Wii U GamePad 3D Capable?

Apparently, a project manager from Ubisoft said Wii U’s version of Assassin’s Creed III will be playable in full 3D – on both the television and Wii U GamePad’s screen with the help of special glasses. Although Nintendo President Satoru Iwata confirmed that Wii U is 3D capable, it hasn’t been divulged that the new controller’s screen can produce 3D images.

Thanks, nintedward3dswiiu.

        1. That’s fucking awesome ^_^!!!!!! Maybe some 3ds games will pop un the e-shop :) or maybe just some crazy 3d advertised compatible games :).

Just knowing that they could put 3d land on and you could see it like you can on 3ds is mind blowing on the gamepad!

      1. Probably, if you don’t mind 3D glasses like the red/blue kind. I seriously doubt that the gamepad is shutter 3D compatible.

        1. theres multipul types of 3d passive and active and old school it will support most but not all the passive system should be supported and the old school the kind of 3d nvidea do on standard screens with there gpu cards will easy be supported

                1. Not overpriced. Expensive would be a better word. And believe me, I absolutely love my 3DS, but the VITA has a significant leap in power and some pretty nice features.

                2. Apart from HD Graphics on a small screen, multi touch screen, rear touch pad, OLED screen, dual analog sticks and the fact it has more apps than the 3DS… so yeah your argument is invalid also the 3DS was overpriced at launch.. oh yeah you don’t remember that do you.

I love my gold plated Vita and my Platinum 3DS but the Vita just wins it by a mile because its more unique, the 3DS is just the DS with 3 at the start, 1 extra camera and a glassless 3D screen which is pretty low res.

Vita is basically a HD movie, game and music player

                    1. The 3ds is the winner. Its the best gaming device and it’s the one that brought the major innovations- streetpass, Augmented reality, 3D , 3D camera , Gyroscope , etc etc….

We can all watch true HD movies and music on our smart devices. We can even do this on our 3ds with Nintendo Sound and Netflix….

If people are going to start comparing the vita to the 3ds , come back when the vita has a compelling library of games not just Uncharted , Little big planet and gravity rush……

                      1. YES IT FUCKING IS. The OLED displays a resolution of 960×544 (540p) which is known as qHD or “Sub HD”. The very TEXTBOOK definition of high definition is anything above standard definition.

                        YOU. ARE. WRONG.

                        1. Aeolus Sucks Tretton's dyck!

YOU. ARE. WRONG. You enjoy sucking Jack Tretton’s dick very much. Why the fuck are you at My NINTENDO News’ blog, you fucking asshurt Sony dick rider? U mad because the Nintendo 3DS has more library of games than your dinosaur fossil known as the PlayStation Vitanic. You compare a portable that sells a miserable 3.1 million units to a portable system that doesn’t need glasses shown in full 3D and sells 7 times as much as the Vitanic? You are a fucking loser!

                          1. Aeolus Sucks Tretton's dyck!

Says the Sony cock sucker who needs to change his diapers and shut the fuck up.

                          1. yeah dont even conpair 3DS to the vita vita was a stupid worthless piece of crap that shold not have bin made whel i should not say that it would have bin cool in 2003 so yeah 3DS brings the power to the players

                        2. how dare you call yourself chucknorris and say such nonsenins vita is a worthless hunk of trash that was sony trying to keep itself from falling bheind nintendo even more then they allready were ever notuce that after nintendo reavles a new connsele or hand held that sony says that ther makeing one

                        3. Sub-HD graphics, multi-touch doesn’t add much for handheld/console gaming, the rear touch-pad is to make up for a lack of trigger buttons, OLED screen…point, so does the 3DS with the CirclePad Pro, more apps? Funny, I buy my handhelds/consoles for games.

So the VITA is a PSP with an extra camera, more power, and an extra analog stick with a screen that’s not HD

The 3DS is a dedicated gaming handheld with more and better games

                          See, what I did there?

                      1. Well considering that is the FIRST time he has ever been considered defending me, I doubt he is kissing my ass.

You sir are a disgrace to the gaming community.

          1. LOL…Good one…actually those two can’t even make a profit (PS3 lost more than what it currently earns) for Sony!!!

                1. I don’t see why you would be, that’s actually stupid of you to say.

The moment Sega went bankrupt, by default, that killed any future sales the Dreamcast would be seeing, Sony is nowhere close to Sega’s situation and has no plans to kill support for the handheld. The device itself is already past 3 million units sold, and it probably won’t take much for it to beat the Dreamcast at some point in the future.

        1. I don’t like this if true. Too much money would have been spent on this feature. I don’t normally care about graphics, but I would prefer a bump in power over this.

