Miyamoto Says It’s Very Likely He Will Return To GCN And GBA Link Ideas With Wii U

Legendary designer Shigeru Miyamoto has revealed in the latest edition of Games Master magazine that he thinks it’s very likely that he will eventually return to those unrealised Gamecube and Gameboy Advance link ideas with the Wii U. Here’s what Miyamoto had to say.

“I think it is very likely. I cannot tell specifically what ideas I used to have at the time which might be realized this time around. But as you might recall, at one of the E3 shows several years ago we showcased a game of Pac-Man Versus, which was a really interesting game. Unfortunately however it was rather hard for everyone to own four GBAs at the same time.”

“But at that time still it was not very easy or accepted. [Now, with Wii U], it’s not just creators outside the company are finding fascinating possibilities to be able to realize a game dream come true.”

      1. The GCN had one, where you were able to play GBA games on it, i would love playing Resident Evil Revelation on my tv with the Classic Pro Controller, and the GamePad for games that utilized the second screen. That would be awesome.

      1. The gamepad would be perfect for a Wrestling type steel chair weapon and using it as a rope to suphocate people on say Hitman or Metal gear.

  1. Capcom are getting there first Miyamoto San. 3 3DS can be connected to the wiiu to play 4 Player Local Monster Hunter Ultimate and save files can be transfered between each console.

Miyamoto will find it hard to beat that…

    1. he just said that it’s kind of hard for everyone present to own a handheld

i think he’s talking about new game concepts he thought of back when they came up with the GBA NGC connection that will now be implemented with the gamepad in mind.. not a bunch of people with handhelds

        1. true but that didn’t require a whole lot of innovation
connecting 4 handhelds to a single console is old news

i’m sure miyamoto can come up with something fresh that will not only rival 4 handheld support but excel it since everyone will be able to use it, not just a select few

  2. It’s about god fucking time they release a 3D Super Mario (insert some word here) game where you can play co-op! And with one person screen being the Gamepad while the other one uses the TV…. Yep, a man can dream, right?

    1. Donkey Kong beating the shit out of bowser on the Tv, while Mario’s beating bowser Jr. And the other koopalings on the gamepad. Its about time they got together for something other than kart racing or Tennis

  3. There is already one Pacman VS OUT…. NAMCO MUSEUM (DS) has the Pacman game that you can play with up to 4 people, which is funny indeed. I think that gameplay idea on Wii U with 5 players would be amazing! (with other games too)

      1. I think he means they basically revisit good ideas, that ended badly, such as motion control, 3D display, and cross connectivity.

      1. Thats what this article is basically saying, to have that similar GBA-GC connectivity but with the 3DS. Although im guessing that maybe they’ll use the gamepad as one of them.

  4. HD Cell shaded link??? FUCK YES! Hope its darker this time around if it is cell shaded. Like a mash-up of WW and the MM concept art, I’d buy it twice.

    1. I loved Wind Waker and Skyward Sword Art Style but I think what Zelda need this time is a more hardcore appeal make it the best Zelda, a map 4 times bigger than Wind Waker, more liberty, more side quest missions, a sailing system like the one in WW would be cool but not as your primary form of transport, Epona, child and adult Link, more weapons, voice acting and go with the Wii U tech demo art style THAT would be AWESOME

      1. This.

Imagine Zelda in the style of Skyrim; not just because it’s uber realistic and gritty, but because it hasn’t been done before. It would be like the Robin Hood movie reboot with Russell Crow, or like Braveheart; could look like that, or have that sort of rustic medieval feel. Lots of medieval type towns, weaponry, magic and sorcery; I’d buy a Wii U just for that.

Either that, or go back to 2d like A Link To The Past, but in HD (like Rayman Legends did, but obviously with a top-down isometric view not a side view).

Failing those, I’d go for an HD cell-shadeded one with sailing AND horse travel, huge map, and the same non-linear freedom.

        Make it happen, Nintendo!
