Nintendo has conceded that the Nintendo 3DS has failed to sell as many units as it had hoped outside of Japan and has subsequently slashed its profit forecasts by 70 per cent. Nintendo also announced an operating loss of ¥27,996, though this is an improvement on the ¥70,272m loss reported the year before.

Because people are waiting to buy the Wii U or waiting for it to come out and see it for themselves so no one is buying MS and PS systems right now. Just the announcement of the Wii U itself has slowed the sales of other consoles down.
Still…. it´s selling better than its predecessor, and waaaaayyy better than the Vita. Nintendo just put their expectations too high. They should expect 3DS to sell (after the price cut) as much as the original Ds, maybe a little less, but in reality they were expecting it to sell about 70 %. That´s unrealistic

Honestly the 3DS has yet to explode with content yet, although i expect that to change soon as Luigi’s Mansion, Animal Crossing and Castlevania hit the shelves.
Still got Metroid, WarioWare, Donkey kong, other 1st party titles (old or new) and of course, Pokemon, to even come out yet before anyone questions the 3DS’s success. The DS didnt boom until Pokemon and Brain Training appeared, if i remember correctly
Some very good points. When the 3DS can sport a NEW Zelda title, a Metroid, a DK, an F-Zero… in short, its franchise titles, it’ll be quite popular here in the States. And yes, a Pokemon title that is 3DS specific. Nintendo has made a phenomenal little unit here that is a lot of fun to play. Now they just need a better supply of awesome 1st party games.
This mainly because I’m not in the adverts. Once I, the great and all powerful Chuck Norris appears on an ad, everyone instantly buys the product.

Nintendo is still supporting DSi with Pokemon. Once Pokemon comes to 3DS, sales will explode, but with Black 2 and White 2 just having been released, I don’t see that happening soon. They need a good Donkey Kong game and sequel to Metroid Fusion and remake of Metroid 2 like they did with Zero Mission.

3ds is doing fine in sales volume , Nintendo is stil hurting cus they priced the console to high on release. They hardly make anything on each 3ds they sell right now , just off software. The 3ds IS on track to be the highest selling handheld console of all time and Nintendo will make more and more money as the installed base grows , look at what happened with the ps3 and 360 ??? same thing… they didn’t make money for 4 years..

It says “Nintendo has conceded that the Nintendo 3DS has failed to sell as many units as it had hoped” which means they havent sold as many as they want to, and as everybody should know, Nintendo usually place high expectations on how much hardware and software they want to sell. Just look at how many Wii U systems they expect to sell in their 1st year.
I like hoe after all these reports of the 3ds smashing everyone in Japan and how Nintendo is just dominating, they fail to discuss how Nintendo is doing every where else in the work. They are getting there shit pushed in by Microsoft and Sony in the states. =)

This is just a shame. I love my 3DS. I do take it with me lots of places when I’m out and about and sadly the only other units I tag are retail displays. This shows me that locally not a lot of folks in my city are carrying these things around. No wonder Nintendo loves Japan so much, they buy everything and embrace it =)

Not that this is an exact reason for poor 3DS sales in the west but I think I would be more compelled to play my 3DS if for instance MK7 was better…imo it was not much of an improvement over MKWii and I started to find the online kind of boring after reaching a few thousand VR. Sadly I haven’t been playing my 3DS a lot lately, but that will change once I get Luigi’s Mansion 2.
