Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime has disclosed to the Mercury News that it only takes one Wii U game sale to make the console profitable for Nintendo. We’ve already heard from GameStop that the attach rate for the Wii U is extremely healthy, at 2.4 per console sold. So it seems that Nintendo should be making a profit with its latest home console.
“The business model doesn’t change dramatically, in that as soon as we get the consumer to buy one piece of software, then that entire transaction becomes profit positive.”
“In the end, the business model is still to drive the install base of hardware, and then to drive a strong tie ratio with all of the other software and experiences for the consumer. And if we’re able to do that, then we will create significant profit for the company.”
Truer words from the President and COO of Nintendo of America! Wii salute U, Regginator!

Be careful when you download games from the e shop!! DON’T DOWNLOAD IN THE BACKGROUND. Everyone who has a Wii U knows that the OS is slow and can freeze when you return to the menu. My wii u BRICKED because it FROZE while downloading Zombiu. The download warning should also state it will brick during ANY download interruptions, not just the update. Everybody I know that has a WiiU has stated that they had to unplug it because it froze. Even Nintendo recognizes this: http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/troubleshooting.jsp
I am very concerned about this system. It had great potential and this is a HUGE issue. The OS is painfully slow and Freezing should not be acceptable!

Are you two retarded? I am giving you a heads up that you can easily brick your wii u if you download in background. Pull Nintendo’s dick out of your ass and think before you defend them.

I let zombiu and super mario bro u download in the background while I played nintendoland and miiverse, both downloaded and installed just fine with no lag on the consoles part too. o.0

Sorry for your luck, but besides te initial update, I have downloaded ALL OTHER UPDATES in te background with ZERO problems or slowdown.
It’s actually really cool that it can do that. I just cancel, let it download while I do other shit, and then come back to the download manager to install the update or eShop title.
You just got hit with some bad luck. Nintendo should be patching it soon. Some of us are Lov’in the background downloading!

Oh, and the OS is not painfully slow.
Do you actually own one?
You sound like a troll who is capitalizing on all the issues a few people had. Maybe you got struck by lightning 3 times.
Oh, and the Browser is epic fast. Unlike anything I’ve browsed on. Hook a keyboard up to this F**ker, and you will break the sound barrier.

Well on top of my premium bundle I have 3 games and a pro controller. But since I live in Australia, Nintendo doesn’t have my money yet :( never been so eager to lose $600-700

I can see the Wii U being very profitable than, I don’t know about the other Nintendo fans who pre-ordered it, but I pre-ordered 5 games with it, + 2 Pro Controllers.

Mighty Switch Force: Hyper Drive Edition plays just like the original 3DS downloadable title… only this time, it’s in full HD with better play control and more challenging puzzles to conquer. IGN had scored an 8.5 out of 10.

This is kinda funny since I was just barely able to afford the Wii U (I’m a minor) so I don’t have any extra games yet (aside from nintendoland). Although Christmas is soon, so I probably will get one.

This console is going to be huge. All the parents who are buy Wii U’s for their kids for Christmas. I suggest you let them open their presents a day early (or you can sneak and do it in the middle of the night) and do the update, that way the kids could wake up on Christmas morning and play their Wii U immediately.

The Wii U is going to be a success, even if it had a rough start. No game system is going to be perfect.
Looking forward to my Wii U by Christmas. :)
