Nintendo Land And New Super Mario Bros U First Review Scores In

UK games publication Games Master has reviewed the first batch of first party titles on Wii U. The magazine awarded Nintendo Land, 86%, and said that it includes “some of the most innovative, raucous and party-fuelling fun we’ve ever had with a console.” The publication awarded New Super Mario Bros U, 82%, and said that it was “surprised” by the amount of innovation on show in its later levels, and despite being an easier franchise entry concludes that New Super Mario Bros U “bodes well for Mario’s future Wii U outings”.

    1. preorder the Wii U and you’ll get it in the bundle
i really see no reason for anyone to order the wii u basic set, what you get for just 50$/euro more is just amazing.

      1. I actually can’t get a Wii U at launch. (Medical Reasons, not mine, but someone I care about, I have to put a lot of money into it) I should get one at xmas though.

          1. Why do you make comments like these? Exactly what do you think should happen? How about I say, ‘it still pisses me off that people have to pay for food, even in a place with as much land as America. Atrocious.’ Do you suppose everything should be free? Why? What do you do for a living? How about you work 8, or 10, or 12 hours a day and do it for nothing? Saying that medical care is/was expensive would be one thing, saying it should be free is a completely different thing. Maybe Nintendo should just give the Wii U away for free to their loyal fans, they have lots of money, they shouldn’t be charging people to play, play and fun should be free for everyone…

This is just such a stupid comment. I’m not trying to make enemies, but this really takes the cake. I could tell you that the problem with most of these systems is the people(i.e. wanting something for nothing, lack of taking responsibility for one’s own health, etc), but it would be a topic too long for a GAME SITE. Labor isn’t free, and it never should be…a good worker is worth his wages.

            1. Uh. I think he’s trying to say that health care is free in most western countries today (Australia, England, loads of European countries etc). America is one of the only western countries that still has to pay for health care.

              1. Actually, if you want really good healthcare in Australia, PREPARE TO PAY! I’m just thankful Ive got private health insurance.

          2. Dragon, Medical Care shouldnt be “free”
in America. Why do you think half of our country HATES “Obmacare”? No
one wants more taxes to pay for everyone else. We in America do NOT believe in Socialism.

              1. They are horrible ideas, and this should be common sense in any country…what does the government produce? What service do they provide? NONE! They are there for only a select few tasks: National defense/coordination, and postal services. Everything else should reside at a state level. Saying that socialism is a good idea or a good thing is like saying that mugging you and taking your money is a good idea. Oh, but I mean well. I’m gonna give your money to the poor, or the sick, or -insert supposedly noble cause here-…the problem with this stems from the fact that you are stealing, and in the governments case its just legalized theft. I have no choice that taxes are taken out of my pay. And who worked for that money? You? The government? No, me. I don’t care how noble you think a cause is, stealing is wrong, and it isnt justifiable. As the law would punish you for stealing, so the government should be put in their place and not be allowed to steal from its citizens.

      2. Depends. If you live in the UK and are wanting ZombiU you are better off going with that one due to the amount of extras you get (cheaper zombiu. extra pro controller etc)

    1. Games master full breakdown-

      – “…Luigi’s Haunted Mansion, Animal Crossing Sweet Day and Mario Chase offer up some of the most innovative, raucous and party-fueling fun we’ve ever had with a console”
      – Plaza is filled with all things Nintendo
      – There’s menu music for each attraction that bleeps out in NES chimes
      – Monita, the floating computer, guides you around the park’s features
      – Spend winnings on pachinko-esque coin game
      – Win a jukebox, day/night cycle button, and more
      – Miis from your console and other consoles through the Internet
      – Attraction mode: set up a Nintendo Land party; choose a time limit and player count and then head to a points-based tournament of mini-games
      – Multiplayer games are fun, but GamesMaster says the single-player ones are sometimes forgettable
      – A few games highlight “some seemingly inherent problems”
      – Ex: Takamaru’s Ninja Challenge – “constant screen misalignment”
      – GamesMaster says GamePad/TV crossover usually works best when done in tandem
      – “As a discerning gamer, you may not find all that Nintendo Land has to offer to your liking, but should you fork out for a Wii U, you owe it to your family, to your friends and to everyone else you know, to bag a copy of this to go with it.”

