A boy from Talladega, Ala., received a Nintendo 3DS XL box for Christmas. Instead of containing the actual handheld, the box was full of rocks wrapped in tissue paper.
The box was purchased from a local Walmart, and after explaining to the retailer what had happened, the boy’s mother was able to receive an actual Nintendo 3DS XL for her son.
Apparently, scams like this happen because consumers purchase merchandise from Walmart and then return it to the store with the items missing.
Don’t they even check the box??
Because who opens a new 3DS they bought from Walmart for their child? Do you go into the store open milk to make sure its ok?
Even the Walmart employees shouldn’t check the box, how would they even know if they’re rocks in it anyway? When they get in a shipment, they don’t have time to weigh every package when loading onto shelves.

But they probably did a reasonable job resealing it, so it appeared to have been unopened. If they saw the seal was broken then they would have checked. But I think they only take returns on unopened items (electronics), so the person that returned it did a good job resealing it.
It wasn’t a shipment, It was a return. Walmart should have checked it, Its the basics.

A similar situation happened to my cousin about 15 years ago. He bought a Nintendo 64 and the box seemed heavy enough for one to think the console was in the box. But when he finally checked the box (which was when he got home) he found nothing but trash and empty glass beer bottles in the box. The difference between my cousin’s incedent and this kid is, my cousin was trying to buy from a street vendor, not a Walmart.

Part of Wal-Mart’s electronics return policy is that EVERY device like that be checked, pulled out of the box, serial number cross checked with the receipt and the box, and then sent off to claims. Those devices DON’T return to the shelves. So if this truly did get returned and put back on the shelf someone is absolutely IDIOTIC.
The economy is collapsing the retail market is collapsing and that’s the last real thing people spend money on besides food. Walmart and other retail lose billions from shoplifters and scammers. Its a vicious cycle and the end is near cause there is no virtually no economic growth in any area of the world economy.

They were probably packed tight together, plus they said they were wrapped in tissue paper, which probably cushioned them in together.
