Nintendo May Allow Players To Create And Share Stages In Future Mario Games

wii_u_gamepad_new_super_mario_bros_uTo date, there are no Mario games that allow players to completely create levels and share them with others. However, Nintendo is, in fact, considering allowing users to create their own Mario levels in future titles.

New Super Mario Bros. U Director Masataka Takemoto says there is a possibility that players will be able to create their own levels in future Mario games, but only if there is a way to make the feature unique and attractive to beginners and core Mario fans alike.

“I think the Coin Edit feature in Coin Battle is a step closer to that. There is a possibility of this happening in the future, but there’s no use just blindly making that feature available. We would need to carefully think about how to make such a system work. The important thing is that it has to be something that is uniquely Nintendo. Where a beginner can easily make something and have a good time, and simultaneously, someone who is really into Mario can delve into it deeper and make something more complex. So that is a challenge we will need to tackle in the future.”

  1. DO IT! DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT! Nintendo, please log onto YouTube and watch the various Super Mario World hacks there are some REAL creative ones out there, and some hard as fuck ones, so we’re plenty capable of designing our own levels

  2. That would be awesome. Mario’s whole structure is based on level design. Thats why when people ever say “oh Mario is dumb, and rehash, its just jumping over and over@. They sound fucking retarded, because the game only needs new and interesting level design to be different, same with Zelda.

    1. LBP is overrated. I like how it like make your own levels, and some people are really creative with that. But it’s not that amazing to play, it relies on creativity. Plus unless you have the patience, making a level is just annoying and takes forever, and all the properties that are available, moving parts, physics and mechanics ect can be a little overwhelming, and nost people kinda give up, or just get it wrong xD
I imagine making a Mario level would be much simpler, seeing as we’ve played them so much, and placing objects would just be more simpler, there not really any variables with Mario objects, they do what they do.

      1. I only play LBP so Steven Fry can caress my earhole.
I’m to stupid to make any levels and I don’t see the point in learning how to.
On a side note the super mario land remake in it is pretty good.

      2. How the FUCK is LBP overrated? Do you even know what that word means or are you that stupid?

Perhaps you’re just talentless and simply can’t design a level. I’ve yet to have had a problem with the editor in any of those games. There are tutorials you can watch over and over again, or do you lack a lengthy attention span and just want to bitch for the sake of bitching like your dumbass always does?

Jesus Christ, Dragon is literally a hipster FAGGOT.

        1. jesus christ! aeolus is an opinionated asshole still! seriously, WHO CARES. if he doesn’t like it, fine. at least he’s not on a blog purely about sony trashing it. which reminds me, why do you still lurk around here?

    1. Thats possible.
They could literally kill off the New series if they added it though, which means they’d have to come up with a whole new area, theme, enemies ect for the next 2D game.

  3. “To date, there are no Mario games that allow players to completely create levels and share them with others.”
You could create and share your own levels in Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis.
Maybe they will make something alike for the NSMB series?

    1. Thats true. I hope they bring it back in the new ones though, make it better

Maybe we’ll be able to share stages from WiiU to 3DS

  5. Yes just make a game where you create your own mario game, and the bosses too…or atleast make them harder…then I’ll buy it for sure.
Just make the 3D mario games epic :)

  6. The only thing they can do for the beginner and core audience is if nintendo creates the *randomize button.* Which randomly creates a level in mere seconds.

  8. This would be cool for the simple reason that you don’t need to hack your Wii with Riivolution to get Reggie! or hack SMW with Lunar Magic. Or something else.

  10. Make it online and allow for it to be randomized to where you can play through the entire game in only user created levels(aside from boss levels), allow for different difficulty levels to be separated if need be. Flag the troll levels(which im sure is why this isn’t a thing yet, it would be hard to sift through the shit) in miiverse. Having a touchscreen should make the creation fairly accessible, but should also allow for deeper levels of creativity. Seriously, trolling could easily kill this. It could be a disaster. Just imaging it gives me chills.

  11. Why not patch NSMBU? Its good they are planning it, but they could implemented it earlier if they really wanted to. Plus, according to them they’re not making any games in the New series this gen (I doubt they’ll keep to this, but they’ll wait at least three years)

  12. Please Nintendo do it! It really is time for an official level editor though, Lunar Magic isn’t enough. Although I do love me some Super Mario World hacks.
