 28. This high-value configuration includes a black Wii console and both Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort on a single game disc, as well as a Wii Remote Plus and a Nunchuk controller – both black to match the console. This configuration replaces the current black Wii that comes with New Super Mario Bros. Wii.

Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort represent two iconic games that helped pioneer the industry move toward motion-controlled video games. The games include a wide variety of sports that use the controllers in unique ways. Players can try their hand at sports like bowling, tennis, baseball, archery, table tennis and basketball, all while simulating real-life motions using the Wii Remote Plus controller. For the first time, both games are included on a single game disc.

“Nearly six years after it launched, people are still attracted to the pure, inclusive fun of the Wii console. A new suggested retail price and the inclusion of two great games make it an easy choice for families looking for a great value this holiday season.”

– Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing

    1. I don’t have one because I wasn’t playing many video games back then and only had a ps2 and snes for home consoles.I’m planning on getting a wii u and ps3 later.

    1. $149.99, but this new price encourages retailers to drop it to $99 more easily just like last year during the holidays or even lower.

  2. The wii is underated and hated by many fake hardcore gamers at the moment . The console has a Huge amount of Amazing exclusives and has served its purpose of fireing Nintendo back to the top. Wiiu will be a lot better , but wii is a great console if you know what your looking for .

I know for a fact I will still be buying and playing wii games on my wiiu for years to come :).

  3. Wii Sports Resort is pretty fun. But you’ll need a few motion plus controllers in order to play with friends and family.

      1. Yeah that sucks, but you have to understand something. Most likely everyone who would use the Wii for GameCube support already got it, everyone buying the Wii at this point or in the future is most likely a casual gamer who would’t use the GameCube support anyway. Besides, all core Nintendo fans are focused on the Wii U.

      2. You’re an ass. AKA, The hole of an ass. “Worthless” is pretty strict and narrow considering many people who purchase this will likely not be buying the Wii as a Gamecube replacement.

That said, I will very much miss the Gamecube functionality. I will always have to own a Gamecube or compatible Wii untill I get a remake or digital download of:

        ETERNAL DARKNESS

I personally would have paid an extra $25-40 for gamecube functionality. I would have paid an extea $50 if they would have upscaled. Probably not enough people like myself to make it profitable I suppose. :(

  4. Well I guess this is a good deal for people who can’t or couldn’t get a Wii U or those who doesn’t already own a Wii yet. My older Wii console works just fine, and I love it cause it stills plays my entire Gamecube library of games. I would be sad if my Wii system died on me like my Gamecube did.

  5. I still need a wii, ill either buy a wii U for backwards compatability, or I’ll Wait until wii becomes $99.99. Id rather get the wii U, but I really need to save up for the next xbox. Grrrr decisions…
