The creator of Earthbound, Shigesato Itoi, has revealed that some sort of Earthbound return is on the way. Itoi tried to make it perfectly clear that it is not Earthbound 4 which many were hoping. Speculation suggests that the team might be trying to get the Earthbound series on the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console. Here’s a number of Tweets that Itoi shared on Twitter.
“Since I’m allowed to drop it on you all now, I’ll just go ahead and say it. The “Mother re-release” I’d mentioned a bit before, we’re making progress on that.”
“It’s not 4! We’re trying to get Mother working again right now. I still can’t mention any details, but I have to make clear that this isn’t ‘4’!”

Even if a remake is in the works, it will never come to America.
Us Mother fans have been burned too many times.
It never came to America because of the music choice among some other reasons. If a remake is made with localization in mind, they would avoid including things that would negate the possibility of a localization so that we could play it too.
And if not, import a Japanese 3DS and download the game from the eShop.
Oh, those US fans who got EarthBound?

Cool, Itoi. We should be honored that he is considering something like this. I am also cool with no Mother 4, since that’d be hard to create something along those lines.

They both have two screens, and the first tho Mothers were for console, so I’d say there’s as big a probability for Wii U as for 3DS.

I’m on board for a Mother Collection as a 3DS game. $40 for a portable compilation of three cult classic RPGs would be a steal!
I’m realy hoping with everything I’ve got that they release it in The USA at the very least. Fans have been screwed over too many times now….I don’t think I can handle another one.

I seriously hope this means that EB2/ mother 3 gets released to wiiU in NA finally and hopefully all three on 3DS. I don’t care that I’ve owned the original big box of EB since it came out, I bought it the day it released on WiiU and I will EB2 and will do so again for a 3DS copy.
I’m so sick of being stuck playing a rom of EB2/Mother 3 with a fan translation that is buggy beyond belief.
