Rich the Executive Editor at IGN has revealed that the Nintendo 3DS has surpassed sales of the Gamecube in less than two years, 2/3 of the Nintendo 64 and nearly half of Super Nintendo. Not bad going for a device that has caused plenty of heated discussions between industry analysts who proclaim that the handheld video game market is dead.

The Wii U is fast becoming my all-time favorite console though. If launch is anything to indicate that, and if Yoshi is really getting a new game in his epic platforming franchise, then we can definitely count on seeing other franchises from Nintendo Land represented on the Wii U in brilliant HD. :D

We’re gonna get Beyond Good & Evil 2, Rayman Legends, Bayonetta 2, Yoshi’s Land, Pikmin 3, and (most likely) Bioshock Infinite–all within a year or two. Not to forget that Super Mario U game that’s supposed to come out next year and that Zelda game that has still not been shown yet.
It’s a great time to be a Nintendo fan—whether you only like portables, only home consoles, or a mix of both. :D

Looking forward to Mutant Mudds Deluxe, Shantae, Mario U, Yoshi’s Land, Pikmin 3, Bayonetta 2, Rayman Legends, Beyond Good & Evil 2, and Bioshock Infinite. :3
I’ve basically gone to solely downloading games off of the Nintendo eShop now. Even though I got Nintendo Land for free, I even put down $59.99 for it on the eShop. XD
It’s great to know that indie developers and third-parties can set their own prices on their games. Nintendo is nowhere near as harsh on developers as they are on the Nintendo 3DS’ Nintendo eShop on the Wii U. I’m hoping we get GameCube and Dreamcast classics remastered in 1080p HD for the Wii U’s eShop.

I can see Nintendo’s HD games like Zelda and Mario 3d and Smash bros , having Graphics that rival PS4 and 720. In the same way Resident evil revelations and Kid icarus uprising givew the PS vita run for its money graphically…

For downloading games, I have been using the systems SSD to store them temporarily. I am getting the Buffalo 2TB USB HDD to use with the Wii U in late December, but I would definitely recommend a USB HDD to anyone out there planning on downloading games like ACIII, ZU, or TTT2:WUE. It’s almost mandatory for those games because of how large they are.
Downloading times are a bit hard to track—it really matters on whether you are downloading multiple games at the same time, what games you are playing while the system is on (as downloads happen in the background), Internet speed, and size of the download itself. That said, it takes surprisingly long to download relatively small games—it’s unrealistic to sit through a download without playing a game while you are waiting, in other words. Games like Sonic & All-Stars Racing (an almost 4GB download) can take up to 5-7 hours on my Wii U (mind you, this is with games or applications running). For Tekken (almost 16GB), as an example, that would take me a day or two in download time, by comparison.
I would think this time would decrease if you only have the Wii U Menu open while accessing Download Management.
Something great about Download Management on the Wii U is that it allows users to track up to 64 downloads (yes, you are reading that right, you can have 64 things queued up for download at a time) at a time—no matter what game or application is running, you can access this from the HOME Menu. Despite the length it takes to download games, the downloads can happen in the background while playing Wii U games—haven’t tested whether or not it works while playing games on the separate Wii OS available from the Wii U Menu because the console fundamentally reboots to access the Wii Menu functionality in the first place. Having these downloads continue while playing games can cause lag, so Nintendo has made the Wii U capable of pausing downloads automatically when games demand more RAM to run.
I haven’t experienced any problems with games like Nintendo Land while downloading. Installing software requires you to go into Download Management, click on a finished download, and wait for it to Install. The installation times for the software I have on my Wii U have been posted below.
Here are some download sizes of the games that I have right now. In total, the Wii U Deluxe should have about 25GB of free space after the system update is installed:
– Nintendo Land: About 3GB. Took about 30 mins to install.
– New Super Mario Bros. U: About 2GB. Took about 15 mins to install.
– Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed: About 4GB. Took about 45 mins to install.
– Little Inferno: Really small. Less than half a GB. Took less than 3 minutes to install.
– Mighty Switch Force: Can’t recall on this one very much, but I know it was in the 1GB range. Took less than 10 mins to install.
– Nano Assault Neo: Surprisingly small. Less than a GB. Took less than 10 mins.
– Trine 2: Director’s Cut: Huge for a indie game. I would say it was even larger than NSMBU in some regards, but the necessary update for Miiverse to run on NSMBU (the Ver 1.1.0 update) made NSMBU a larger file most certainly. In other words, about 2GBs. It took me about 15 mins to finish the install.
It seems that installation increments move at about 15 mins intervals each added GB. It is perhaps an added hour when downloading games (in other words, a game of 25GB would take 25 Hours for my system to download while playing games on it most likely). Anything that is a GB or less seems to take about anywhere from 5-10 mins (of course, when any download is just KB or MB instead of GB, it makes the whole process much quicker for installation). THANKFULLY, Nintendo has FINALLY gotten rid of Blocks—they now use a color-coded and labeled KB, MB, GB storage marker that makes life itself easier for all of us.
Lastly, I haven’t experienced any lagging issues whatsoever while having multiple games download in the background.

I will be buying MOST of my retail games physically , but I can definitely see myself the odd game digitally if needs be. And obviously taking advantage of the deluxe digital promotion and downloading all of the wiiu’s awesome E-shop games like trine 2 , Nano assault , Mighty switch force , etc etc.

Not sure if net speed does decrease or increase download times, honestly. It may be something associated with it (how much MB download per second, as an example, due to it being a wireless connection to an access point from my wireless router).

Nice choice freind! The wii is one of my favorite consoles. It has some of the best games I’ve played and the first time you played wii sports was litteraly a monumentus moment in your life lol. But it kinda wore a bit thin compared to the consoles I listed above.
Great to hear the 3DS is selling well. Sad to hear how poorly the GameCube sold overall. I forget that this holiday season will be the 2nd holiday season for the 3DS. This year it’s definitely a much more appealing system than it was last year.

Gamecube, Nintendo DS (lite, i, xl) gameboy, gameboy color, N64, snes, and nes are proud of the young 3DS.
The 3DS is my favourite console unless the Wii U can surpass it, I don’t know yet, it’s not out in the UK yet.
Next year is going to be great for the 3DS with games such as Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Fire Emblem: Awakening, Dragon Quest VII, Project X Zone, Bravely Default: Flying Fairy, Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney, Ace Attorney 5, Professor Layton and the Azran Legacies, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Monster Hunter 4, Time Travellers, Code of Princess, EX Troopers and whatever else Nintendo have hiding away for us plus there’s Super Smash Bros. 4 though I don’t think that will be out next year.
where’d you get the info on the Professor Layton and the Azran Legacies? and is the Miracle Mask one any good? (I’ve only played curious village and diabolical box)