                1. ^this. read what it said people. “with the use of SPECIAL GLASSES” meaning that the screen itself doesn’t produce a 3ds or 3d tv type of 3d, but more along the lines of oldschool red and blue 3d, which is still pretty good for gaming, albeit not as good as stereoscopic, but still pretty good.

                    1. it’s still “full 3d” just not stereoscopic. by full 3d they mean the entire game/movie is playable/veiwable in 3d. rather than movie in the 80s and 90s where there would only be sections to the movies that were in 3d.

                  1. oh red and blue i haven’t even thought about that.. been so fixed on shutter technology (btb red and blue is also considered stereoscopic) judging the probably limited frequency of the pads display shutter technology may not even be possible… you’d effectively reduce the frequency to 30 which means each eye goes “dark” for 33ms.. this could be uncomfortable, i never tried it
you’re right red and blue is not as good quality as shutter and of course auto stereoscopic but it’s still a nice feature
it cuts resolution in half however since both images have to be interwoven, this may also be a problem on a screen that small

                    1. well, on the topic of 3d on a small screen, the 3ds is pretty good with 3d lol. and i’ve tried 3d like this on an ipad and it was fine. and with 3d like this (red and blue) it doesn’t take near the performance hit that stereoscopic would on a system. with this, all they are doing is replicating the important things that need to be emphasized in 3d, and copying them with only red and blue, while with stereoscopic its as if they are running 2 copies of the game at the same time.

                      1. red and blue IS stereoscopic
maybe you mean auto stereoscopic like the 3ds?
                        anyway
all techniques require pretty much the same processing power at a given viewable resolution and framerate since 2 perspectives have to be rendered
with color coded 3D they pictures are interwoven which halves resolution but leaves fps where it is
shutter shows the images one after another which halves fps
now if you compare the 2 you either need twice the resolution for color coded or twice the framerate for shutter to receive the same result.. then both techniques will require the same amount of resources

most TV sets nowadays already support shutter 3D but in order to view 3D on both the TV set and the gamepad at the same time you’d have to use color coded 3D (or the more expensive polarized 3D which is of course out of the question) which means you’ll have to play with half the resolution on both screens
seems a bit counter productive to me, especially since most console games are made to work best at a certain resolution, but we’ll see how it turns out

          1. 3D functionality is a matter of software not hardware
if the screen manages 60Hz then 3D at 30Hz is no issue if it’s using the right software.. the hardware to support it is there and the wii-u itself is already capable of rendering 3D (in truth any GPU is.. it’s again just a matter of software) .. sending that 3D image to the controller (same as sending a non stereoscopic image) and hooking shutter glasses up to the controller itself shouldn’t be a very expensive feature

            1. correction: it may be 3D at 60Hz but with half the resolution (i.e. colored glasses) which actually seems more likely than shutter technology.. also eliminated the need to hook up shutter glasses to the pad

        2. AWESOME! Hopefully we will get a confirmation soon for Black Ops 2 3D on Wii U as well. They already announced 3D support in general but sometimes, as we know, not all features of games made it to the new hardware

        3. Sounds interesting, couldn’t care less if the gamepad was 3D, but I might just pick up AC3 for Wii U come xmas …

        4. Imagine Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate :

          In 3D on the 3DS
Not in 3D on the Wii U ..

Impossible. All will be 3D. TV-Gamepad and 3DS

            1. Nope seeing as it comes from a reliable source either a slip up in his statement OR its true. Also it could be classic red blue glasses or the new stereoscopic glasses there is a difference.

        5. i dont really care about the 3d, but man am i excited to get this game on the wii u now. i started renting it today, and god is it good.

        6. Assassins creed 3D isn’t that good. Played both revelations and so far 3 in 3D. Not anything to write home about.

        7. hi there yeah 23 million 3ds sold or 23,000,000 3ds units sold i have a sony 3d 32 inch 3d smart tv with internet and apps

        8. Iwata confirmed this awhile ago, but the use of 3D on the Wii U is hindered by the use of special glasses. For this reason, Nintendo has been purposely low-key about the usage of stereoscopic 3D on the Wii U.

I, for one, concur with Iwata’s earlier statement. Home consoles are not yet ready for the transition into full 3D like portable systems such as the Nintendo 3DS are. There isn’t a good adoption rate for 3D TV sets yet, and the rate won’t increase to that of what Hd TVs are until about another 5-7 years to be completely honest.

Personally, I have a huge distaste towards anything claiming it is 3D capable but requires the usage of special eyewear. Maybe it’s because the Nintendo 3DS has spoiled me, but I just simply can’t enjoy 3D anymore unless it is autostereoscopic.

