Nintendo president Reggie Fils-Aime has announced that the lengthy day-one update for Wii U should be pre-installed on new systems starting from the Spring. Fils-Aime went on to reiterate that the patch was necessary to make sure that the very best product is available to consumers.
“Nintendo developers want to make sure that the very best product is available to consumers.”
“That creates a dynamic where our developers are working on elements until the very last point possible. That’s why the system update was required on Day One – and this is quite similar to what’s happened with other consumer electronic products.”
Good thing. I am on my Wii U browser. The Wii U browser is very good!
Yeah, it really is! It’s waaay better than my mobil browser ^^
Hell, it’s better than my laptop browser.
Well.everything is better than IE XD
My Wii U turned itself off twice during that update, scariest moment of my life, I was afraid the console was going to stop working.
(Works fine though)
It really turned off? Mine just dimmed the lights.
Yeah it did, twice. I’m not sure if it was a fault in the Wii U or that I had too much plugged into the power points in my room (which is very likely). Either way, it’s over now and my Wii U is working fine :)
Lucky you. Good luck in bad luck.
Haha I know right, dodged a bullet.
I dont get why it wasnt just preinstalled anyway? -.-
I really think it was for them not to release miiverse info to the public when they shipped consoles for review.
The consoles where made and released BEFORE they found out that the Wii Us didn’t have half of the stuff pre-installed so really its the manufactures fault
While the update took me a half hour, good to know for those who purchase the Wii U in the Spring and beyond.
@thrdragon234 Judging from Reggie’s comments, it wasn’t preinstalled because they needed us early purchasers to act as a “test” group. That way, they could work out the issues and perfect it. Therefore, once the bugs are eliminated, they can start having the update preinstalled. If update was already preinstalled, I’m guessing it would be harder to fix.
My Wii freezes twice a week, generally in the middle of a Black OPS mission (I know, not the end of te world.
Some have reported freezing in other games every once in a while. I hope Nintendo includes our alledged December Patch that is supposed to fix the issue.
This is good news for people getting the system later next year.
no they had to start making the hardware but the software was not going to be ready by that date. I cant remember the last time i purchased something and is did not have some kinda firmware/software update on the day i got it. Even my tv had a patch on day 1. you do know you could have hit cancel and it would of downloaded in the background while you played a game. Its what i did
My iPod has massive updates all the time. Apple isn’t happy until their updates render past hardware unusable and obsolete.
In addition, an iPod update can range from 500mb and higher most of the time!
it only took me about an hour.
That’s good. I wonder if this means new Wii U models will be released next Spring with larger memory capacities. lol Bet everyone will be pissed if they do that. >.<
XD That would be hilarious but, thankfully, I will be getting the new console next year so this is good news for me

You are not kidding me. The Wii U web browser is incredibly F-A-S-T!!!!!! I love it already!!!!
That’s good. I haven’t got my Wii U, yet. I don’t mind if I get it before next Spring and have to wait when installing the update, but I am glad they are doing this.

Well, it looks like the Wii U will already have this update by the time I buy one. I think it’s good to wait a while before buying a new console. Gives Nintendo time to fix any bugs and stuff there might be.
