  1. Nice, i am considering getting this, although i probably should get and play Origins first, its just that this was so much fun to play when i first tried the Wii U at Nintendo World Store NYC.

      1. That’s like asking if you can skip Mario galaxy and just play 2. Origins is a really good game I’m excited for this one.

        1. I’m asking if it would matter story wise. If it doesn’t, I could just get Legends and possibly Origins later when there’s a drought of good Wii U games.

            1. There’s always going to be a period of time between game releases, no matter what console it is. Right now all I have is Nintendo Land till February.

              1. In reply to Andrew’s comment, no, you don’t need to play or even know about the existence of Super Mario Galaxy in order to play Super Mario Galaxy 2. SMG2 essentially goes over EVERYTHING in the first world while introducing its new concepts, and it wouldn’t be hard for any new players to grasp, that’s for sure.

Of course, players would still miss out on some of the “later” events that happen in the game.

Rayman is in a different boat, however.

Rayman Origins and Legends are NOT related by plot. Rayman Legends has an entirely different plot that is nowhere near based on Origins. I think it would be best for you to skip Origins altogether and instead pick-up another Wii U game to hold you off until then (both New Super Mario Bros. U and Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed are fantastic choices).

I’m not sure if you guys are into Wii U Indie Games, but there’s also Trine 2: Director’s Cut, Mighty Switch Force! Hyper Drive Edition, and Nano Assault Neo on the Nintendo eShop.

Aside from that, we have a vast number of titles that have recently come out both in retail and digital formats for the Nintendo eShop and Nintendo 3DS Retail Games this year. I just got my own Nintendo 3DS and I know my backlog of games from this generation is still full from all the wonderful Virtual Console, 3D Classics, and Nintendo eShop-exclusive goodies that came out so far. Not to mention the fact that I need to play catch up with my Nintendo 3DS Retail Games. :3

          1. No there isn’t much story to those games like a Mario game but they are very fun and IMO opinion origins was better than all of the nsmb games.

            1. That would be your opinion.

To me, Origins had some really bad pacing issues with its world design. In one level, it would be the easiest stretch to complete, just to have the next one take you hours to finish (and by that I mean the time trials, getting the most amount of Lums you can get your hands on, etc.).

Once again, in my opinion, the New Super Mario Bros. series has continually had great pacing in terms of its world design that makes it easy to jump in-and-out of. There is no way I could ever imagine playing another game after reaching the mid-way point with Origins and trying to comeback to play the game again a few months later. The game is built for you to spend all the time you can in one sitting to finish the game—and playing other games or taking a short hiatus from it will make it very difficult to return back to.

Legends looks much easier to jump into, offering a design that is much akin to New Super Mario Bros., where you don’t need to worry about taking a short break to play another game, etc. Compared to Rayman Origins, I think Legends will have a much more balanced difficulty, which I look forward to, personally, because Origins was a pill to 100% complete for me, and I had to hold off on starting The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword when it first came out because I was “in the zone.” :l

  2. I don’t understand the appeal of Rayman. I’ve never played any Rayman game because I always thought the characters looked stupid.

    1. I’ve never played a Rayman game before until I played Origins with a friend and I got to say, that game kicks all of the New Super Mario Bros. games’ butt put together and I freaking love Mario.

      1. I’m right there with AC. Never played a Rayman game, thought they were making too many Rabbids games, finally chanced it with Origins and out of the 40 plus Wii games I own, it’s easily top 5.

  4. Am I the only person who keeps coming back to Twitter about a dozen times every night just to see if there’s any more My Nintendo News? I come back so often that I sometimes feel dizzy, and there’s never anything new all night long. I guess news only happens during the daytime hours.