Nothing against Ubisoft or ACIII, as ACIII is still one of the launch titles that I’m most looking forward to playing on the Wii U. :)

          1. All consoles and tv needs glasses for 3d i remember sony hyping the ps3 whit and the only thing we got was a tv whit glases on the wii u it will be same thing update plus a 3d tv

            1. Nintendo making t.vs? I call bullshit right there. And the audacity to compare Wii U is blasphemy at the highest level! I say good day to U….I said GOOD DAY! *dismissed*

          2. well to be fair if it does offer color coded 3D, the hardware (i.e. the glasses) necessary to watch it won’t cost more than a dollar
even i’d check it out in that case.. shutter glasses are a tad too expensive for my taste tho.. and in order to watch a movie in 3D with my friends i’d have to buy a whole set of them

my TV can display 3D but i never use it because of that

        10. I thought I read somewhere the gamepad screen isn’t HD or 3D but HELLLL YEEEAAH! Now I wonder if Tekken TT 2 will be in 3D like the other console? Man if they keep this up my head’s gonna explode (with joy of course)

        11. Listen you mutha fukaz if anyone says shit about Nintendo (Infact if anyone says anything) I will swap a word in your name with pussy and dats how u win an argument scared beetchizzzz

        12. If anyone believes this then they are a damn fool. People have already opened up the gamepad to see its innards and no one has found a 3D screen. Add to this the fact that it is a stupid rumour anyway and you sir must have an IQ that is most low.

          1. I don’t think this can be considered a “rumour” since it was a Ubisoft project manager who mentioned that… however, I remember Iwata mentioned that 3D can be viewed if you have a 3D-enabled TV; however, the Ubi PM did mention that 3D is both viewable on TV and in gamepad; so if this is true, then this could be part of more “features not being discussed by Nintendo till closer to launch date”.

i don’t wanna keep my hopes up though. anyway, at the moment, can’t afford a 3D TV yet.

          2. whats the inners of a gamepad got to do with 6-0 frames a second showing 3D at 30 frames turning 60 frames into 30 for each eye ANY LCD SCREEN CAN SUPPORT THAT the inners of a gamepad WHAT DRUGS ARE YOU ON

        13. need to find out what kind bog stanard 3D yes with the old glasses 100% but what other types could it support passive/active and witch glasses will it be capable of supporting i new all along it could do 3d ANY SCREEN CAN EFFECTIVELY but i was wondering how many forms types it can actually support great news but not important news

          1. EVERY SCREEN THAT HOLDS 60 FRAMES A SECOND CAN HOLD 3D AT 30 FRAMES THATS COMMONSENSE

YOU HIGHLY DOUBT A TECHNICAL FACT OF ALMOST EVERY SINGLE LCD HD SCREEN ON EARTH LOL AT YOUR LOGIC

ITS SIMPLE SEND A 3D SIGNAL TO THE GAMEPAD SO ITS 30 FRAMES 3D NOT 60 FRAMES 2D THEN SIMPLE PUT ON ETHER STANDARD 3D GLASSES THE OLD MULTI COLOURED ONES OR THE STEP UP FROM THOSE THE IMPROVED 3D FOR STANDARD SCREENS THEN A STEP UP AGAIN TO ACTIVE AND PASSIVE NEW FORMS OF 3D GLASSES

THE ONLY THING WE DONT KNOW IS WITCH ONES GAMEPAD COULD SUPPORT ITS GOING TO BE MOST NOT ALL FORMS BUT MOST SHOULD BE SUPPORTED

AND BY THE WAY NINTENDO HAS BEEN 3D READY FROM SNES IF NOT NES

SNES SUPPORTED LEFT/RIGHT EYE 3D AS DID N64 AS DID GAMECUBE AS DID Wii

EVERY CONSOLE FROM NINTENDO SUPPORTED 3D INCLUDING WIIU AND THE GAMEPAD 3D IS JUST SIGNAL SOFTWARE TRICK SO 30 FRAMES 3D IS CLEARLY THERE AND 30 FRAMES AND 60 FRAMES 3D IS THWERE FOR TV SETS OBVIOUSLY

        14. Vita is such a bleeder for Sony that the PS3 had to give it’s blood (profits) in order for the Playstation brand to stay afloat. Vita gone by March 2013!!! ~3 mil in nearly one year is an epic disaster for a system that was suppose to trump Nintendo’s 3DS.

        15. hahaha wait what? Like, WTF?

Iwata did say that the Wii U would be 3D-ready, but this is the first I hear about the actual controller being in 3D. Or maybe it’s not the same 3D as the 3DS since that rep did mention special glasses.
