Donkey Kong Country Games To Be Removed From Wii Virtual Console

Nintendo Europe has confirmed that the three Donkey Kong Country games available on the Wii Virtual Console are going to be removed from the service on November 25th. There’s currently no explanation as to why Nintendo has decided to remove these retro classics. So, if you’re desperate for your Donkey Kong fix and have yet to download them, then these are the games you need to get.

  • Donkey Kong Country
  • Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest
  • Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong’s Quest

    1. Yeah, aside from Rare still having their names attached to the original games I don’t understand why Nintendo would remove this series. They’re all classics! it’s really unfortunate. Lucky for me I already own the games.

      1. They really wouldn’t be necessary. When the 3DS eShop came out, all of the DSiWare except for a few made-for-DSi apps were available without having to remove them from the DSiShop.

      1. DKC2 is the best of the bunch in my opinion. Amazing music and tight gameplay. The levels are great. One of my favorite games of all time.

    1. That would be awesome but is it only in EU its going down or also here in the states. If not in the states then it cant really be… i guess.

      1. Already own all three games in original format, but lack the SNES to play it, so, yeah, emulation is perfectly legal for me.

  1. they are going to release them on IOS since they want to make more money and want to put the games on a superior platform

check IGN if you dont believe me

      1. is that why IGN has far more hits than this fanboy war creating website?

IGN are not biased since they have a Nintendo sony and MS team…stop being butthurt

        1. Like anyothe website, IGN is completely biased. So it really doesn’t really matter in the long run. If you enjoy something, great. Have at it. Otherwise don’t push it in people’s faces.

        2. Oh your absolutely right. It is not like the site is dedicated to Nintendo News ONLY.Not even the name tells us this. What is this website called um….My Nintendo News.Damn the name is really misleading too.

I’m being sarcastic by the way.

  2. i think we know what Retro is working on ;) why else would they hire the Uncharted artist who’s good with jungles & such

    1. imagine if they made people buy it again on the wiiU eshop since the wii eshoip is in Wii mode and a seperate entity to the U shop

      1. Well you can transfer any Wii VC games youve bought onto Wii so no that wouldnt happen, unless someone doesnt care or is an idiot.

    1. note that diddy kong racing wasn’t up for download for the wiishop as well…. which was also created by rare. if they’re trying to do the collectors then their own donkey kong came from nes would all be gone as well.

          1. Yeah pretty much. What’s sad is that I actually did have some hope that they would make a solid comeback. Unfortunately that never happened, and all we can talk about with Rare is how awesome they once *were.*

And no, I’m not some angry fan-boy or anything; I owned an Xbox 360 and played the various Rare titles for it. They all looked great and everything (even Viva Pinata), but that’s not enough to craft an enjoyable gameplay experience. Perfect Dark Zero was disappointing, Banjo-Kazooie Nuts and Bolts was even more disappointing, and Kinect Sports made me wanna play Wii Sports.

            It’s a shame.

            1. I use to own a 360 loved viva piñata but it was not enough and nut and bolts was fun for me not platforming fun but enough perfect dark zero is the rare case in which it was more fun to play the original but by now they should have know that they did something wrong we the original on xbox arcade sold more

  3. We have many options:

    Download Rom

    Download Snes emulator for wii

    Download wad files for wii

    Download Rom for R4 card

    Download emulator for R4 card

Go to jail by Ip track down.

  4. This is just in Europe, right? Sometimes Nintendo in another region will announce things that apply to everyone, so I wasn’t sure.

  5. I don’t think this had anything to do with Rare or MS. Nintendo solely own the rights to this franchise, including all characters, even the name “Donkey Kong Country” as well…(hence: Donkey Kong Country Returns for Wii). My money is on HD Re-Re-releases of the original game with completely re-drawn/re-rendered sprites or something. Wii U collection? Gets more copies sold, also sells more consoles. Rare/MS have no say in this.

  6. If they threaten to take it away in the US, I’m going to have to download them all! I played DKC an DKC 3 as a kid and loved them.

  8. It amazes me the fact to this point nobody in this page has make notice of the fact that the truth game is Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Double Trouble! and not Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong’s Quest.

  9. WHAT?!? Why in the world would they remove such classic masterpieces? Hopefully for an HD trilogy remake. Hey, who else wants a DK country HD trilogy release?

  10. Makes you wonder, is there some sort of collection game coming to the Wii U that has all of these games on it, and they don’t want it available on Virtual Console because they want more people to buy the game when it releases (then again, they never removed the Kirby games from VC when Kirby’s Dream Collection came out)? It’s just a theory. Kinda like why/when they took NES games out of every Animal Crossing game since the first game.

  11. I have 1 and 2 on the Wii, I just hope this isn’t for the U.S. cause I don’t have money for games atm. If it is for the U.S. as well, I just hope they say something before taking them out, that way I have enough time to get a points card.

    1. i email nintendo and they said they didn’t have no idea that theses games being removed even in NA but when i checked the wiishop it was removed already.