      New Super Mario Bros. U

      – May look the same, but there are some “incredible tweaks”

      – Most of the innovation is saved for the final levels
      – “Without wishing to spoil anything, we were surprised, excited, and twinkly-eyed during an excellent finale. It’s almost as if Nintendo suddenly realised that they were in fact working with a Wii U, with a game-changing GamePad and everything.”
      – Hopes Nintendo will “build on this solid, if not mind-blowing, foundation.”

      – “A great excuse for families to gather round the TV, and an enticing glimpse of Mario’s HD future.”

        1. I think that may have something to do with Block assist mode, lol. I imagine it’s harder on single player. And then there is a load of Difficult modes aswell.

Wait for the bigger reviews like IGN etc..

  1. I’m excited to get my hands on these games as it is! I just hope Mario U doesn’t recycle EVERY track like the previous titles. =c Variation in music is important to me.

  2. Uh, is this the part where trolls treat this one review as gospel and pretend that 80+ is “mediocre”?

    Otherwise, well done scores.

    1. 80+ aint mediocre it’s well worth your money and great with a few problems. These games were never gunna be perfect as they have been Rushed out for launch day deadline.

The equivalent of Pilot wings resort and steel diver on 3ds- Rushed Launch titles that are good. Except the wiiu ones are better!

  3. Reblogged this on hypersonic55 and commented:
Well this is surprising. Now I’m not one to doubt Nintendo, but Nintendo Land did look a bit questionable in content with some of those specific mini games and one had to wonder how much depth the game would have, but 86% from Games Master magazine? That’s impressive. As for New Super Mario Bros. U, by this point I’ve had my fill of that series of Mario games and I want something different, but I guess 82% means its a least worth a try and it does sound better than New Super Mario Bros. 2. Anyways here’s hoping these good scores continue with other gaming critics as time moves on.

  4. I guess that’s decent.I’m surprised that nsmbu got so low of a score. That has way more innovation than nsmb2.Just saying.u.u

  5. Great to see some high scores in. Show’s that Nintendo’s first parties are well worth their purchase. Cant wait to be platformin with my baby in NSMBU. I also convinced her to watch me play ZombieU. This is gonna be a sweet 2013

      1. yeah pikmin 3 is going to be one of the best games ever to bad it was pushed back to 2013 sigh il just have to wait it’ll be worth it

  6. I was hoping these games were closer to a nine. I wonder what Zombie U review score is? I think reviewers are harder on Nintendo.

  7. Pikmin 3 and ZombiU will be the first games I’ll buy for sure.
Ninja Gaiden 3 has caught my attention a bit too after all the revelations…

      1. I don’t think it’s so bad since Mario will be the game the hardcore and casuals buy. The pikmin game in Nintendo land will open new doors for the casuals when they see pikmin 3 in stores. I want pikmin 3 to sell very well for Nintendo won’t have to wait this long for pikmin 4 :)

    1. Uh. Don’t compare it to Skyward Sword. Skyward Sword is one of the only truly perfect games I have played. Easily the best game of the last ten years. I think most places gave it a 10.

  12. I just don’t see Nintendoland being worth $60 for someone that doesn’t have anyone to play with. I hope I’m wrong but I’m going with Mario U and keep playing Kirby’s dream collection.

  13. It’s a good thing that I’ll be buying the Wii U Deluxe Set along with Nintendo Land. Even with an overall score of 86% (Thanks London!), it’s a definite must. And New Super Mario Bros. U…? It’s never a Nintendo system debut without the #1 iconic Italian plumber from Brooklyn. I’m buying that sequel as well.

  14. A nice start. I pre-ordered the premium set for the color difference and the value (all of that extra stuff for 50 bucks) with Nintendo Land as an afterthought. Now that more videos of it are surfacing I’m kind of excited to give it a go.
